Classic Hurricane Cocktail

I had my first Hurricane when I visited New Orleans in 2015 and it quickly became my favorite cocktail. So, when the hero in Broken Trust joined a pub crawl in the French Quarter, he enjoyed his first Hurricane, too.

They say it was created at Pat O’Brien’s bar on St. Peter Street and it’s served in a glass that looks like a hurricane lamp, hence the name.

Here’s a basic recipe, but you can vary the amounts according to your tastes.

Hurricane 

2 oz light rum
2 oz dark rum
2 oz passion fruit juice
1 oz orange juice
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1 tbsp simple syrup
1 tbsp grenadine

Shake all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a hurricane glass. Garnish with a cherry and an orange slice.
