Tasty Tuesday - Lasagna

I love cooking almost as much as I love books and gaming. One of my claims to cooking fame is my lasagna, a family recipe handed down from my mom, tweaked by my dad, and now tweaked by me. It's such a huge hit that I made it for my partner's family get-together here at our place Christmas of 2011. The recipe makes a pretty good-sized dish (9x11) and it never, ever lasts very long at our house.

Myc's Lasagna

Ingredients:
1 16oz box of lasagna noodles
1.5 lbs of ground beef
1 15oz container of ricotta cheese
1 16oz container of cottage cheese
1 8oz package of mozzarella cheese
1 6oz can of tomato paste (preferably Italian)
1 14.5oz can of stewed tomatoes (Italian seasoned)
1 pkg of provolone cheese slices
oregano
garlic salt
minced onion

Directions:
Brown and drain meat. Add tomatoes, tomato paste. Do NOT drain tomatoes. Add about half a cup of water if needed, just until the mixture is slightly thin. Simmer mixture until tomatoes are tender. Season as desired with oregano, garlic salt, and minced onion. Boil lasagna noodles until tender. Let cool on a plate. Build the lasagna in layers, using the following order in a 9 x 13-inch glass or metal baking pan:

Layer 1:
4 cooled noodles, meat mixture, thin layer of ricotta cheese.

Layer 2:
4 cooled noodles, meat mixture, thin layer of cottage cheese.

Layer 3:
4 cooled noodles, meat mixture, sprinkled shredded mozz. cheese.

Layer 4:
4 cooled noodles, sprinkled mozz. cheese, 8 slices of provolone covering as much of the top as possible.

Bake for 30-45 mins (or until provolone is browning but not burnt on edges) at 400 degrees.

*If you run out of noodles, combine Layers 3 and 4.

Saturday Book Diver Interviews Nick from Soul Debt: Paid in Full

Hello and welcome to the Saturday Book Diver! Every weekend I dive into fictional worlds to bring you interviews with a variety of sexy and intriguing characters.

Today I’m talking to Nick from Soul Debt: Paid in Full. At the moment I’m standing outside the book shop where he works. Nick requested that I meet him after hours, so it’s pretty dark right now.

I’ve been told that Nick has recently made a deal that has changed his entire life and he did it for love.

Glancing through the book shop window, I notice movement. It’s the shadow of what appears to be a man, except he has. . .I can’t say I was expecting this.

The door opens and I find myself staring into the face of a very unusual man. Nick grins and the dimple deepens in his cheek. His black hair flops over his brow and his eyes sparkle, but there’s something different about him. Maybe I imagined him taller? He’s got to be about six feet tall. Still, I’m not sure. Ah yes, the horns! The voice is the same as the person I made contact with, however. It’s Nick. He invites me in and guides me through the dark shop to the cafe area where a dim lamp rests on a table.

I make eye contact with Nick and try not to stare at his horns. With all the characters I’ve met, very little surprises me, but every now and then I find someone like Nick.

SBD: Thank you for meeting with me, Nick. I’d like readers to get to know you with a few basics. Where are you from? How long have you been working here at the book store and does your unusual appearance cause any issues with the customers?

Nick:
I’m from Kent, Ohio. Born and raised there. Went to good old KSU for college. I liked hanging out at the library and the ease of getting around Kent. Everything is more or less within walking distance. I stay fit and don’t leave a carbon footprint. I started at the bookstore about four years ago. It’s not exciting, but it’s something to do that keeps me around bookswhich I loveand lets me play with figureswhat I’m good at. I do the books for the bookstore. Sounds silly when I say it that way, but it’s true. As for my appearance, I can lay low in the backroom running the numbers or I can just wear a hat. If I keep it low enough, the hat covers the horns nicely. I’m not much of a hat guy, but I don’t like people staring at me.

[Now that I know how he feels, I try not to look at his horns. Nick has a friendly personality and I find myself at ease around him.]

SBD: What about your personal life? Do you have someone special?

Nick: There is this one guyAntonio. Let’s just say the guy puts the David to shame. He’s like a living statue, all perfect muscle and GQ styled. The opposite of me. He’s got class where I just sort of hang out. He works with me here at the bookstore. Makes for some strange glances and lots of moments where I need to duck behind the shelves or embarrass myself. He knows I exist and that I like him. I’m shy when feelings are involved. How he feels about me is still up in the air, but that’s okay. I don’t expect miracles.

[I can’t imagine Antonio not liking Nick.]

SBD: It sounds to me like you’re very much in love. I’d like to talk about the deal. Exactly what kind of deal did you make?

Nick:
I am in love with him. Silly, but true. And you asked me about the deal. Yeah. That’s another embarrassing thing. Okay, I’m not one for one-nighters. I’m not big on casual. Why? You just never know. But this guy. Holy crap. Hot, tall, fiery eyes... and he knew my neighbors, the twins. Adam and Alex run with a rough crowd, but they’re nice guys. They sort of set me up. Anyway, I didn’t know at the time the guy was the Devil. I mean THE Devil. Anyway, in return for some wango-tango-ing against the wall, I made a deal to get a boyfriend. Not the brightest move, but I did it. In return, I got these nifty horns. Yeah, bad Nicky. Bad.

SBD:
Now that you’ve made the deal, how do you feel about it? Would you recommend this kind of arrangement to others?

Nick:  Depends. Part of me is happy. Obviously the part that got to have a good time. He appreciates the attention. But part of me wishes I’d have left well enough alone. I have horns. Horns! People look at me like I’m a freak. It’s not fun. But if I end up with Antonio for more than a couple of rolls in the hay yeah, I really like him a lot and don’t want to be dumped because of a stupid dealthen it will be worth it.

SBD: What’s Antonio’s strongest quality?

Nick: He’s smart and funny. Okay, that’s two, but he is. He pays attention to me when just about everyone else ignores me and he listens when I’ve got issues. You don’t find that oftena good listener who is hot on the inside and out.

SBD: I can’t argue with that. I’m just about out of time here. Unfortunately the Book Diver magic doesn’t last long. Before I go, is there anything you’d like to add?

Nick:
Aw. I thought it lasted forever. Grin. What would I like to add? Hmm. If you’re going to do something, do it for love. And if you’re going to do it, do it because you want to, not because you had to due to a deal. If I’d have just worked up the nerve to tell Antonio how I felt, I might not have these stupid horns. Then again, I might not have him. Who knows? But that’s what I wanted to add.

SBD: That’s good advice. Would you give us your favorite except from Soul Debt: Paid in Full?

Nick: This is my favorite part. When I first got the nerve, so to speak, to do more than talk to Antonio.

“Hi Nicky.”

I didn’t have to turn around to know who spoke. “Antonio.”

“Thought I’d run over to McIntosh’s t get some lunch, you game?” He folded his arms, bringing attention to the corded muscle. “You’ll have to lose the hat. They’ve got that dress code in place.”

I touched the brim of the hat. When I looked at my horns during my break, they’d grown. Each little horn stood an inch tall. Not much, but definitely visible through my hair.

“I’m not hungry.” I pulled the hat down a little lower. “Thanks anyway.”

“Are you trying to avoid me?” He touched my hand. “Nicky?”

“No.”

“Feels like it. We do lunch every Thursday. Want to go somewhere else?”

“No.” Saying I had devil horns growing out of my head wasn’t going to work as an answer either.

Antonio crowded me against the brick wall of the building. He flattened his hands on either side of my head. Instead of the sparkle in his eyes, something else sizzled. I shivered. I’m a good submissive and I definitely got dominant vibes from him.
“I’ve waited a long time. I like you, Nicky. I’m not going to let you slip away again.” He lowered his head, his mouth brushing over mine. I expected something hard and possessive to match the predatory look in his eyes. I relaxed in his embrace and opened to him.

His whiskers brushed my lips and his tongue swiped against mine. Heaven. Being in his arms felt like pure bliss. He curled one arm around my waist and held me tight to his groin. His cock, jutted out at me, despite the layers of clothing between us.

Antonio swallowed my groan and anchored one leg between mine. I rode his thigh and clutched his arms. I didn’t want the moment to end.

He broke the kiss and stared down at me. I never noticed the amber flecks in his eyes before that moment or the beautiful pink streaked across his cheeks.

“That,” he puffed, “is to remind you what I want to do later.”

“Yeah.” I didn’t have a better response. Antonio bobbed his leg between mine. I rode his thigh and pressed my lips together to suppress the moan. Too much more of this and I’d go off like a rocket. “You’re the Devil.”

I wasn’t sure where the words had come from, but somewhere in the back of my mind I believed them.

“I can be.” He wriggled his brows and swooped in for another kiss. This time he bit my bottom lip and pinned me between his body and the wall. My balls tingled.

“Take me,” I panted. I didn’t care who watched. I needed him. Now. I moved my hands and unbuttoned his pants. He groaned when I curled my fingers around his underwear covered cock.

Wow! I think I need to find an all-night convenience store and get a cold drink after that one!

Nick walks me to the front door of the shop and lets me out. I step onto the sidewalk and glance over my shoulder. Nick is watching me through the glass, then he turns and disappears into the darkness.

I’m left wanting to know more about a man who made a deal with the devil for the love of his boyfriend. You want to know more as well? Our curiosity can be satisfied with Soul Debt: Paid in Full by Megan Slayer.

Tasty Tuesday ~ Home Made Pizza

I don't have pictures of this recipe because it tends to disappear as soon as I make it. But... this is my go-to recipe for pizza crust.

1tsp oil (I use extra virgin olive oil)
1tsp honey
1 package yeast
1 cup hot water - steaming hot water
Pinch of salt (Optional)

Mix all four in a bowl then set aside for five minutes to let the yeast bloom.

Add 2-3 cups flour (can use wheat flour)
Add the flour 3/4 cup at a time. You might not need the whole 3 cups. When it's still a little sticky, knead the dough. At this point when you're adding the flour, you can experiment and add parsley, Italian seasoning, garlic or whatever you want to the crust.

Once you've kneaded it into a ball, coat the bowl in oil, place the dough in the bowl and cover. Set aside to rise for at least one hour. Works best if you let it rise for two hours.

Once it's risen, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Press the dough into a pizza pan. I tend to use a pizza pan lined with parchment. Spear the pressed dough with a fork and bake for 15 minutes.

After prebaking, add your sauce and toppings. Here's where the possibilities are endless. We tend to make pepperoni and mushroom, but fresh onion, green peppers, banana peppers, olives can be good, too.

Bake another 10 minutes.

Add the cheese or whatever you want on top. I like fresh mozzarella. It melts more evenly and it slices gooey. Bake until the cheese melts or is the right golden brown for your taste, then slice and enjoy!

~Megan

Excerpt: Fantasy vs. Reality by Zenobia Renquist

Fantasy vs. Reality
by Zenobia Renquist

(Contemporary Erotica, MF, FF, Multiple Partners, Exhibitionism)

When the line between fantasy and reality is erased, the real fun begins.

Stacy hates benefit dinners -- fake smiles and empty conversation with people she can barely tolerate. Good thing she has her imagination to keep her occupied with sexual fantasies involving the other guests. And as the night wears on, it gets harder to tell where fantasy ends and reality begins.

Excerpt (R):
A man bumped Stacy as he turned from the buffet table. Sauce from the small plate he carried dripped onto the swell of one of Stacy’s breasts. She made a perturbed noise and backed up a step, bumping a second person and not caring.
“I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. I should have looked before I turned,” the man said. “At least it missed the dress, right?” He gave a strained chuckle and then cleared his throat. “Here. Let me uh… get… uh… Excuse me.” He leaned over and put his plate down before reaching past Stacy.
She thought he would grab a napkin so she could get the sauce before it dripped between her breasts. A surprised squeak escaped her mouth when he slipped an arm around her waist and held her close as he ducked his head. His hot mouth landed on her skin, followed by his tongue. He licked her skin, removing the sauce and sending Stacy’s libido into overdrive.
She leaned back with her hands on his shoulders prepared to push him away. Her fingers bunched into the shoulders of his suit, pulling him closer as he trailed his mouth to the edge of her dress.
He said in a husky voice, feathering his breath across her skin, “I think I got it all, but I better check to be sure. You don’t want to be sticky.”
“No, I don’t.”
His tongue returned, delving between her breasts, as he scooped one hand into her dress and edged it down. Her breasts bounced when the dress gave way and exposed her nipples to the cool air. They hardened, begging for attention as the man worked his mouth down between her breasts and then to the side. When he took one nipple into his mouth, Stacy let out in a soft moan.
He circled his tongue around the hard nub and then flicked it before sucking at it. Stacy arched into his mouth with her leg riding his hip. A hard bulge in his pants pressed against her clit, exciting her more. Shifting her hips in a slight side-to-side motion, she rubbed her pussy against him.
The hand he had around her waist moved lower, slipping into the opening of her dress so he cupped her ass. Oh, yes. She was very happy she’d bought this dress. Easy access made everything better faster.
The man released her nipple with a soft pop and met her gaze. “Maybe you should do it instead.”
Stacy blinked a few times and reality reasserted itself. The man stood with a napkin held out to her and a sheepish expression that made him appear younger than he probably was. She snatched the napkin from him and dabbed at the sauce, getting to it right before it started dripping between her breasts.
“Sorry again.” He retrieved his plate and walked away.

Tasty Tuesday - Cracker Crack by Sam Cheever

This recipe is a new favorite for me. I heard some authors talking about eating crack at a book signing and I was curious, so I went online and found a recipe. Apparently you can make this with saltines or matzo crackers. I prefer saltines. Why the name? Because it's made with crackers of course! (And it's highly addictive!)

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and line a large baking sheet (11X17) with foil and then top that with parchment paper, cut to fit. Cut 1 cup of butter into large pieces and add it to 1 cup of packed light brown sugar in a heavy pan. Melt the mixture together over medium heat until it boils, then continue to cook for 3 minutes, stirring well. It will thicken slightly. Remove from heat and add a pinch of sea salt and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Pour the mixture over the crackers right away, spreading it quickly because it will set up fast. Bake for 15 minutes (watch that the corners don't burn) Then lift the parchment to remove the crackers from the pan and cover them with 1.5 cups of chocolate chips. Let the chocolate rest on the hot crackers for 5 minutes and then spread it evenly. You can sprinkle the chocolate with 1 cup toasted, chopped almonds if you'd like. When it's completely cool break it into pieces.

Prepare to be addicted!

But it’s about to become the hardest assignment he’s ever performed.

Amanda Wright might have been unjustly judged. She might not belong in Hell at all. Problem is, Damian really kind of likes her. He especially likes enjoying her lush, willing body under the mistletoe. If he gets her the judgment she truly deserves, he’s probably going to lose her forever. But if he doesn’t help her, an innocent may spend eternity in Hell. It appears to be a lose/lose situation on all fronts. Proving once again that holidays truly are hell!

Saturday Book Diver Interviews Belle and Jarod from the Memphis Heat series by Shelby Morgen and Marteeka Karland

Hello and welcome to the Saturday Book Diver! Each weekend I dive into fictional worlds to bring you interviews with a variety of sexy and intriguing characters.

This morning I’m talking to Belle and Jarod from the Memphis Heat series. We’re meeting at a cafe in Memphis, Tennessee. Even though it’s early -- just after dawn -- the breakfast crowd has already arrived. Truckers sit at the counter. A businessman sips coffee and reads the paper at a table near the window. In a corner booth, two young women share a pastry. The aroma of coffee, bacon, eggs and maple syrup fills the air. The door closes behind me, shutting out the sound of traffic -- the hum of engines and horns blowing.

I take a seat at a corner table. A waitress approaches and takes my order.

Belle and Jarod arrived a short time later. When they step in, just about everyone checks them out. They’re both tall and gorgeous. Jarod’s the quintessential cop -- tall, dark, and handsome, with muscles that show off his animal strength. Belle, a sexy redhead with big breasts and a backside that calls out to be grabbed, struts beside him.

They approach my table and after a brief introduction, we get down to business.

SBD: As cops I know you guys have a busy schedule, so thanks for taking the time to talk to me. I’ll be brief since I know you need to get to work. First question, how long have you two been partners?

Belle: Longer than either of us have ever been married. Though, come to think of it, that’s not saying much.

Jarod: Yes, dear. Whatever you say, dear. [aside whisper] Seems like for-fucking-ever sometimes...

Belle: I heard that.

SBD: I understand not too long ago Jarod took a bullet that should have killed him. He survived, but things have been different for him. Would you tell us about it?

Jarod: I was protecting my partner, being how she's all girly and stuff. [Belle slugs Jarod on the shoulder none-too-gently -- Jarod totally ignores her].  I went down the alley so she could take the safer route. Cause, you know, I'm kind of fond of her. Anyway, to make a long story short, big ass guy comes at me, shoots me, then launches at me. When he does, he changes into something.... not quite human. It was scary as fuck. And no, I did not squeal like a girl. I shot the son of a bitch in the face.

Belle: He’s male. He’s an idiot. Goes charging down this alley, like he’s bulletproof, and what do you know, it’s a trap. Damn lucky to get out of there alive. Oh, you mean about the other thing. That’s... uh... really not common knowledge. But yeah. He got bitten. By a werewolf. Now he’s really got a nose for police work. [Cackles maniacally...]

Jarod: *rolls eyes dramatically*

[At first it was hard to decide if these two were joking, but as the interview goes on, their sense of humor is infectious. Belle and Jarod are tough, but you can’t help liking them, not to mention the attraction between them is electric. The way he looks at her and she looks at him is nearly enough to send the book diver magic into overload. Good thing we reinforced the spell after that near disaster with Jack Frost.]

SBD: I know you two are partners, but it seems like you’re more than that. If so, how do you balance personal attraction with your duty?

Belle: We’re partners. We have each other’s backs. Being werewolves and lovers, well, that’s just made things a little more complicated.

Jarod: More complicated? That's how you describe it? Fuck, Belle! We're goddamned werewolves! The lovers part isn't new. It just isn't against regs now. Makes being a werewolf not so bad. For the most part. Though PMS is really a bitch now. Literally.

SBD: [Laughs] I can’t even begin to imagine what that’s like! What do you think is your partner’s strongest quality?

Jarod: Her loyalty. Never once did Belle mention leaving me to my own devices, even after she knew what had happened. She's been by my side since the day we first met and I intend to make her want to stay there.

Bell: Sheer male stubbornness. Man doesn’t know the meaning of the word “quit.”

[Their love for each other is obvious, especially when they talk about each other’s strengths.]

SBD: What is your partner’s greatest weakness?

Belle: Same thing.

Jarod: She's a bitch. Literally.

SBD: It’s almost time for me to go and I know you guys have a long day ahead of you, so I’ll ask one last question. Would you give us one of your favorite excerpts from Memphis Heat?

Belle: How about a sneak peek at Memphis Heat 2: Streetwise -- this section features Officer Butch Cramer and his partner, Regan “Sundance” O’Mally. (We’re in there too, just not in this scene.)
"Nothing says white trash like a street brawl."

"You think we should stop them?"

Butch Cramer munched on his steak sub, not overly concerned. "Hell no. I'm betting on the redhead."

Regan winced as the shorter blonde fisted the redhead’s braid and yanked for all she was worth. "We should call the cops."

Butch arched an eyebrow at his new partner. "We are the cops."

"You know what I mean. Kiddy cops. Child Services. We've got to do something. Look at that poor little boy. He doesn't need to see this."

Butch sighed. "You ever worked with Child Services? They've still got all their clothes on. He can't be as traumatized as a Child Services visit."

Regan turned to give him that look -- the one with the brows all squished together and the lips getting thin. The one that had led to his last divorce. “You just don’t want to do the paperwork.”

“What makes you think I’d do the paperwork? That’s what rookies are for. I’ve got seniority.” She didn’t laugh, so he sighed again, and stuffed what was left of his sub back in its paper. “You’re not going to let this go, are you.” He pointed at the couple in the alley. “You know what that kid looks like to me?”

She wrenched the door open, hand on her radio. He jumped out of the car, running after her, but the rookie was already in over her head. “Six-ninety-two, requesting backup, South Main and Vance,” he keyed as he ran after his partner -- and the couple retreating down the alley. The dead end alley. Out of sight of the main street. “Fuck.” Some days he hated being right.

“Sir?” He knew Regan saw it now, too. She was trying to keep the fear out of her voice. “What -- what do they -- what does he look like to you?”

All pretense of their scuffle gone, the blonde and the redhead turned to face them now, down on all fours, gums furled back to reveal wicked sharp teeth. The little boy dropped to the asphalt between them, bawling his eyes out. Another, older wolf moved through the pack surrounding them, scooping him up to whisk him out of harm’s way.

Butch crouched low, pistol at the ready. “Bait. He looks like bait.”

Regan’s voice went stiff and formal. “Thank you, sir. It’s been a pleasure serving with you.”

“Fuck that,” Butch swore. “I’m not going down without a fight. Whatever the hell they are, they breathe. They can still die. Aim for the eyes, and don’t stop till you run out of lead.”

“Well, at least we wouldn't have to listen to any more Sundance jokes.”

Thank you! I love sneak peeks!

Jarod and Belle received a call and had to leave, but that was a fantastic excerpt that left me wanting more. If you do too, check out

Tasty Tuesday-- Imbolg Glogg

Hi! I don't drink much anymore, but this was what I served every February for one of my slightly infamous "Beach Party" events in February, back when the kids went to bed early enough to allow for a bit of mayhem. (wink, wink) By February, we were all heartily sick of cold weather, so a bit of spicy food, some Jimmy Buffet music, and the furnace cranked up to "tropical" did a great deal toward lifting the spirits. Guests were encouraged to drag out their beach wear, lounge on beach towels, and misbehave.

Glogg
Tradition: Before sipping this potent Swedish punch, toast everyone's good
health.

1 750ml bottle dry red wine
1/2 c raisins
1/2 c gin, vodka, or aquavit
1/3 c sugar
Peel from 1 orange
8 inches stick cinnamon, broken
6 whole cloves
2 cardamon pods, opened
1/4 c blanched whole almonds
In a large saucepan, stir together wine, raisins, gin, and sugar. For the spice
bag, cut a double thickness of cheesecloth into an 8-inch square. Place orange
peel, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom in the center of the cheesecloth. Bring up
the corners of the cheesecloth and tie them with a clean string. Add to the
saucepan with wine mixture. Heat the mixture to simmering, and simmer 10
minutes. Do not allow to boil. Remove and discard the spice bag.

Add the almonds at the last minute before serving this dish warm. Makes 8 (1/2
cup) servings.

Hint from Lena-- Warm up your mugs, wine glasses, or punch mugs first with warm
water. Keep them warm by placing them on a heating pad and cover with a towel
until you need them. This ensures your delicate holiday service won't shatter.

I personally sprinkle a couple of almonds in each mug, then dip the glogg into
the mug. That way every guest gets a bit of the nuts.

You may also heat and serve this in the crock pot. Much more convenient. Just
remove the spice bag and stir in the almonds before serving.

Drink up, then turn up the heat with a good Changeling book. (One of mine, maybe?)
Lena Austin

Tasty Tuesday: No-Bake Chocolate Eclair Cake

This easy, no-bake cake is just like a chocolate eclair but better! I make one every year for my hubby's birthday and he is pretty appreciative about it, if you know what I mean. Sexy Tip: This cake is soft enough to spread around and have some fun with if you don't mind the cold!

Ingredients:
1 Box Graham Crackers
1 Tub Whipped Topping
2 Boxes Vanilla Pudding Mix
3 Cups Milk
1 Container Chocolate Frosting (Feel free to substitute your favorite flavor)

Prepare the pudding with the milk, then mix in the tub of whipped topping. Line the bottom of a cake pan or pretty clear baking dish with a single layer of graham crackers. Top with half of your mixture. Cover with another layer of graham crackers, the rest of your mixture, and a final layer of graham crackers.

Melt your frosting in the microwave for 30-40 seconds, then drizzle over the top until covered. Use the whole thing for a delicious thick top layer. Place your cake in the refrigerator for at least three hours before serving.
