Joshua hasn't seen Beo since their days at university, but when he gets word Beo needs him their political differences can't keep him from rushing to his friend's side. But Beo's been caught in the crossfire of a magical counter-attack intended to repel invasive nanoprobes, and he's not the same man Josh remembers. For one thing, now he's a bear shifter. For another? He can no longer deny how much he's always wanted Josh.

The little old lady was already unlocking the doors, which two grim-faced men swung open -- but only, he noticed, partially open, as though they were preventing anyone from rushing in. Or from escaping, he thought uneasily. Just how bad a condition was Beo in, exactly? The email had mentioned depression and turmoil. Had that been meant as an euphemism for "deranged"?
He stepped into the cool, dark interior of the church. St. Achilleus was small but solidly built, a perfect example of mid-twenty-second century Gothic revivalism, designed less for beauty than to provide sanctuary during the waves of riots and militia crackdowns. Nevertheless, there were unexpected grace notes: a flourish of hand-carved faces and flowers adorning the pews and altar screen, small but perfect stained glass windows placed high enough to be immune from vandalism, lovingly bound gilt and leather hymnals. Joshua, always attuned to beauty, felt himself relax in spite of the alien beliefs held here. This was a sacred space by virtue of its importance to the people it belonged to; he could respect that, even if he couldn't quite share it.
Much like his youthful interactions with Beo, he thought ruefully. They'd never seen eye-to-eye, to put it mildly, but there was no doubting the sincerity of his hulking, bearded friend. Beo had embodied kindness and reliability even as a young man, which had made it all the more infuriating, in Joshua's opinion, when he did incomprehensible things like voting Conservative. Or admiring the police. Or approving of modesty fads and back-to-the-homestead movements. As far as Josh was concerned, the whole patriarchal, traditional-values shtick was just a series of excuses to disenfranchise anyone different. It had driven him nuts that someone he liked as much as Beo could support any of it.
The doors swung shut behind him, and to his dismay Josh heard the tumblers of the lock falling into place as the key turned. With no time for him to react, there was a movement in the shadows and Beo stepped forward, as huge as Josh remembered -- a full half foot taller than Josh's own six-feet-two inches and as broad as a lineman. He was uncharacteristically unkempt, his hair and thick beard disheveled, his shirt untucked.
His eyes gleamed. "Joshua." His voice was hoarse, as if from disuse. "I never believed you would really come here."
And then he wrapped his arms around Josh and lifted him, holding him close. The heat radiating from his body was incredible. Josh, his arms pinned to his side, was too startled to speak. Beo's hands shifted, grabbing Josh's ass, and Josh found himself straddling Beo's waist for balance. He blushed, unable to believe this was happening. To his intense confusion, he felt Beo's erection, huge and hard, rubbing against his own crotch.
"Beo." He managed to get the word out and then couldn't think of a single thing to say. Beo seemed oblivious, or, at least, unconcerned. His huge hands pulled Josh even more firmly against his body as he nuzzled Josh's neck affectionately. Josh's own cock responded now as the sensations flooded him -- Beo's warm, moist breath, the strength of his grasping hands, and most of all that enormous erection, rubbing insistently against Josh's.

A tree limb snapped in two. The sound, crisp and sharp in the evening air, came from directly behind Maggy. They were gaining on her. Pine needles crunched under her paws, the fresh scent not covering up her fear. She'd gotten lucky with this head start. While hidden in the shadows of the bar, she'd overheard a local wolf boast that he and his cronies would have her. The bartender called him Drex, and he wasn't a man who asked before he took so she fled immediately, shifting into wolf form to run on all fours. They couldn't catch her. Her lungs ached. She wouldn't allow that to happen, not again.
There were three of them and one of her. She streaked through the forest, the trees a blur around her. This was their territory. She was passing through Upper New York State on her way to nowhere. Leaves crunched inches away from her. Swallowing her pride, she howled for help. She didn't expect an answer. She'd called before and help never came. She wouldn't think of those times. Tonight would be different. Tonight she would evade her pursuers.
They were bigger, stronger wolves, and with every passing minute, the distance separating them decreased. She couldn't outrun them. She wasn't fast enough. She had to outwit the wolves. She would make them think twice about following her. She darted into a thicket of wild rose bushes, wincing as the thorns ripped at her fur.
It was a mistake. Avoiding the branches slowed her down. The male wolves simply crashed through the bushes. A head butted her hindquarters. She tripped, rolling until she landed on her feet again. Frantic, she took two more strides. Pain pierced her lower thigh. As she pulled away, razor sharp canines sliced through her hind leg. The scent of blood filled the air.
Jaws gripped her flank. A weight landed on her lower back, flattening her. She was caught. She whimpered when another set of teeth clasped onto her free hind leg, widening her stance, leaving her exposed.
Brown front legs straddled her withers. That was Drex. He was the leader. He would go first. She twisted her neck to bite him. That excited him even more, his hard cock pressing against her rump. She flung herself back against him, trying to dislodge him. Her feeble attempts did nothing. He leaned forward, grinding her face into the ground, the taste of dark earth and blood filling her mouth. She couldn't fight him. He was too strong. Maggy squeezed her eyes shut, preparing herself for what would happen next.
A menacing growl rumbled to the right of them. Before the sound registered in Maggy's brain, the weight on her back had lifted and her legs were released. She was free. She put weight on her injured hindquarters. They held for one hopeful moment before folding under her. She couldn't run. She couldn't walk. Desperate, she dragged herself less than a yard before collapsing. She could go no farther.
She curled up, licking her wounds, inventorying the damage. The cuts were deep. Although wolves healed quickly, she wouldn't heal soon enough to save herself. She looked back. The largest wolf she had ever seen stood, his back to her, facing Drex and his henchmen. He would fight three wolves for the right to fuck her.
Mate. Emotion pulsed through Maggy. The silver gray wolf felt like he belonged to her. She shook her head in an attempt to clear it. It was wishful thinking, the result of her blood loss. He couldn't be her mate. She had no mate. She had no pack. He would fuck her until he tired of her and then leave. That was what the others had done. This wolf would do the same.
The three wolves attacked as one. The lone wolf chomped down on the smallest wolf's neck and swung, tossing the body into the path of the other two. He then charged at Drex. They rolled, biting and clawing at each other. There was a crunch of teeth through bone and a yelp of pain. When they broke, Drex lay on the ground, twitching with pain, his hide sliced into blood red ribbons.
The silver wolf stood triumphant, snarling at the other two. He swung his head and Maggy swallowed a gasp. He had only one eye, and the fur on his left side from his ear to his foreleg was crisscrossed with scars. Drex's cronies backed away, their heads lowered in deference. A whining Drex inched along the ground to join them. The silver wolf waited and watched, not moving until they disappeared into the forest.
That one-eyed gaze then turned to Maggy. She smelled his arousal. It both scared and excited her. He would take her now. He was the victor. She was his prize.

Vivian has spent her whole life under her mother's thumb. Even to the point of attempted murder of pack Alpha, Wade. When she was young, however, her father handpicked a man to protect her. To watch out for her. He formed a bond between them that set them on a path they're now traveling.
Julian has been a shadow in Vivian's mind. He's been biding his time until he was strong enough to break her mother's hold. Now that he's a power shifter in his own right, he isn't sure Vivian still needs him. She was, after all, promised to another man.
Once Julian realizes Vivian is no longer tying her life to Wade's, he hunts her down and offers to take her away. He knows danger still follows and that Vivian's mother will stop at nothing to control her daughter in her own quest for power.
But Vivian isn't quite what she seems. Even she doesn't know her full potential. When Julian's life is on the line, only she can save him.
As Healer, it is her destiny.

"The way I see it, you have three choices. You can go back to your mother, who will likely kill you. You can stay with this pack and hope they don't decide to do the same. Or you can come with me and possibly face the same fate..." He grinned wickedly at her, letting the last word trail off. "...but have a hell of a lot better time before the end. What do you say, precious?"
Damn. Leave it to Julian to state the obvious in such a naughty way. The man simply didn't take anything seriously. He never had. Why he was here was totally beyond Vivian's imagination. She hadn't seen or heard from him in over two years. Why here? Why now? And to make matters worse, he was completely naked. He must have come to her in his lion form. Shifting had a way of wreaking havoc on clothing.
She sighed. Julian had always seemed to avoid her, though Vivian had been able to mentally find him at will. He never communicated with her, though. For the most part, he simply seemed to ignore her, or so she thought. Until tonight.
"Some choice." She crossed her arms over her breasts, hoping like hell he didn't see the way her nipples puckered through the thin cotton of her shirt. Given the fact that he probably would never have realized she existed had it not been for her father's magical bond tying their lives together, she didn't want to embarrass herself by letting him know how he affected her. Had always affected her. "Do you have a plan?"
"You're not a prisoner here," Julian shrugged. "I see no reason we can't just walk out."
"If I leave, they'll most certainly follow. I think I'm kind of on probation here." Vivian had a dull roar in her head and an ache behind her right eye. The effort of blocking her mother from seeing into her mind was becoming too much for her. The old woman was a very strong telepath, and Vivian had been fighting her in earnest for weeks now. "Look, Julian. Maybe I should just stay. They've not harmed me, though I know they hate me. I honestly deserve whatever punishment they see fit to deliver."
In the blink of an eye, Julian's whole attitude changed. He went from the teasing, fun-loving, easygoing guy she'd grown up with to a man so intense, she actually took a couple of steps away from him.
"Over my dead body." He snatched her hand and yanked her to him, pulling her after him out of the door to the den she'd been assigned. "We're leaving. Now."
"Julian, I don't think this is a good idea."
"Why?" Julian hissed. "Because of some overactive sense of sacrifice? You did what you had to do to stay alive and protect innocents in the wake of your mother's wrath. You shouldn't be punished for it."
He led her through the door and into the woods. He only stopped before leaving the relative safety of the trees and brush surrounding her den to cross the clearing just outside the community. Looking around thoroughly, and, Vivian knew, using every enhanced sense he had, he kept her hand and tugged her into a crouch before proceeding down the darkened path leading outside the magical walls of the pack.
"Julian, stop. Please." Despite her reluctance to leave, Vivian still crouched and followed his lead, speaking in hushed whispers. "If we do this, they'll never trust me again. I'll be an outcast."
Julian whirled around on her, backing her up until her back was against a nearby tree. When he spoke, it was with more ferocity than Vivian had previously thought him capable of. "You'll never be a part of that pack, Vivian. You're a witch. The coven was your home. Not this place."
Vivian had never seen Julian so passionate or serious about anything. He was always the one joking and laughing. Now, his eyes drilled a hole straight through her soul. He was deadly serious.
"And what about you, Julian?" Her voice was barely above a whisper. "You're both warlock and shifter. Where do you belong?"

Rumors had run rampant about the bar on Colfax in downtown Denver for years. Ian had been hearing about it since his senior year of high school, when he came out to his parents and took Roy to the prom. But, two years into college at DU, Roy had decided he really wasn't gay after all and had married some girl named Jo Ellen so fast Ian had assumed there was a shotgun involved. There wasn't, of course, but Ian heard later that a Fundamentalist minister and some sort of "reparative therapist," whatever the fuck that meant, had seen quite a lot of Roy before Roy had decided Ian was no longer his cup of tea.
In any case, Ian was still bitter. Which was at least one reason why he was standing by the front door of Gomorrah, wondering if he really, truly had the balls to go inside what was rumored to be one of the kinkiest sex clubs in the city.
Ian was gay but he wasn't into cruising, picking up dudes for one-night stands or getting high and fucking anything he could get his hands on. That had always seemed a little perverted to him. He believed in finding that just-right guy and settling down with a couple of dogs and maybe some adopted kids. Or at least he had. Then Roy's experience had shown him there were a lot of other ways to pervert people. Checking out what Gomorrah had to offer -- just once -- seemed like not that big a deal.
Which of course was why he'd been standing here for fifteen minutes trying to decide if he was really, truly going to go inside.
Ian was so absorbed in his own thoughts, and his inability to make a decision, that he jumped when the door to the club opened. He recognized the man who emerged as a bouncer who'd been watching him off and on for the last several minutes. When the time had moved from 8:59 to 9:00, he'd gone inside. Now he came down the few steps from the door, shrugging into a black leather jacket and giving Ian another curious look.
"You on your own, kid?"
The guy was barely older than Ian, in his late twenties, maybe, but somehow the "kid" didn't rankle. Much.
Ian shrugged, thinking it was kind of a creepy question. "I'm allowed to stand here, right?"
The bouncer grinned. In spite of his size -- he had a couple of inches on Ian and maybe twenty pounds, all of it muscle -- Ian didn't find him all that menacing when he grinned.
"It's not illegal, but it's not the best idea. Not the best idea going in there on your own, either." He seemed a bit more sober at this last.
"I can take care of myself." Ian was shooting for self-assured, but it came out closer to petulant.
"Yeah, I bet you can." Ian wasn't sure if the other man was mocking him or not. "Tell you what. I could use a drink. I'll take you in."
Ian hesitated. The guy seemed genuine enough. On reflection, he wasn't even all that creepy. He was big, with a shaved head and the edge of some kind of tribal tattoo peeking out from under his collar, but somehow he seemed safe. Maybe Ian was just being naïve and dumb, but he'd gotten this far trusting his instincts. He nodded.
"Cool," said the bouncer. "I'm Nick." He held out his hand.
Ian took it. The grip was firm, the hand itself big enough to engulf Ian's. "Ian."
Nick nodded. "Okay, one thing before we go in." His expression had sobered. "Everything you've heard about this place, all the stuff you're sure is pure bullshit? It's all true."
On that ominous note, he turned and led the way back up the stairs.

Best-Laid Plans of Mice and Authors...

...gang aft agly. In this case, it's not a big deal. But my book, Gomorrah: Bonded, originally scheduled for 6-25, is now coming out... this Friday, 6-11 (or technically Thursday unless you're in one of the areas M picks as the "it's Friday Somewhere" for release date purposes).

So here's the scoop... with great cover art from Renee George, who whipped this lovely puppy together in record time.

At Gomorrah, the customers drink you.

The shrink's small office smelled musky, but not unpleasant. It was like a mix of orange spice and dust. Trini stared at the small man in the brown suit and bow tie who sat across from her, looking down at his pad and paper, scribbling little notes in the margin. His hair was short and his forehead stretched to the top of his dome. She pondered whether his hair had retreated to the back of his head or whether it had just migrated to his eyebrows. They were bold and bushy.
He wore spectacles, the old-fashioned kind, hiding bulging eyes, and Trini couldn't help but wonder if he'd ever heard of Lasik. Nah, the doctor probably liked the effect of the round spectacles -- made him feel more competent somehow. Or maybe he was very competent and didn't care what anybody thought.
Psychiatrists and psychologists were a real bone of contention for Trini, who had her own motives for not trusting the profession. The only reason she was giving Dr. Myron Gray a try was because her best friend, Merl, said he worked wonders with behavior problems. And she definitely had behavior problems.
He still hadn't stopped writing in his little yellow notepad. Trini was beginning to think he was solving world hunger or curing cancer, because she'd only been in his office for five minutes and surely that wasn't enough time to write a book. She clenched and rubbed her hands together, trying to avoid putting her fingers in her mouth. She'd already shredded most of her nails to the nub, and didn't want to suffer the humiliation of having the doctor read some deep psychosis in a nail-biting habit.
Suddenly, he stopped. "Let me see if I understand what you think the problem is. You have problems maintaining yourself in stressful conditions. Is that it?"
"Exactly!" Her hand-wringing worsened as she fought the urge to nibble. "I can't take it, Doctor. One minute I'm green, the next blue, brown, silver, purple, then I'm back to my old self again. It drives me nuts!" She hadn't meant it to come out quite that way. It sounded crazy, even to her own ears.
"Green, then blue. Interesting." He jotted on the pad.
"I'm talking metaphorically of course." Damn it, her right index finger cuticle had found its way between her teeth.
"Metaphorically. Interesting." More jotting commenced.
"I mean I don't really turn blue or green, or any other color for that matter. I'm just... well, you know."
"Yes, interesting."
Trini was beginning to think that all that scribbling was going to lead to her being locked up in the looney-bin. She couldn't go through that again. After her parents had died, she'd been locked up for four years, until she was twenty, and Merl, eighteen and barely out of college, came to her rescue. Trini wouldn't allow that to happen a second time.
She stood up. "You know, Doctor. I don't think this is going to work out. I'm going to be fine." Slowly, she worked her way over to her coat and purse. "I mean, of course I'm going to be fine."
She tried a casual lazy smile, just to let him know she really was all right, but Trini wasn't sure if she knew exactly how to pull off casual lazy. She hoped it didn't look maniacal. "Just fine." Her scarf went on first, then the coat. "I don't really need therapy. I don't know what I was thinking! I must be crazy."
This was going bad in a someone-just-planted-dynamite-at-the-top-of-the-Alps-and-an-avalanche-is-coming-to-demolish-a-tiny-Swiss-town way. Talk about a little-ole-lady who was going kersplat.
She grabbed her purse and put a hand on the doorknob. "I didn't mean that. I'm not crazy really, just a little..."
He was looking at her hands.
Good God! They'd turned bright green. She knew she shouldn't have worn the neon green coat, but it was her favorite -- all fluffy and fuzzy. Quickly, Trini shoved her hands that now looked like matching mittens into her pockets.
Dr. Gray didn't appear ruffled in any way. He just calmly put down his pad and paper and said, "Sit down, Trinity. I think I can help you."
Dead stop. Something in Trini's brain clicked and her voice went two octaves higher. "You can?"
"Yes. Changing colors, though not a voluntary behavior, is still behavior. Once we get down to the root cause, or the why, then it's just a matter of training your body to an alternative behavior."
"So, you don't think I'm crazy?"
"No, Trinity." He smiled and it was a wonderful smile with shiny little white teeth. "I don't think you're crazy."
What a beautiful little man... "Call me Trini." She took off her coat. "Everyone calls me Trini."

Haley Dixon looked over the website one last time. Candles, check. Salt circle around the bed, check. One blood red rose in full bloom, check. Okay, she was ready. Or as ready as she would ever be.
She glanced at the clock on the wall. Five minutes until midnight. Taking a deep breath, she wondered if she was crazy. Yeah, crazy, lonely, and most of all horny. At least she wasn't alone. Her two best IM friends should be doing the same spell. If this spell worked she would have her own fantasy man to please her all night long. Hell, if it didn't she hoped it would at least inspire her subconscious to give her a good erotic dream. Not to mention they would laugh and blog about it tomorrow.
Raising her wineglass to her lips, she downed the rest of the sweet golden liquid. She had to be the most desperate woman in the world to resort to conjuring up a man to satisfy her. Doubts pounded her. What was she doing? She could just go out and find any man off the street.
No, he might expect more than she had to give, and right now she wanted a no-strings-attached night of bliss. She had enough to worry about. Family, friends, co-workers -- the list went on and on. There was no way she was going to add one more responsibility to her already overcrowded life.
Her alarm clock went off, making her jump and spill a few drops of wine over the rim of her glass. Too late for doubts now. Suck it up and just do it. She pulled the paper from the counter beside the empty wine bottle.
From deep beneath the surface rise
Demon lover, heed my call
Come satisfy my heady lust
Stay until my passions wane
Come to me in all your glory
Provide a happily ever after
To my bedtime story

That was the dumbest sounding spell she'd ever seen. Not that she'd ever seen one before. She shook her head. Had she really expected this to work?
A slight breeze blew through the room ruffling the red sheer curtains of her bedroom. The candlelight flickered for a second before blinking completely out. She didn't have a window open, did she? No. She never kept her windows open at night.
Where the hell had that gust of air come from then?
"Where am I?" A deep voice asked. A very male voice.
Her chest caved in as every muscle in her body froze. There was someone here, in the room. It would be more than ironic if a burglar had chosen this exact moment to break in. Haley broke out of her terror induced stupor and tripped over her computer chair in a rush to turn on the lights. Wasn't that how the stupid woman always died in the movies? New plan. Run for the door and don't look back.
She hurried toward the door, flicking on the lights on her way out. Chancing a glance over her shoulder what she saw almost stopped her in her tracks. There in the center of her bed crouched a man, naked from the waist up. Her jaw dropped and she stumbled over her own feet. She'd seen naked men before, but they were a poor imitation to the one currently staring at her. He crawled across to the edge of the bed and stood.
Oh my God. The skintight black pants he wore outlined a massive bulge. That could not be real. Saliva pooled in her mouth as her mind burned his image into her memory. The chances of her ever seeing such masculine perfection again were approximately zilch to none.
"Human. Did you summon me?" His question was full of righteous indignation.
This had to be a joke. It had to be. If it were possible to conjure a man up just for sex, every woman in her right mind would be doing it. No muss, no fuss, do the spell, do him then make him disappear.
"Did you summon me, human?"
"Tell me this is a joke. It just isn't possible." Her mouth went dry and her throat closed up.
"Why did you summon me, human?" His eyebrows slanted as his gaze turned threatening.
"I just read a stupid spell. I didn't think it would work." She inched her feet backward.
The man's head turned as he looked toward the candles surrounding him then to the rose lying in the center of the bed. "This looks like more than just a spell to me."
"I didn't think it would work," she repeated. Her voice was getting smaller and she was getting closer to getting the hell out of here.
"Well, obviously it did. Now tell me why I'm here so I can go home." Pissed was too mild a word to describe his tone. A muscle jumped up and down at the base of his jaw.
Haley swallowed but couldn't budge the lump in her throat. There was no way she was going anywhere near the guy. "I don't know..."
The man clenched his hands at his sides. "How about you read the spell to me then?"
She bit her lip. If she said the spell again she ran the risk of conjuring another male. And that was simply not acceptable. Definitely not acceptable. No way. No shape. No form.
"Human, I will not wait forever." He took a step away from the bed.
If he took one more step toward her she was out of here. Fuck trying to be subtle. The man moved to take another step but ran into an invisible wall. He stumbled back into the bed. Thank goodness she'd followed the spell to a tee. She hated to imagine what would've happened if she'd omitted that circle of salt.
"So, you took precautions did you?"
"Look, I'm sorry I called you. You can go home now." Concentrating hard, she just barely kept the tremor out of her voice.
"The magic does not work that way. I am stuck here until I fulfill the original request." Disgust flowed right alongside his anger now.
"Totally not necessary. You go away. I'll stay here. It's a win-win." Hell, she wasn't even horny anymore. Not really.

Spring 1990

"Hell, yeah!" Vic high-fived his partner in crime, then threw the keys to his Ford Mustang on the desk. He had a nice buzz going, and he didn't want the night to end. It had been a great birthday. Over the last two semesters, he'd become increasingly mesmerized by Raisin' Caine, his dorm mate. Caine was two years ahead of him at college, and his whole lifestyle was one big "fuck you" to the world. Vic wished he could be more like Caine, and tonight he'd gotten a big taste of that life. Caine had even let Vic borrow some of his clothes.
He watched Caine flop onto his unmade twin bed. Caine spoke, quietly, his voice gravelly from too much smoking and screaming. "It was a good night, eh, bonehead?"
"Fantastic." Vic licked his lower lip. The crack from where he'd been hit while moshing was still sore and bleeding. He smiled. "I had a kick ass time."
Caine's legs were long and lean as he stretched them out. Following the line of his tight blue and red plaid pants, he wore black combat boots with skull-shaped eyelets. His sleeveless shirt clung to his sweat-dampened chest and abdomen. He placed an arm above his head, and his other hand rubbed his stomach. Caine's head turned, his spiky, green-tinted mohawk rotating like a switch, until his pale green eyes met Vic's gaze. It embarrassed Vic that he'd been caught staring. He fixed his eyes to the wall above the bed.
Caine's side of the room was predominantly black, blue, and red. Worn and dirty posters covered the wall in a frenetic collage of The Ramones, New York Dolls, Suicide Commandos, Mad Sin, and several other punk bands. Vic had been raised on country and rock-n-roll -- the punk scene had never touched his small hometown. He'd been bred to be a quarterback, date the head cheerleader, make straight A's, and always do what his parents wanted. Vic's life had been a cliché from conception. Never in a thousand lifetimes would anyone believe he and Caine could be friends. But it didn't change the fact that they were.
"You look good, kid." Caine reached over to his nightstand and pulled a pack of cigarettes from the drawer. He flicked his lighter once and sucked as the flame brightened the end. Smoke drifted off the cherry, and trickled from Caine's small but full-lipped mouth. "I like you in my pants."
"I... I..." It dawned on Vic that Caine was making fun of him. He gestured to the ripped black jeans that were a size too tight, and a couple of inches too long. "Better on me than you."
"Fuck off with that," Caine said, laughing behind the words. He mimicked like he was going to flick the cigarette at Vic, and raised his eyebrows, his mouth turning up in a Billy Idol snarl.
Vic waved his hand in a "whatever" gesture and turned his back to Caine. He had to -- his cock had turned rock stiff, and as tight as the pants were, it would be hard for Caine to miss it. "You're an idiot." He unbuttoned the fly, determined to get the pants off, and some loose pajamas on instead.
They were tight over the hips, and he squirmed to get the back side down his ass. That's when Caine tackled him from behind.
"Gotcha!"
The move startled Vic. He fell forward, smacking his head on the side of his own bed rail, landing next to the bed facedown on the floor.
"You asshole," he yelled, touching the sore spot as it rose on his forehead.
Caine helped him onto his back. "Shit, dude. Damn, sorry. I was just messing around."
"You could've really hurt me."
Caine brushed Vic's short hair back. "You're not bleeding, but damn, that's going to be a helluva goose egg." He pushed on the bump.
Vic grimaced. "Stop that."
"Sorry." He leaned in for a closer look. Then unexpectedly, he pulled Vic's shirt down over his shoulder. "I still can't believe you got the tattoo. Your folks are going to shit."
"What they don't know..." Vic smiled, then grimaced. "Shit, my head hurts."
"Man, seriously, I didn't mean to hurt you." Caine's warm breath whispered across Vic's eyes. It smelled like tequila and tobacco, but not unpleasantly so.
"I'm fine. Really."
"Dude." Caine shook his head, and thumbed the edges of the wound. "You should get an ice pack on that thing."
Caine's lips were inches from Vic's. Vic felt his hands tremble as he raised his neck to move them nearer. He was scared. Shit, yeah. He was frightened as hell. He pulled back a little. Caine was still fixated on the rising knot. He had no idea how Vic felt. They were just two guys, roommates and friends.
"Fuck it," he mumbled. Closing the rest of the space, he placed a small kiss on Caine's lips.
His friend froze, except for his eyes. They shifted down to meet Vic's.
Vic scrambled for an apology. One that could make up for the line he'd just crossed. "Sorry, man." Inadequate, he knew. He gulped the thick saliva gathering in his mouth. "Really sorry. I... I didn't mean it."
Instead of shouting at Vic, or worse, punching him, Caine muttered, "Too bad."

Blurb:

After a nasty divorce, Emmaline St. James is ready to start a new chapter in her life. She moves into a new building and would be quite happy with her new digs if it weren't for her neighbors either side of her apartment.
One is Lucian Lucca, a tall, dark and brooding hunk, but when he smiles, he looks so devilishly wicked Emma would swear he sprouts demon wings. The other is Brennan Adair, also tall, mysterious but otherworldly handsome, and he makes her hot and horny each time he ogles her. Emma's new life would be perfect if it weren't for the fact that Lucian and Brennan are constantly bickering. So she invites them over to discuss their differences
Inviting a Demon of Lust over might not be a good idea when someone is lonely and emotionally vulnerable. And inviting a Fallen Angel is a recipe for disaster. Especially when the source of their bickering is Emma. Both Lucian and Brennan want her. Bad.

Chapter One

Emmaline St. James realized her dinner guests weren't human when the big bowl of spaghetti and meatballs flew from the table and crashed upward to the ceiling. She was pretty darn sure about it. How else could someone levitate an inanimate object with a flick of a finger unless he wasn't human? And besides, Lucian Lucca, Mr. Hot Guy and her next-door neighbor, wasn't like any man she'd ever met.
He fit the description of that tall, dark and handsome stranger cliché, and more. At almost seven feet tall with a body like a Greek god, and black, shoulder-length hair, Lucian looked like someone from the cover of a fitness magazine. He brooded a lot. But when he smiled, Lucian made her breathless. And horny. So horny that she couldn't resist masturbating every time she fantasized about him. No man she'd ever met had been able to make her blood boil like that. It was unnatural.
Brennan Adair was another story. He was her other next-door neighbor and Mr. Handsome. His beauty was so otherworldly, Emma was sure he could turn a straight man gay. She noticed how everybody gaped whenever he strolled by. Women went nuts about him. Almost every day, Emma saw someone lurking by his front door to slip a note for him or to leave him goodies. Brennan ignored all his admirers, but not her. He continually ogled her with a look that could melt arctic ice. He made her burn. Hot and horny as hell.
Having two hot hunks as her next-door neighbors wasn't something Emma would usually complain about. And since she moved into the Sunshine Tower eight weeks ago, Lucian and Brennan had always been nice to her. Too nice, in fact. It was just that they seemed to have a bone to pick with each other. They bickered. They were always at each other's throats and Emma worried she would go home one day and find a gruesome murder scene. That was why she'd decided to invite them over for dinner to discuss their problems. A good neighbor should do that, right? Well, her plan had backfired and Emma was now convinced the dinner party was a bad idea after all.
They'd started out nice and civil. They drank wine and enjoyed her cooking until Lucian and Brennan started to bicker again. It ended up with Lucian bolting from his seat and the bowl of her prized spaghetti and meatballs flying to the ceiling. It stayed there for a few seconds before coming crashing down to the table. Tomato sauce splattered everywhere. A big juicy meatball landed on her cleavage. Emma was so stunned, she couldn't find anything to say for a long moment.
"Holy shit." Emma finally found her voice, but she still couldn't believe what she had seen. "How did you do that?"
Brennan cut his gaze to her. "Look what you did, idiot. You made her dress dirty." He took a napkin to clean the sauce and the meatball from her.
"Don't touch her, you pervert. She's mine," Lucian barked.
I'm what? Emma was startled. Did he just say I was his?
Brennan ignored Lucian's threat and plucked the meatball from her chest. What he did caused Lucian to spew some very offensive curses. All of a sudden, the dessert plate with the neatly arranged tiramisu squares zoomed in Brennan's direction. Brennan waved his hand and everything on the table flew to the four winds. In a blink, her dining room was a mess, as if a tornado had paid a surprise visit.
Emma jumped from her chair and shrank to the wall when Brennan wanted to clean the sauce on her sleeve. "W-what are you?"
