On the world of Merab, women rule, while men wield the magic. But what once was an equal exchange of power has been corrupted, as many of Merab's women succumb to the lure of dictatorship and their men rebel -- violently. Nuriel, Crown Princess of Zirah, knows this firsthand. Kidnapped and tortured by the rebels, it was only with the love and protection of Wolf Lord Ze'ev, her First Consort, that Nuriel began to live again. Now the time has come for her to take her Second Consort, a Lord from the Feline Lands.
Ze'ev gave her protection. Cougar Lord Kefir offers her joy, something Nuriel hasn't felt in far too long. The Consorts' newfound happiness is threatened, though, by the increasing violence of the Rebellion. Can Nuriel find the strength to face her fears before it's too late for the Feline Lands -- and all of Zirah?

Ze'ev knew the moment they left the Great Wolf lands and entered those of the Feline ones. His nose began to twitch with the smell of the creatures. The lush, deep forest gave way to the arid-looking mountains. The bright sun beat down upon them as rocks, jagged and smooth, rose from ground. They'd soon enter Pride City and come face to face with the wretched animals allowed to roam free throughout the land.
A rumble sounded deep in his chest. Nuriel, who was sitting in front of him on the horse, laughed. "Ze'ev, we've barely crossed the border and already you begin to growl."
He wrapped one hand around her waist. "You can't trust the Cats. They are too sly and cunning for their own good. And I won't allow them to take advantage of your good heart."
She grasped his hand firmly, bringing it to her soft lips. "I assure you, Consort, I have no intention of choosing a husband who will try to take advantage of me."
Ze'ev thought he hid his flinch at the idea of sharing his Princess with another fairly well, but when Nuriel pressed another kiss to his palm, he realized that he'd failed miserably. The only thing to do was hide it under some bluster.
"That may be, but I still don't trust them. I imagine they are getting ready for our arrival with great fanfare. It's their specialty. Shower you with attention then sink their claws in."
Nuriel swung her head around, her blue eyes boring into his very soul. "Ze'ev, I realize it's a natural thing for you to not like the felines, but I'm asking you to control your wolf. And I'm asking you to trust me."
He leaned forward, pressing a light kiss to her forehead. "I do trust you, Princess. I only trust you."
She sighed but turned back to face the uneven road leading to Pride City. "We can't hide in the woods forever, love. Let's go."
He did as his wife bid and set the horse back on its way. The last several days of their journey had brought them closer. She'd managed to do what he never dreamed possible, melt the ice surrounding his heart. In truth he was scared, scared of sharing her with a damn cat. He'd known going into the marriage he would be sharing her with three others. What he hadn't counted on was the burning jealousy he experienced at the very idea of another man touching her.
He'd get over it at some point. He didn't have any choice. He only hoped that his beautiful wife would continue to be as understanding as she was now.
* * *
Nuriel worried her bottom lip between her teeth, trying to figure out how to make Ze'ev feel more secure. They were growing closer with every passing day and she didn't want to take a step back, but it was paramount she find her second Consort among the feline people. The power that swept through her when she became one with the canines of Zirah had drawn her closer to her lands and to her people. The connection, now unbreakable, also acted as a healing balm to her weary spirit, and she longed to have the same with the felines.
This leg of their journey would test her and Ze'ev. She leaned back into her husband's warmth. Even with the sun high and full, she was chilled to the bone. It was a feeling she hadn't been able to shake since Storm, the insane former Healer from the Rayne Lands, had abducted her. She hadn't been able to shake it, except when she was wrapped within the Wolf Lord's strong embrace. Her nerves were getting the better of her, she realized with irritation. She was the Crown Princess of Zirah, and she needed to pull herself together to face the high-strung Felines.
Nuriel and Ze'ev rode flanked by a group of heavily armed guards. Darmon took her safety seriously and expressed his concern over the fact that Storm had not been apprehended. The fact that she'd seen his reflection in her bath water doubled the worry her security forces grappled with. Nuriel would make sure that Darmon always held a position within her court even if he chose not to remain with her after her Marriage Tour ended...

On the world of Merab, women rule, while men wield the magic. It's been an equitable system, until now. Nuriel had been so excited to join her foster sister, Temair, on her Tour of Emetra, the Elemental Continent. She never expected to get caught up in a violent rebellion as the men of Merab strike back against the women who have oppressed them. Captured and terrorized by one of the rebels, Nuriel retreated into herself, terrified of further abuse.
Now that Temair has found her four Consorts and ascended to the throne, Nuriel must begin her own journey, a journey that terrifies her. Ze'ev is just as wounded as Nuriel. The fat fool with the greasy hair and foul breath was in his face again. Luthar, the manager of the Coliseum, had approached Ze'ev more than once, but until now Ze'ev had sent him unceremoniously on his way. He'd like to do so again, but resistance was no longer an option. Ze'ev had been sentenced, and his execution was scheduled for dawn. The only way out was to fight, so fight he would.
Never mind that the idea of the arena was repugnant to him. Never mind that he felt nothing but pity for his proposed opponent, a feral wolf so abused it was beyond his ability to communicate with it on any level. Never mind that his honor as one of the Canin, the Wolf Clan, and his pride in himself as a man was at stake. Ze'ev was determined to live, and the only way to do so was to suck it up and take his place in the arena this afternoon.
"You are one of the lucky ones," Luthar was preening, as if Ze'ev's so-called good fortune had something to do with him. "The Crown Princess will be in the stands today. She's seeking her First Consort, and today's champion, should she find him acceptable, will fill that role."
Oh Sacred Mother. Even if he won, Ze'ev wouldn't be free. He'd have a wife to contend with.
A low growl and flick of his hand sent Luthar scuttling out of his way, and Ze'ev moved to peer through the window of the anteroom and into the Coliseum. The battle space, a gentle oval, was fifty feet wide by seventy feet long; more than cozy enough for him to get a good look at the bride in question.
His first reaction to the sight was surprise. He'd seen the Princess Nuriel once, eight years ago as the fifteen-year-old beauty was paraded out of the capital on her way to foster with the Emetran Royal Family. Her expression had been vivacious, her hair a tumble of golden curls and her gown cut to best display her nubile young body. At almost twenty, Ze'ev had been utterly enchanted, and somewhat disgusted with himself. He'd have gutted any man who looked at his twelve-year-old sister the way he was looking at the Princess.
He'd proved it, too.
Ze'ev shook off the reminder of his crime and focused again on the Princess. Gone were the rosy cheeks and voluptuous curves. Instead a pale, thin shadow of a woman sat silently in the stands. Her hair, still a buttery gold in color, was pulled into a tight bun at the nape of her neck. The few tendrils that escaped the severe knot looked dull and lifeless.
Ze'ev felt a satisfied smile curl his lips. This woman wasn't looking for a mate, particularly a mate like himself. It would be easy to scare her off, and if she proved problematic, he had no doubt she'd be easily escaped.

Blurb:
Queen Temair and her Consorts may have won the first battle, but the war with the Male Rebellion is just beginning. Fyre Lord Miach and Rayne Lord Dathan, Temair's first two Consorts, must travel from their Queen's side to investigate charges of abuse against men at a village in the Fyre Lands. Alone together for the first time, the passion that's been simmering between the two men explodes, leading them on a journey of the body... and the heart.

Miach settled more comfortably into the saddle and suppressed an irritated sigh. Last night had been the first he'd spent away from Temair since he'd bonded with her as Consort, and he'd hated it. Hated it. It hadn't helped that the rumors of abuse that had brought him out of the castle and across the countryside had proved to be true.
What had helped, surprisingly enough, was the presence of his fellow Consort.
Miach would have chosen to leave Dathan, Lord Rayne, behind with their wife for a number of reasons. There was the fact that, among the Consorts, Dathan was the only one whose magic was a match for Miach's own. At least that was the excuse he'd given their wife. But Temair had countered with the argument that her Aire Consort, Zevan, was a vicious and dirty fighter and made up in strategy what he lacked in experience. And, she'd commented from beneath raised brows, she wasn't a helpless female by any means. Which was true.
It was Earth Lord Elan, Temair's fourth Consort, who cornered Miach and called him on his attempted maneuvering. "You don't want to be alone with Dathan overnight," he'd rumbled in his resonant voice. Miach wanted to argue, but he couldn't. In his gentle, nonjudgmental way, Elan was right.
Miach and Dathan had been dancing around an attraction that baffled the Fyre Lord since even before Temair had chosen Dathan for her Second Consort. They'd finally acted on it -- up to a point -- in the Earth Lands, but Miach was still a bit uncomfortable with the bond. Not because Dathan was a male, but because Dathan had breached Miach's carefully constructed walls and forced his way into Miach's heart.
He was pulled from his thoughts by the sensation of being watched, but he didn't allow himself to turn and confront his observer. If he were to meet Dathan's gaze, he'd just be opening himself up to one of the Rayne Lord's smart-assed remarks. Instead he straightened his spine and tried to ignore the fact that Dathan's glowing blue gaze affected him like a physical caress.
"We need to stop." Miach suppressed a shiver at the sound of Dathan's velvety voice.
"We can make it home tonight," he countered, though he knew full well Dathan was correct. The journey to the small village on the outskirts of the Fyre Lands had only taken half a day, but the ensuing investigation, trial and sentencing had dragged late into the afternoon of the second day. Now, long past sunset, the men were still easily three or four hours from the castle, and it would be foolish to push the horses over unfamiliar terrain in the dark.
"Miach." Just his name in that touchable voice.
"Oh, fuck it." Miach gave in to the inevitable and pulled his horse to a stop.
Dathan, apparently knowing what was good for him for a change, was silent as they constructed a makeshift lean-to out of several dead branches and their saddle blankets. The amused smile on his face spoke volumes, though.
Horses groomed, fyre started, Miach was at loose ends. Dathan sprawled before the fyre, propped up on his elbows, one leg bent and listing slightly to the side, just enough to emphasize the bulge between his thighs. Miach wanted him. Wanted, wanted, wanted, and he was fucking pissed because he felt too awkward, too fucking shy, to make a move. Worse, he knew Dathan would welcome it, wanted him every bit as much.
The Rayne Lord's smile grew, and his tilted blue eyes danced with amusement as Miach wandered restlessly from horses to fyre to shelter and back.
"Come sit down, Consort. I promise not to jump on your delectable body." Laughter lurked in Dathan's voice, and Miach sent him a poisonous look, which his fellow Consort deliberately misinterpreted. "Oh," he asked, wide eyed and teasing, "did you want me to jump on you?"
Yes. Sacred elements, yes. Take the decision out of my hands. Miach growled, more at himself than at Dathan's teasing. Growled even more at the tender light that entered those sloe eyes.
Dathan rose, a ripple of golden skin in fine, thin wool breeches and an open cotton vest, and moved to stand in front of Miach. "Tell me what you want, Miach." His blue eyes were serious and intent. "You know you can have it." It was an echo of the words the Rayne Lord had spoken in the Earth Lands, and the memory zapped straight to Miach's balls, with an odd stop along the way to squeeze at his heart.
Looking into those eyes, Miach couldn't force out the truth, but he couldn't lie, either. "I want things to be easy," he muttered in compromise.
This time Dathan's laugh was amused, but empty of any mockery. "Oh, Consort, you are the least easy man I know." He laid a hand along Miach's jaw, and the heat seared him. "Not easy, but worth it. Tell me what you want, Miach," he repeated, stroking clever fingers down Miach's throat, sliding his hand around to cup Miach's neck, just holding, not pulling. "I need you to say the words."

The Queens of Merab: Temair's Earth by Violet Summers
|
Blurb:
On the world of Merab, women rule, while men wield the magic. For generations it was a system that worked, but the old adage is true: power often corrupts, and many of the women of Merab have begun to use their power for the good of themselves, not the good of the country.
Temair knew that one day she'd have to step up and take her place as Queen of Emetra; she just didn't expect for it to happen so soon! Now she finds herself on a Tour of the Queendom in search of her four Consorts –- the four men whose Elemental magic will awaken hers. In the process she's also found a troubled society where the men are tired of being abused and exploited.
Her First Consort, Fyre Lord Miach, is all warrior. Her Second Consort, Rayne Lord Dathan, is all play. Aire Lord Zevan was badly abused by the woman who should have protected him –- his own mother. Lady Aire didn't confine her power-play to her son, however, daring to attack Temair and her foster sister, Princess Nuriel, too.
So, for all concerned, their visit to Earth seems like an idyllic time of rest. The women are loving and nurturing, and the men are amiable and calm. But under the surface peace and joy, the rebellion is brewing as the men of Earth begin to realize that loving control is still control, and it's oppressive no matter how well intentioned. Add to that the return of a past foe, and a plan to end the reign of the Queendom forever, and end Temair's life in the process.

Temair curled, propped against the headboard of the giant bed in the chamber the Earth Mother had housed them in. Zevan, the newest and youngest of her Consorts, lay beside her, head snuggled in her lap, his customary look of wonder smoothed just slightly by his near sleep state. Dathan, her Rayne Consort, laid on her other side, one arm wrapped behind her, the other toying with Zevan's spiky hair. There was nothing sexual in his touch, not like if he'd been touching Miach.
No, Dathan -- and Miach, too, for that matter -- had adopted Zevan, treating him like a much cherished younger brother. And Zevan flourished under their attention. After a lifetime of abuse, twenty-one years deprived of any affection, her Aire Lord soaked up every kind word, every soft touch they sent his way. They were all happy to oblige him. Temair savored the sleek, cool silk of his skin, and spent as much time wrapped around him as possible. Dathan gifted the younger man with careless hugs, ruffled hair, and even the occasional kiss to the top of the head that were all the more meaningful because the Rayne Lord did it so absently.
Even Miach, who was by no stretch of the imagination cuddly, found subtle ways to care for Zevan. If Temair hadn't been hopelessly in love with her Fyre and Rayne Consorts already, their careful treatment of her wounded Aire Consort would have sealed the deal. Temair released a long sigh of contentment and Nuriel, her foster sister and fellow Princess, gave a low laugh from her nest on a chaise by the fyre.
"You are entirely too pleased with yourself, Temmie," the golden-blonde Princess commented softly. Even Nuriel, who was normally oblivious to the nuances of relationships, was reluctant to jar Zevan from his half-doze, to end the peaceful moment.
"Your turn will come, Ellie." The gruff tenor voice of her First Consort sent a curl of warmth through Temair's belly. He'd been gone since early morning, first practicing the Fyeria, the deadly beautiful dance-like martial art he excelled at, and then wandering the Earth Lands with Darmon, who was Miach's best friend and sparring partner, and the head of Temair's Royal Guard. Temair recognized the necessity of his absence, but that didn't make her miss him any less. She couldn't help but notice that Dathan's body seemed to relax further into the mattress, releasing an almost invisible tension, with Miach's return as well.
Nuriel wrinkled her nose at Miach and smiled adorably, though the smile didn't light up her eyes quite the way it had before they'd been attacked at the Aerie. "That's not reassuring, Lord Fyre," she murmured.
Miach passed a gentle hand over her hair, a gesture he'd never have even considered a month ago, and slid onto the bed. Temair suppressed a little smile when he carefully chose the side farthest from Dathan. Her poor Fyre Consort still wasn't exactly sure how to deal with the seductive, deceptively easy going Rayne Lord.
He hip-checked Zevan out of his way, crowding the younger man against Temair's side, and gathered as much of her into his arms as he could manage, considering how tangled up she was with her other Consorts.
"Things here are remarkably peaceful," he reported, directing his words to her, though they both knew Dathan and Zevan were listening just as intently. "The men seem to be cherished, even pampered."
Temair thought she detected a trace of disapproval in his voice.
"And everyone acts disgustingly cheerful." He shot a sardonic glance at Dathan, wisps of scarlet flame cutting the chaos-black of his eyes. "You should fit right in, Water Boy."
Dathan laughed at the implied insult and blew the Fyre Lord a kiss. Zevan choked back a snicker of his own, and Temair lay grinning like a fool, loving everything about her Consorts.

House of MonMarte: Willa's Master by Violet Summers
|
Blurb:
Willa Amber has long known she was a sexual submissive at heart, so it wasn't the open BDSM practiced at the exclusive House of MonMarte that sent her stomach plummeting. It wasn't even the knowledge that most of the Masters and Mistresses were more – or less – than human. No, what sent shivers down her spine was being so close to, yet so far from, Victor Breon. Vampire and Dom, Master Victor has had his eye on Willa for a long time; long enough to know that she belongs to him, body and soul. Now he just needs to prove it to her.

He was the perfect romance novel hero. The artist in her itched to paint him. Naked and on his back, he'd have one arm under his head and the other would rest across his flat stomach; long, elegant fingers pointing tauntingly downward. She imagined thick thighs and narrow hips. She'd place a sheet along his hip, wanting only a hint of what he might be carrying between his strong legs. His fangs would be down and she would paint a trickle of blood at the corner of his full mouth.
Damn but she wanted him, and not just to paint. She yearned to know what it felt like to be controlled by one of the sexiest vampires to ever walk the planet. She wasn't a fool, though. Victor Breon was always in the company of some statuesque beauty, usually blonde and definitely stacked. Her five foot four frame and short brown hair wasn't his preferred partner. She bet her small rounded stature would inspire no lust in him whatsoever. It didn't stop her from coming here to watch him, even though she always swore she'd never return.
"More champagne, mademoiselle?" a slave asked, plucking a glass off his tray. She smiled and drained the rest of her drink before accepting the new one. The bubbles hit her belly and she giggled involuntarily. She loved the way champagne made her feel, light and airy and without a care in the world. Normally she only allowed herself one glass but tonight Lisa was driving, so Willa was on her third. Not drunk, but definitely light-headed, she moved to a pair of French doors; some fresh air would feel good and might help to cool down her heated body.
Willa walked out into the expansive gardens, wandering along the lush green grass. She kicked off her shoes, savoring the refreshing, velvety dampness of the lawn beneath her feet, and moved further into the garden beyond the flowers beds. Tall hedges, well over six feet, surrounded her on either side, providing a sense of intimacy laced with apprehension. She came upon a large marble table alongside a bench and had a brief mental image of a woman -- herself -- stretched out on the table, a bound sacrifice to a specific Master. Sitting on the cool surface of the table, she gazed at the full moon.
Tipping her head back, she closed her eyes and imagined Victor behind her, slowly running his hands along her arms, kissing the back of her neck and nibbling, softly at first, then harder, until sharp fangs stung soft skin. His hands would move slowly, surely, to cup her full breasts, stealing her breath. The scene played vividly in her mind and she lifted one hand to her left breast. She slipped her hand inside her low cut bodice, stroking her nipple.
She moaned a little as she moved her other hand to her thigh to pull up the skirt of her black silk dress. Her hand dragged across her panties. Soaking wet. She opened her eyes and checked to see if anyone was near, but the height of the hedges afforded her privacy.
She dipped two fingers between her lower lips and stroked around her tight clit. Hot pleasure shot through her and she moved her fingers faster, playing with her full lower lips and pinching her nipple even tighter. The slight pain rippled from her breast straight to her core. She leaned back on the surface of the wide table, propped on one elbow, and spread her legs wider, allowing her fingers to slip inside her entrance and stroke the wet flesh there. She pushed them as deep as she could reach and moved them sensuously back and forth, her hips rising and falling in rhythm with her stroking.
She cried out and her back arched off the bench as her orgasm rode up her spine; she was only a few strokes away. He'd be standing behind her, watching her, controlling her.
"Do not come." Willa froze, a breath away from explosion, reacting mindlessly to the low, accented voice that seemed to float straight out of her fantasy to wrap around her.
She knew that voice. Even if she'd only ever heard it from a distance in real life, she'd heard it often enough in her fantasies and dreams. It was the voice of her fantasy Master, Victor Breon. Scrambling back to an upright position, she snapped her knees together.
"Keep your thighs open." The voice -- it couldn't really be Victor, that had to be the champagne talking -- was filled with such sensual command that she immediately spread her legs again, helpless to resist. She heard him grunt his satisfaction. "You insult your hosts by coming out here alone instead of finding someone to share your pleasure with." His voice deepened. "You are a very badly trained submissive, Willa."

Book Summary On the world of Merab, women rule, while men wield the magic. It's been an equitable system, until now. Temair knew that one day she'd have to step up and take her place as Queen of Emetra; she just didn't expect for it to happen so soon!
Now she finds herself on a Tour of the Queendom in search of her four Consorts –- the four men whose Elemental magic will awaken hers. Her First Consort, Fyre Lord Miach, is all warrior. Her Second Consort, Rayne Lord Dathan, is all play. Bonding with Fyre and Rayne was almost effortless. Aire is giving her some problems –- mostly because his mother has him so sequestered that Temair hasn't even caught a glimpse of the man!
When she finally does, Temair isn't at all prepared for what she finds. Instead of a stone cold fighter or a playful playboy, she finds a man scarred by life. Zevan needs more than Temair's love; he needs the love and support of the family she's building, too. Only by seeing himself through their eyes can he truly believe he's worthy to be Temair's Aire.

Temair paced the large sitting room restlessly. Even wrapped up in a woolen shawl and calling on her inner fyre, she was still chilled. Poor Dathan was huddled before the monstrous fireplace trying to warm his thin blood.
She approached the floor to ceiling windows covering the north wall. The Aerie was built atop a giant cliff; all Temair was able to see were never-ending gray skies above and the equally dull waters of the Galta Sea below. At night she could hear the waves crashing into the walls making sleep difficult.
Even Dathan, who was always at home near the water, wasn't drawn to the turbulent tides below. This was not the same place her Aire father had described to her. She'd expected the physical chill; she just hadn't realized the cold would be soul-deep.
She'd spent two days looking out these windows waiting to meet Lady Alta's only son, Zevan, and for two days she'd been told that he was ill. Instead the Lady had foisted her nephew Nabal upon them.
Temair had taken an instant dislike to the man. He was too eager to talk with her exclusively. He completely ignored Miach and Dathan, treating them more like servants than her Consorts. That behavior alone would have made her dislike him, but there was more. Anytime she made an inquiry concerning Lady Alta's son, Nabal had a snide comment to make concerning the other man. Rather than defending her son, Lady Alta always laughed and remarked how observant Nabal was.
The wide double doors at the end of the room opened and Lady Alta, escorted by the odious Nabal, entered the room with a flourish. The older woman smiled as she approached, but Temair wasn't fooled. There was no joy in the Lady's silvery eyes. She wasn't even sure the Lady had ever experienced that particular emotion.
The Lady wore her hair in the short, spiky style of the Aire people, the dark charcoal color indicating the strength of her aire magic. White strands flowed from her crown to frame her face.
"Princess," she bowed slightly as she stopped next to Temair. "I assume you have been taken care of. All your needs met?"
Temair bristled at the slightly caustic tone the woman took. It was obvious Lady Alta didn't like Temair, but since she had not been blatantly rude, Temair bore her tedious behavior.
"Thank you, Lady Alta, all my needs have been met, with the exception of meeting your son." Temair gripped her shawl tighter around her not only to relieve the sudden chill in the room, but to keep from strangling her hostess.
The Lady's smile faded. "Yes, well, he is still not up to visitors. But I have good news. Nabal has been generous enough to offer to escort you on a tour of the grounds."
By the elements! Temair did not want to spend any more time with Nabal. She wasn't the only one who couldn't stand the man. Miach wanted nothing more than to choke him to death. Dathan was more diplomatic, but he lost no opportunity to make Nabal look like a fool without him realizing it.
"Thank you, Lady," she said between clenched teeth, then turned to Nabal. "And thank you, Nabal, for your time."
"You are more than welcome, Princess. It is no chore escorting such a beautiful woman around my home." His smile reminded her of a predator just before they bit the head off something small and helpless. "I will meet you here in three hours." He bowed, then straightening he held out his arm for his aunt and they made their exit.
Temair smiled ruefully as she walked over to the divan Dathan was huddled on. Miach came out of the corner he'd been hiding in to sit down on her other side. "Spark, if I have to spend another minute with that little snake I will kill him for sure."
She patted her husband's cheek. "Now, now, my warrior. I let you hide in dark corners whenever they come to speak with me. I won't let you abandon me during our little excursions."
Dathan leaned forward. "Quit whining, Consort. At least you're warm. I haven't felt a lick of heat in three days."
Temair raised an eyebrow. "Not a lick, Lord Rayne?"
"Okay, maybe a few licks here and there," he grudgingly admitted. "But even then one side of me is generally cold." Miach snorted at Dathan's complaint. "If Number One over there wasn't such a baby, I could sleep in the middle and be kept warm by both of your fyres." Dathan's pout pulled at Temair's heart. Miach's scowl tickled her sense of humor.
"It's not my fault you have such thin blood, water boy. It's not my job to keep your skinny ass warm." She stifled a laugh as their familiar bickering continued.
Finally, she grabbed each man by the hand. "Enough, you two! Tonight you can sleep between us, Dathan." When the Rayne Lord's blue eyes began to glow, Temair laughed. "Sleep, Dathan," she emphasized with a grin.
"Spark," Miach's warning growl lit her fyre and made her wet.
She leaned over and kissed him deeply. Pulling back she stared into his burning black eyes. "Please, Miach, do this for me. I promise all will be well."
Dathan reached out and squeezed Miach's thigh, causing her warrior to jump. "Don't you worry, hot stuff, I won't touch anything."
"Damn right, you won't," Miach grumbled.
Dathan winked at him. "Unless, of course, you beg me to."

On the world of Merab, women rule, while men wield the magic.
It's been an equitable system, until now. Temair knew that one day she'd have to step up and take her place as Queen of Emetra; she just didn't expect for it to happen so soon! Now she finds herself on a Tour of the Queendom in search of her four Consorts –- the four men whose Elemental magic will awaken hers.
She's found her first Consort, the prickly Fyre Lord Miach, and they journey on to the Rayne Lands, where Miach comments the local uniform consists of... skin!
Rayne Lord Dathan is Miach's polar opposite, fun and easygoing. Temair immediately wants him, while Miach wants to get as far away from him as possible. When the threats against Temair's life escalate, Dathan must step up and prove to his Princess and her First Consort that he's strong enough to love them, and strong enough to defend them –- and their world –- as well.

"Great Mother," Nuriel breathed behind her, just loudly enough for Temair to hear. She twisted in her saddle and looked questioningly at her foster sister.
"Just look at them," the lovely blonde continued in an awed voice, her eyes devouring the seven gorgeous men ranged in a tight arrow on the stairs to Villa Rayne.
The seven sons of Rayne ranged in age from sixteen to thirty, Temair remembered. She let her gaze roam from one to the next, and had to admit Nuriel had a point. Each was more gorgeous than the next. They stood proudly, their golden beauty on display, covered only by low-riding sarongs in a multitude of shades of blue.
Nuriel sighed gustily, and Temair didn't even try to suppress her laughter at her friend's salacious appreciation of their hostess's sons. Her days of silence were over. They had to be if she were to be an effective Queen.
To her right, Miach snorted derisively. "It's no wonder she's got her own little army of sons, as the local uniform seems to be skin." When she turned his way, though, Miach had that little smile playing around the corners of his mouth. The one that lit a fire in her core, and sent lava rolling through her pussy.
"I'd ask if you were jealous," she quipped, laughing again at his outraged expression. "But you know full well you're as gorgeous as any of them." She gave him an exaggerated once-over. "Actually, My Lord Husband, you're more glorious than most of them."
Nuriel and Sorcha -- who was riding slightly behind Miach and to his right -- had been listening, and now both women joined Temair's laughter as the rather moody Miach preened, subtly of course, under Temair's compliment. Her sister princesses, though, didn't receive the benefit of his smoldering gaze, and the promise of his body. That was reserved for Temair alone.
Firmly drawing her attention away from her Consort's sculpted body and back to the task at hand, Temair directed her gaze to Lady Rayne, who was waiting regally at the top of the stairs. Her silvery-blue hair was dressed in elaborate braids, most likely to combat the heavy humidity of the land. Temair could already feel her own curls drooping and concentrated for a moment on the fyre within her, which had awakened at her joining with Miach. It took a moment, but she was delighted to feel the moisture gathering at her nape and weighing down her hair begin to evaporate.
The man standing next to the Lady, Temair knew, was her eldest son. The Lord of Rayne, the Lady had explained during their mirrored conversation, was out with the hunting parties. They'd not expected the Royal Visit for another few weeks, and so were "woefully unprepared." Considering the parade of dancing citizens tossing handfuls of flower petals at her, Temair was a bit daunted at the idea of what prepared would have looked like.
She hadn't paid a lot of attention to the eldest son during their approach. The Lady had also mentioned in their conversation that she thought one or two of her younger sons would make a good match for Temair. Her eldest, she'd confided, was a bit of a playboy, and not well suited for a life of politics.
Now, after fully appreciating the banquet of half-naked male flesh ranged over the stairs, Temair found her attention on the eldest son. He wore his hair in a loose, shoulder length cut; full of layers that should have made it look shaggy, but instead made it look tousled, as if he'd just crawled out of bed. It looked almost black from a distance, much like Miach's, but when he shifted into the light she realized it was instead a deep, indigo blue, fitting of his element. He tossed his head, flipping longish bangs out of his eyes, and for Temair, for just a second, time stopped.
His almond-shaped eyes were dark, but as his gaze met hers they flashed with brilliant blue sparks. Temair felt that look like a physical touch, tingling over her body in a way very similar to Miach's tendrils of fyre.
She must have caught her breath, or made some sort of noise or movement, because Miach was instantly at her side, utterly disregarding the protocol that dictated he should stay a stride behind.
"What is it, Spark?" he asked, his gaze following the line of hers. His movement, thankfully, broke the attention of the eldest son of Rayne, who flicked his gaze in Miach's direction. This left Temair's attention free to notice the way young Lord Rayne's eyes widened and Miach's narrowed as their gazes touched.
Interesting.

The Queen's private bed chamber was one of Temair's favorite rooms in the palace. The warm cream and gold of the walls was offset with vibrant jewel-toned accessories that reflected the Elements -- and personalities -- of all four of Temair's fathers. It was comforting and familiar.
What was not comforting and familiar was the sight of her mother, sitting up in bed while Torrent, Temair's Rayne Father, held a cloth to Akasha's head.
Temair shot a furious glance at Denich. "You said she was fine," she muttered as she ran to her mother's side.
Her mother smiled and pulled Temair down to cuddle beside her, much as she'd done when Temair was a small child. "Don't worry so much, Temmie. I am perfectly all right."
A snort had both women turning to Tobin, her Aire father. He was all but vibrating with suppressed excitement; his long, snowy hair lifting faintly in an unseen breeze. The Queen laughed. "My Lord Aire, do you wish to tell our daughter our news?" Tobin's pale gray eyes sparkled, a sure sign of good things to come.
Tobin laced his hands behind his back and rocked back on his heels, grinning. "We're pregnant."
Temair didn't know whom to hug first. She turned and wrapped her arms around her mother, tears of joy flooding her eyes, then rose to throw herself into her Aire father's arms. He was laughing as he spun her around and passed her to her Rayne father. By the time she ended up in the arms of Marl, her Earth father, Temair was dizzy with more than joy.
Moving back to her mother's side, Temair snuggled down with her head on her mother's shoulder. "Everything's okay so far?" The entire family had grieved Akasha's inability to carry another baby to term, but Temair had also battled loneliness until Nuriel and Sorcha had come to foster with her, as their mothers had with Akasha. The castle could be a very empty place for a small girl alone.
She sat up abruptly as a horrifying thought filled her mind. "Oh, no," she breathed. Her mother's sigh verified the horrible realization she'd had. "It's time, isn't it?"
Akasha pulled her back down, into her embrace. "I'm going to the country, at least for the duration of my pregnancy," her mother confirmed. Temair gave her a pleading look, but subsided immediately when her mother added, "I won't let anything interfere with this child's well-being."
"Of course," Temair responded quietly. She'd known this day would come, but her mother was still so young and vital that she hadn't expected it for years. Her stomach cramped at the thought of the responsibility.
"There's more, Tem," Denich added, sitting next to her on the side of the bed.
Her tummy tightened further. "I'm... I'm expected to find my Consorts... Now."
Denich took her hand and sent healing warmth surging through her body. "You must be bound to your Consorts before you can ascend."
Temair bit her bottom lip. She barely knew what to do with one male, much less four. She was only twenty-four! She should have years before she had to think about this. Oh, and by the four elements, she would have to visit each royal house in search of her mates.
She was well on her way to a full out panic attack when her mother's words penetrated. "Of course, I won't abdicate until you've returned from your tour," Akasha was saying. "Once you've returned, the ministers will help you to untangle all the political red-tape involved in ruling." Her mother paused, looking worried. "There is one item that I need to tell you about."
Temair waited. Her fathers, all four of them, looked outraged, while her mother looked troubled.
"There are rumors throughout the land that factions of men plan to rebel against us and our sister Queens."
Temair sucked in a startled breath. That was the last thing she'd expected to hear. "Why?"
The Queen shrugged her shoulders. "There are several theories floating about. Some men have claimed abuse by their wives. Others don't like how property rights are distributed. We have always had grumbles but now there have been a few skirmishes between our guards and the rebels."
"Idiot men," muttered Marl. The Earth Lord had no patience with what he saw as foolishness, and clearly this supposed rebellion fell into that category. "Maybe if they were doing their job and protecting their women, they'd get the rewards they feel they deserve."
Akasha sent Marl a loving smile. "Not all men are as remarkable as my men, my lord."
Marl returned her smile with one of such surprising sweetness it nearly caused Temair's tears to return.
Akasha turned back to her daughter. "Temair, my darling, you are more than ready to take my place. Choose your mates well. Choose men who will be good advisors to you, but choose also men who light your heart." Another painfully sweet look passed between the Queen and her four Consorts.
Temair nodded her head and kissed her mother's cheek. Inside she was all but screaming in terror. While she didn't much care for it, she'd learned the protocol and history. She'd read every biography and autobiography of the Queens of Merab she could get her hands on. But all the book-knowledge in the world couldn't prepare her for the actuality of being Queen. There was no point in arguing about it, though. The only thing begging for a delay would accomplish was to add stress to her mother's already perilous pregnancy. No, Temair would have to suck it up and do what was best for her country, her family, and her unborn baby sister or brother.
