Soundwave is a Super who can bring down any man with her voice alone. And she's going to make sure General Pane pays up. But Pane has a score of his own to settle...
Soundwave's sisters are searching the galaxy to find her. Mirage has spent her life hiding behind her power to create illusions, shielding her heart from pain. But when their search for Soundwave casts the sisters as unwilling participants in a mating ritual for manticores, illusions will do them little good.
For Mischief, growing up with the power to move objects with her mind has been both a blessing and a curse. But when the twin beasts from Yarthax break through her defenses she'll learn that handing over control could be her most thrilling adventure yet.
Jetstream's a Super who can manipulate water in some extreme ways. He's also an assassin for hire. His latest target, Domino, is almost his. The question is, once he catches her, will he ever be able to let her go?
This collection contains the previously released novellas Soundwave's Surrender, Mastering Mirage, Making Mischief, and Dominating Domino.

Domino pressed the button on her sleeve to open the dock doors of her ship. She stomped on board. Rank sewer water squished from her boots with each step. The nasty sludge from the sluggo she'd just blasted covered her from head to toe in glowing green goop. Who knew the large slug-like creatures would burst like fucking balloons?
She'd been so careful in tracking that bastard Jetstream. Had him cornered on this little backwater underground world until he decided to slip through the sewer system. No amount of money was going to make her follow him down that shithole. If that sluggo hadn't charged her, she would have been nice and dry, off this nasty rock and on to another job. Let someone else do the fucking dirty work.
It took two seconds to engage autopilot and ten minutes to pull off all her gear and put it in a cleaning tube. She turned on the shower. Thank goodness for the new shower system she'd installed. The water would wash away this gunk and then be recycled and cleansed so she could use it again. The latest technology. Expensive technology.
No amount of money was worth wading through other people's feces.
The scalding water streamed down from four different spouts above her and washed her from front to back. Splash after splash sounded in the shower as the clumps fell from her hair and hit the floor. She shuddered as slime slithered down her back and over her hips with the water. Reaching up, she turned the dial in front of her to the soap setting, and the hot water turned into a sudsy warm stream. She scrubbed her hair, her arms and every inch of her body until she could no longer smell the monster's innards on her.
So what now? If she didn't complete this contract she'd find the next one paying way fucking less. Not to mention she didn't think she was going to find the Clone Federation so eager to do business with her. She couldn't afford to get on their bad side. Hell, no one could.
She switched the dial for the water to a muscle relaxing massage setting and sucked in a deep breath. The water soothed her tired, strained muscles. She didn't really need the water. She could have made do with the standard issue sanitizer that most vessels had, but she found her body liked the water, craved the sensation of droplets running down her skin.
She moaned as the water worked the muscles in her arms, her legs, her ass, her breasts... wait a fucking minute. When had the water ever massaged her breasts like that? Before she could step out of the shower, she watched a stream of water reach up from the floor of the shower and rush right up to her pussy. It splashed against her hairless mound like a playful slap on her sex. The warm water pushed against her, opening her up until it rushed freely against her tight bud. It seemed to stroke up and down against her clit. Her entire body shook with need as her nerves tingled with the ecstasy just outside her grasp.
This isn't right. As the thought invaded her brain, she found herself impaled on an invisible cock. It rocked in and out of her at a dizzying speed. The muscles of her cunt grasped it. This isn't right. Her shower wasn't equipped with a water dildo. Water dildo? Her head immediately cleared.
Domino stepped away from the water and out of the almost rectangular glass closet. The instant she was no longer in the shower the automatic shut-off cut the water supply. She pulled in a shaky breath and saw the water collect, pool and form the outline of a man. Jetstream. "Bastard."
"We didn't even get to the good part yet." His deep voice sounded slightly distorted by the water, giving it a vibrating twang.

It was Friday night, and scantily-clad bodies writhed on the dance floor. Kayla moved to the pulsing rhythm, brushing against other dancers. She loved the decadent feel of skin. After a long week of little physical contact, she needed to touch. She looked up to the second level of the club. A man leaned against the railing, watching her. She needed to touch him.
His name was Maximus. Max to patrons. As far as she knew he had no last name. He didn't need one. Everyone knew who he was. What he was. The blood demon owned the club. He was wealthy, ancient, and powerful. No one messed with him.
She shouldn't mess with him either. She raised her hands, silently calling him to her. There was a flash of red in those demon black eyes. It could have been the strobe lights. Kayla fancied it to be desire. He slowly rolled up the sleeves of his black dress shirt, exposing muscular forearms. Her body vibrated with anticipation. He did that before he danced with her.
He never danced with anyone else. Kayla knew she was deluding herself by thinking that meant something. He was a demon. She was a mere human. He stomped down the stairs. Patrons scattered before him. He was large, looming head and shoulders over the average man. Those shoulders were impossibly wide, accentuating a trim waist.
He made his way through the crowd to her. Kayla resisted the urge to run to him. Instead, she danced, knowing he would come to her. That dark intent was etched into his face. Max wasn't pretty boy handsome. His face was too wide and his chin too square. He was power personified. Black hair fell over his forehead. Kayla's fingers itched to push it back.
A tall blonde danced in front of her, and Kayla lost sight of Max. All she saw were big breasts bouncing. She closed her eyes, blocking out her new view. She didn't have to see that. She didn't have to see him. She felt him approach. The tiny hairs on the back of her neck stood up. The music slowed to a throbbing primal beat. A big hand clasped her swaying hips.
That was what she needed. She needed Max's hands on her body. She leaned back into him, reaching up to wrap her fingers around the nape of his neck. His other hand slid under her halter top, his callused fingers rough against her stomach. She undulated against him, shamelessly brushing her ass against his crotch. He moved with her, pressing her into him. They were as one on the dance floor.
She lifted her chin and breathed in deeply. He smelled of expensive cologne and that distinctive scent that was all Max. That scent filled her body. They danced, lost in each other. Max's demon heat warmed her. He kissed and licked behind her ear. His fingers stroked an inch below her left breast, his touch making her pussy throb to the rhythm. It begged for release.
As if reading her thoughts, he turned her in his arms. This close, there was no mistaking his desire. His eyes glowed red. His jaw clenched. The throbbing in her pussy intensified.
He pulled her to him so she straddled his thigh, her short black skirt pulling up. Sweet heaven. She ground against him. He felt so good. His right hand was on her ass, his fingers cupping and squeezing. His left hand was between her breasts. Her breasts and legs quivered. She was going to come, right in the middle of the dance floor.
"Max," she cried out, her voice drowned out by the music. She clutched at his shoulders, frantic with feeling.
"Come for me, Kayla," he commanded. His voice, low and deep, reached down into her, pushing her toward pleasure. She was helpless to resist it.
The other dancers faded from her view. All she saw and felt and heard was him. He coaxed passion from her using ancient, crude-sounding words she did not know yet understood all the same. She rocked against him again and again, her fever building. She was burning.
"Max." She arched, sliding her pussy forward on his thigh, thrusting her breasts up. He bent his head, his hot mouth dragging along her curves, and she broke. The darkness of the club burst into the light of a thousand laser beams. She convulsed, shaking in his arms.

People who didn't live in the desert didn't understand how huge the moon looked, how fat and heavy, like a spotlight in the blackness.
Naomi wandered, the sand still sending heat up through her sandals, even as the wind chilled her, the temperature dropping like a stone in the water. Her bare arms goosepimpled up, the little white sundress no protection at all from the sudden threat of a storm.
God, she hated storms. Hated them -- so wild, loud. The thunder used to be enough to drive her into her closet, her daddy's soft laugh always coming to save her, rescue her.
Of course, you couldn't live like that, could you? No. God, that's why she'd moved to LA. Part of the reason. Because it had scared her, the thought of leaving everything had terrified...
She frowned, looking around, looking for a light, a house, a road. She'd wandered too far.
Warmth slid along her belly and grabbed her hip, soft air at her ear blowing away the illusion of her dream. "You're dreaming again, Naomi."
Tony's -- no, Harry's -- other hand slid through her hair, gently petting.
She gasped, the slide of her body on Harry's satin sheets bringing her all the way awake. Harry -- her smart, classy, gentle Harry -- was smiling at her, blinking slowly. "Sorry. I didn't mean to wake you."
"They're getting worse," he said softly. His short brown hair was sleep-tousled, flat on one side and standing up on the other.
"It was just a dream. Not a nightmare." Not that any of them were nightmares. Just... disturbing.
"A dream that wakes you up night after night. When was the last time you didn't have it?"
Harry got up, stretching, body hairless, muscles smooth and sculpted. He padded over to the gilt armoire and opened it, and then the little bar inside it, pouring a finger of scotch and bringing it over to her.
"It's nothing." He had the most precise, perfect hands. Surgeon's hands. Insanely talented hands. She took the drink, shuddering as she sipped it, as it burned all the way down.
Tony hated when she drank hard liquor, said she should only drink wine because it made her giggly, made her hot, made her...
God damn it.
Sitting down next to her, Harry traced a finger beneath one of her eyes. "Are you sure? I hate to see you looking so tired."
"You hate seeing imperfections in anyone." Harry wanted to fix her nose, her chin, her breasts, make her beautiful.
"Especially in you, darling." He took the glass from her fingers and finished the shot before kissing her, lips smooth and warm against her own.
She opened to him, pushed close, licking the scotch out of his lips. Oh. Yeah. Come on. She needed to forget, to lose herself. His tongue slid along hers, dancing together in his mouth. His hands moved her back, warming her skin as they passed.
She hummed, floating a little, nipples going tight as they rubbed against Harry's chest. Just like that, lover. Harry's fingers found the bundle of nerves at the base of her spine, playing them perfectly, bringing her skin alive.
"Oh. More." She arched, legs parting, sliding against Harry's, against the sheets. More.
"So sensual." He pushed her back against the sheets, hands moving around to slide up to her breasts, cupping them in those perfect hands.
Her nipples were tight, aching, needing him to touch her harder, make her feel it. His thumbs moved slowly, circling her nipples but not touching as his tongue slid along her neck.
Her hair came loose from its braid as her head tossed, bright red curls going everywhere. So gentle. Almost a tease. Tony had always pushed her, made her feel so much, almost too much, those dark eyes staring into her, artist's fingers painting her skin.
Finally, one thumb slid across her nipple, flicking, coming back to flick again and then pressing.
Naomi gasped, nodded. "Yes. Yes, just like that. Good."
"No, I think you like this better." Harry's mouth continued its downward journey, lips wrapping around one of her nipples and tugging.
Her fingers tangled in his hair, legs shifting and spreading as heat flooded her.
"God, you're so sexy."
She could feel the heat of his erection against her thigh, his hips rubbing against her.
"More. More, lover. Please." She reached down, fingers pushing between them, wrapping around his cock. Oh. Oh, she wanted.
Harry gasped and started fucking her hand. "Impatient." Still, one of his hands moved over her belly and down to tease over the shaved skin between her legs, shaved for him.
"Hungry." She pushed up, wanting his fingers on her clit, in her pussy, spreading her wide. "Just hungry."
"Always are after the dreams." He slid two fingers inside her, his thumb finding her clit, pressing hard before the touch softened, teased across the bundle of nerves over and over.
"Always am." She couldn't help it. The things she saw -- Tony bending her over the table and making her scream, Tony painting her nipples, flicking her clit with his brush...

The gentle chime of bells filled the air and mingled with the soft murmur of the crowd. Every once-in-awhile someone shouted in surprise and excitement as the telltale blare of trumpets heralded Jackpot for all to hear. Tana wove through the tables of the XanLax Resort, Spa and Hotel's dining area, allowing her serving platter to float ahead of her so she could concentrate on avoiding grabby hands.
"I'll be right with you, honey," she called out when a man raised his hand for service. "Hold on a second, sugars, your beer and cocktails are being mixed as we speak."
A wink here and a smile there helped avoid the shouting and angry swearing that usually followed a delay. Tana arrived at her destination unscathed and leaned down, allowing the side of her breast to brush against her patron's shoulder.
"Anything else I can get you, tiger?" She ignored the bolt of lust that shot straight to her core. Liquid heat pooled in her stomach, sliding down, dampening her panties. She said a silent thank you to the makers of her uniform for using the best patent leatherex money could buy. It was thin enough to feel the heat rolling off of the man in waves but didn't show the pebbling of her nipples.
He shifted in his seat. Steel gray eyes shot through with blue shards gazed up at her. A firm hand settled on her back, the weight not unwelcome. Lust coiled in her stomach as tingles of arousal shot through her pussy lips and down her thighs. She shifted slightly, hoping he wouldn't notice her response. The steady thrum of her heartbeat stuttered then increased as he stared at her, unabated heat revealed in his gaze. His eyes darkened to storm cloud gray. His hand moved down to trace the curve of her ass and stopped at the top of her thigh.
"You can allow me to take you home." His raspy, deep voice sent a heat flooding her body. She sucked in a breath as the world stopped for a moment. All she knew was his steely gaze and gruff voice.
Swallowing, she reached out a shaky hand to remove a wadded up napkin on his table before taking a step away from him. The pulse of heat didn't fade away with the small distance she put up. It only increased. His stare followed her movement, but he made no motion to push his chair toward her. Instead, he settled back with his body slumped in a relaxed pose. There was an energy there, just under the surface, like a predator ready to attack. He shifted again, turning more toward her.
Licking her lips, she answered him with as steady a tone as she could manage. "Sorry, tiger, my shift isn't over yet." She winked, ready to turn and leave this sexy temptation.
His voice stalled her. "What if I give you this?"
Biting her lip, she glanced over her shoulder and narrowed her eyes. He waved a hundred credit chip at her. Whirling around, hand on her hip, she glared at him.
Opening her mouth, ready to give him a scorching retort, he held up his hand stopping her. "We can use this to get dinner and I can buy you drinks. No sex, promise."
The desire in his eyes still burned in dark gray heat that warned her of danger ahead. Pressing her lips together, she weighed her options. Pick up his beer and dump it on him or get a free meal? Decisions, decisions. Tana reached out and snatched the chip. "You owe me and I damn well better get a full body massage, Devin Montano. And chocolate -- the good kind." She placed the chip onto her serving platter and turned to leave. A giggle bubbled up inside of her. She put a bit more sway into her walk, and felt the heat of his gaze following her every move.
When she reached the bar area and put in her order, she deliberately leaned forward on the bar. She was quite thankful that her uniform was a bit on the short side. Tana looked down at her skirt. It stopped at mid-thigh with a crisscross corset design on either side. The black material shone in the bright overhead light, making the contrasting red thread stand out even more. Then there was the zippered corset with openings on either side of her top, showing off her smooth, even cocoa skin. The low sweetheart neckline showed off a lot of cleavage but clung to her breasts to ensure there would be no clothing malfunction -- much to her and all the other female servers' relief. The thigh-high, lace-top, sheer black stockings were a bit much. The thick soled platform heels with the thin stiletto spikes made her feet hurt just looking at them, but Devin thought she was sexy in her server outfit. Occasionally, he insisted on a bit of role play while she wore it.
Tana didn't mind in the least. If she wore this outfit, he'd wear his leather pants for her or a mock-up of his military uniform. She turned around and placed her elbows on the counter behind her, surveying the tables. Her gaze landed on his table and she smiled. He was still looking at her. He ran a hand though his wild, thick wavy hair that fell to the base of his skull. A wily strand fell over his eye.
Her fingers itched to brush it away. She took in his features: sharp jaw shadowed by golden brown hair, his sensuous lips curled into a smile. The tip of his tongue flicked out, moistening his lips. She wanted to scrape the sensitive flesh with her teeth, to suck his lips until they were red.
Moving her gaze upward, she took in the rest of his face: a straight nose turned upward at the end, hooded gray eyes framed by golden brown lashes. A high forehead was hidden by hanks of hair which continued to fall into his gaze, causing him to push them back. Normally he'd have slicked his hair back into a low ponytail, but even then tendrils would still escape to frame his face.
"Tana, you're up." A nudge at her arm caused her to tear her gaze away and turn around, almost grumbling for the interruption.
"I know, honey, I know. As soon as your shift is over, you can take that delicious piece of man home and have your wicked way with him. For now, customers and tips await you." The bartender, Novak, pointed toward her section and made a shooing motion.
"I know. I know." Placing the drinks on her tray, she input the data on which tables to go to and followed along after it. Handing out the orders was easy. It was avoiding the groping that took a bit of athletic ability, especially in five inch heels.
She made her way back to Devin's table. "Anything else, tiger?" Tana hadn't meant to sound so tired, but she couldn't help it. Her feet and back hurt, and there was the start of a wicked headache over her right brow that made her wince. Another trumpet blast had her shutting her eyes and praying the slot machine would explode.
"Hey, hey, what's wrong? Migraine?" Devin reached out, stroking his thumb over the pulse point at her wrist. The gentle sweeping motion soothed her, but the contact had heat racing up her arm and slipping down the center of her body to her pussy. Gritting her teeth, she fought to focus on the last part of her evening before she could return to the oasis of their home. She picked up the chip and handed it back to him.
"Get us dinner to go. I want to finish this day and get a nice hot bath before I cuddle with you and finish reading my book." Tana bent down, not caring if she was giving the table behind her or anyone else a show. With a gentle kiss on the lips, she brushed his hair back and straightened up.
He traced his fingers up her forearm before letting go. "You got it." Devin grabbed her hand again, placed a kiss over her pulse point and pushed back his chair. He swiped his credit card and headed out to the main floor of the casino.
For a moment, she watched his ass. The tight muscular cheeks moved up and down in his worn jeans, the back pockets faded from much use. Heat curled in her stomach as her panties dampened. She imagined feeling the heat of his skin, her nails biting into the firm flesh, the scent of sex and sweat in the air. Her cunt contracted.
Shaking her head, she pulled away from the fantasy. Later, she thought, before picking up his bottle and moving away to gather the rest of the discarded glasses, napkins and bottles. By the time her shift was over and she'd finished clean-up, Tana was more than happy to go home.

The tiny apartment smelled like pot, partially washed male, and a little like something that had been left in the back of the refrigerator too long. Kayla tried not to wrinkle her nose; she could already see the poorly hidden trepidation on Jason's face as he led her into the living room. The coffee table had a pizza box and two empty takeout containers on it. Kayla idly wondered how long they'd been there. Daze on End had been on tour until last week, and Jason and Erik hadn't been home for any substantial amount of time for at least three months, as far as she knew.
"Well," said Jason, not quite meeting Kayla's eyes, "here it is."
Erik, not showing much in the way of trepidation at all, flopped onto the couch and dropped his feet on the coffee table. One of the takeout containers fell onto the floor.
"Home sweet home," he said, and tipped his head back and closed his eyes.
"Sorry it's a mess," Jason offered.
Kayla followed Jason into the bedroom, carrying her overnight bag. The smell here was rawer, muskier, and Kayla waited, unsure what to say as Jason hastily put down his own burden of luggage and pushed open a window.
"Really, God, I'm sorry. This place is a fucking mess."
Kayla set her bags gently on the floor. "It's okay, Jason. You haven't been home in ages. You're guys. It could be a lot worse."
She smiled, and was relieved when he gave her a sheepish smile back. "Yeah. Well. It's kind of always like this."
"I was giving you an out, honey. Take it."
Jason laughed, still sounding a little nervous, but better. Kayla stepped up to him and kissed him soundly on the mouth.
"One thing, though," she said, feeling him relax under her touch. "You are not fucking me on those sheets until they've been washed."

Zach pushed open the door to Rediscovered Books in downtown Boise. The shop was crowded, and most of the customers looked up when he walked in. Looked up, stared, with all of the feminine eyes, and a few of the masculine, dropping to his feet and slowly working their way up his muscular legs, flat belly, enormous chest and shoulders. He was used to it. It was his job.
A man on Saturday duty with the kids came over and offered a hand. "You're Zach Kelly, right? Minnesota Vikings? I'm a big Vikings fan."
Zach nodded and shook his hand, didn't say anything when a couple of little towheads in Seattle Seahawks T-shirts rushed over and clutched Daddy around the leg.
"Hey, would you sign their T-shirts?"
"Sure, be happy to." Zach had a Sharpie in his pocket. Wherever he went, people asked him to sign things, and he hated the scramble for a good pen. It was easier just to carry his own. He scrawled his name over the shoulders of the kid's T-shirts, and got a dirty look for his trouble from the little girl. She was about four, and he suspected Dad was going to get an earful about asking some giant to write on her little pink Seahawks tee.
When Zach straightened back up, he looked toward the cash register. Nonna had said Denny was working today, and Zach hoped he could just snag him and then split. He should have come the last hour before the bookstore closed. It would have been quieter then.
He recognized Denny right away. He looked just like himself, Zach thought, then grinned at his own foolishness. Denny was leaning over the counter, black curls and eyes so blue they made Zach smell salt water and tropical breezes. He was talking to a tall man leaning over the other side of the counter. The man was lanky, with golden-brown eyes and long brown hair curling over the collar of his vest. Zach frowned, studied him a bit closer. He was wearing old-fashioned clothes, tweed trousers and a full white shirt, with a brown tweed vest unbuttoned. He was rumpled and sleepy, sexy, and looked like he had just crawled out of a four-poster bed in some Merchant Ivory film. He turned around and looked at Zach, his eyes making the familiar up-and-down, and drawled, "Well, well, look what just walked in the door, Denny. Big balls and trouble."
Denny bit his lower lip to keep himself from laughing, then he straightened up and met Zach's eyes. "Can I help you?"
Denny didn't even recognize him? He reached into his pocket, pulled out the deep blue marble that was always there. He rolled it across the glass counter, watched color flush in Denny's cheeks. Denny picked it up, stared at the marble like it was going to tell his fortune. The other man leaned over, picked it up out of Denny's palm. "That's a pretty little marble."
Zach thought the affected drawl was a bit annoying. Denny took the marble back, handed it to Zach without a word. Zach stuck it in his pocket.
"Zach Kelly, this is Kendall Armitraiding. Kendall, this is my boyhood friend Zach. Our grandmothers were best friends. They lived next door to each other for more than forty years." Zach couldn't help but notice that Denny's voice wasn't very warm, and not particularly welcoming.
Kendall gave him a hand that was so faux-limp Zach was tempted to crush his bones. What an asshole.
"Let me guess. You played marbles together."
Zach ignored him, turned to Denny. "I'm staying with Nonna. She wants you home for dinner at six."
Kendall leaned back against the counter. "I think Denny and I have plans for tonight."
Denny put a hand on his shoulder. "Give me a rain check, Ken. I always come when my grandmother calls." His face had shaded with color when he turned to Zach. "Sorry I didn't recognize you. It's been a long time."
"Yes, it has. I'll see you later."
He pushed through the door of the shop, took a deep breath out on the sidewalk. He could hear Kendall's voice in his head. Big balls and trouble. Asshole. That boy didn't know the half of it.

The Other was here.
Lowering the truck window, Calla Dragos sniffed the chilly afternoon. Pine trees, asphalt. All overshadowed by the distinct stench of sulfur. Her stomach lurched, vileness rising to choke her. As she drove into the blink of a town, it grew stronger, overpowering all other senses.
Drawing closer to the Jasper Fire Department, she focused on keeping her clammy hands on the wheel, her concentration on the light traffic. Keeping her foot on the gas pedal, rather than slamming the brakes and fleeing.
How could he be here?
It was bad enough her job as an arson investigator brought her to this small, mountaintop town of Jasper, Arizona. Bad enough she'd left her family behind in the midst of yet another argument about her independence. The possibility of facing Eric brought tremors to her body.
Parking her cherry red pickup in front of the station, Calla shaded her eyes from the late afternoon sun and searched the colorful wood-front buildings. The stench faded.
Eric marked her, then fled. Like a coward. And he was a coward. She needed to remember that fact. Otherwise, the fear coiling in her heart would drive her batty.
After a couple deep breaths, she calmed the nausea a little. She could do this. She would do this. And if that bastard decided to show up, she'd face him with all her strength.
Calla stepped from the truck on shaky legs, smoothed her navy skirt and slipped on the matching jacket. Reaching across the seat, she grabbed her oversized black bag, which held a notebook, pens and her kit. After another soothing breath, filling her lungs with the crisp mountain air, she headed around the corner to the firemen's entrance.
Giggles drew her attention to a group of teenage girls scantily dressed. And the man they huddled near.
In nothing but low-slung jeans, the top button carelessly undone, the man gave off the rugged air of a male underwear model with a sexy, take me to your bedroom now look. His blond hair, slightly too long for a clean-cut look, dripped water, from a recent shower maybe. Or a drenching with the hose. The scruff on his chin, a shade darker than his hair, enhanced the bad boy aura.
Gods, he was just like Petey. Playboy and chick magnet, an older version of her youngest brother.
"So can we have your autograph? Please?" one of the girls begged, her voice high. The other girls giggled some more.
"Certainly, ladies." The man's voice was as smoky and smooth as his gray eyes.
His gaze flicked to Calla. The intensity shooting from his eyes made her tense, caught like a rabbit in the headlights. His lips twitched. A flush spread up her cheeks. Calla stared at her feet, hurrying along the flower-bordered sidewalk. Before she reached the door, the teen girls filed past, happily waving calendars with mostly naked men.
Figured. A playboy, just like Petey. Which month was he?
Bare feet filled her view. She took in the long, jean-clad legs, the scruff of hair above the gaping waistband. A blond trail led up a golden, ripped abdomen and chest, to dark eyes. This close, flecks of green and blue mixing with the gray were visible.
His scent, suntan lotion and hay, punched into her, dissipating the last remains of the sulfur.
Her libido woke and started clamoring. She gritted her teeth. Not why she was here. And besides, she had no business being attracted to this man. This human.
"Howdy, ma'am." He tipped an imaginary hat, a lusty smile twitching at his lips.
"Excuse me," she replied, her voice steady and cool, the payoff from years of practice working around other untouchable hunks. "I need to see the fire chief."
Something unreadable flashed in his gaze and the smirk disappeared. "What would a beautiful woman like you want with him?"
"Frankly, it's none of your business." Knowing the best way to turn him off, she put a hand to her hip, jutted her chin and raked her gaze over his long, lean form. Unfortunately, her normal barriers weren't working. The only thing she wanted to do was reach out and touch his glistening tanned skin. Instead, she added in a sharp tone, "Let me guess. Mr. October."
His face hardened, all amusement fleeing. The playboy took a step back as if she'd actually offended him. Then, his grin came back, along with a devil-may-care shrug. "Actually," he drawled, "I'm December. I wanted a Santa hat on my lap, not a pumpkin." Leaning closer, his minty breath a whisper on her cheek, he added, "Why? You need a calendar?"
A shiver worked its way down the back of her neck. With a dry mouth and fluttering stomach, Calla strode past him and pushed into the icy air of the building. His stare burned into her back. She welcomed the cool relief when the door snicked closed. Without pausing to lean against the wall for support, Calla straightened and forced her feet to move.
A typical fire station layout confronted her. She headed down a short hall with two doors, one most likely to the truck bay. The tan walls led into a kitchen/living room combo. Crossing around beat up furniture that should have been relegated to the dump many years ago, she entered the hallway on the far side of the room.
With her luck, she'd end up running into one of the bedrooms and another half-naked hunk before finding the chief's office.
An older man stepped out of the first door, blocking her way. Faded brown eyes widened when he spied her. "I'm sorry, miss. You can't be in here."
Calla slipped her ID from her jacket pocket. "Calla Dragos. Arson investigator. Your department called me."
Smiling broadly, face wrinkling, the old man nodded. "Good, good. I didn't know such purty young things were in the business nowadays."
"Um. Thanks." She nibbled her lip. Did all the men in this town flirt so shamelessly?
"Well," he said, taking her hand in his bear-like grip. "Come along. Chief's office is just down here."
"You're not the chief?"
He slapped his leg, chuckling. "Ah, no, miss. I'm surely not. I'm Fred. Call me the mascot, though I don't have no spots or tail."
She followed him to the last door on the left and entered behind Fred, into an empty, disorganized office. Paperwork spread haphazardly across the desk. Books lay piled on the windowsill. At least the place seemed clean, just scattered.
"Guess the chief's outside. I'll go get him for you." Fred hurried out.
Stepping lightly, she pushed a chair from the desk and sat down, hands itching to straighten some of the piles.
The door creaked open as Fred peeked back in. "Sorry. You want anything to drink?"
Calla smiled at the man's simple spirit. "No, thank you. Just the chief."
Fred nodded as he disappeared once more.
She wrote a heading on the page with the date and time, then glanced around the office, impatient to get started. With Eric in town, she needed the details of the four fires. Gods, she hoped she was wrong and it wasn't him. But she had to find out for sure, before something happened beyond buildings destroyed. For her, the past was all too clear on everything that could be taken away, things unable to be rebuilt.
He hadn't bothered her family recently. Well, as far as she knew. Being one of the few women in a houseful of overprotective males, she rarely heard anything directly. No matter how much she grumbled and complained.
But why come to this small town and stir up trouble? He couldn't have been sure she'd be sent.
Nerves stretched taut, Calla set her notepad precariously on the desk, then strode to the window, needing the calming heat of the sunlight to soothe her. Weak rays fell over her face and arms, warm enough to push the ball of ice from her chest.
A minute later, a creak came from the hall. Calla hurried back to her chair. Her hip bumped the desk and a picture frame teetered. She grabbed it before it crashed to the floor. As she reached to put it back, the picture caught her attention.
She groaned silently as the smiling face of the playboy stared at her, young blonde girls plastered to either side of him.

She was frozen like a rabbit trapped by a coyote and rooted to the spot in fear, watching him climb on the bed. "Do you mean to... bite me?"
"No." He wanted her body. It would alleviate half of his pain anyway, help assuage his lust for her blood. Maddox didn't touch her. Instead, he stretched out in the middle of the bed, kicking off his shoes.
"What are you doing?" she asked, clearly surprised.
"Allowing you to satisfy your curiosity," he offered, wanting to make her feel less vulnerable. "Do what you want, Madeline."
It was hard not to laugh at the wide-eyed way she stared at him. But soon enough understanding chased away the clouds of confusion in her beautiful amethyst eyes. The mask was slowly sliding back into place.
And even though he knew she'd do something, get him off somehow because he was her new employer, his body was as tight as a bow. Anticipation left him excited in a way he'd forgotten. How long had it been since he'd wanted something as much as blood? More? Had he ever?
Madeline proceeded just as he knew she would. Like in a favorite dream, he watched her settle herself on her knees at his side. Her slender white hands hovered over him tentatively, like she was getting ready to pet that same poisonous snake but wasn't sure she should. He watched her throat work as she swallowed hard.
It took everything he had to stay still, not to pull her into his arms. He'd mean to comfort her but he'd just frighten her more. It wasn't a good place to start. He'd tucked his own hands behind his head, wanting to be as non-threatening as he could be.
After her moment of nervous hesitation, her hands lowered to his chest and a jolt of excitement like nothing he'd experienced outside of blood shot through him. Her fingers clutched lightly at the fabric of his shirt, gently probing the hard skin beneath.
Her gaze darted to his face in surprise. "You're... warm," she whispered. "I thought..."
Maddox nodded. "I fed, so I'm warm for now." Then he realized he might want to explain that. "No humans died. No worries. I'll explain it all one day when you're... ready."
She swallowed hard again. Her hands trembled. But they moved up his chest until they found the buttons at the top of his black shirt and slowly began to undo them.
Maddox's breath caught, and he didn't have to breathe, as she efficiently undid all of the buttons, her fingers swirling against his skin with feather soft touches. When she undid the top of his slacks and pulled down the zipper, it felt like it would destroy him to stay still.
Her fingers slid into his slacks, finding no other barrier, and wrapped around his cock like open flame. Damn! He'd forgotten how warm a human woman's touch felt, particularly on that part of his body. It was hot, soft, indescribable when she pulled him free of the slacks and began to caress him with both hands.
"Do you like this?" she whispered.
Was she kidding?

It's been a while and I've missed you! I want to tell you about Winning Madeline, my latest story, and hope that you'll give it a try. It picks up where Rick and Julia's story in Taking Julia left off. This is the story of Rick's friend, and fellow vampire, Maddox. Maddox is trying to help Rick protect Julia, trying to keep her kind, the werewolves, from unearthing the secret of the dark cult destroying the human race, AND he's trying to win the heart of a very special human beauty named Madeline. Yeah, his plate is pretty full. LOL I hope you like the first chapter. =)
Also, did you know the human cult I reference in The Shadow Zone series is the same cult from Dark Legion? (Originally, Legion: University and Legion: Adult Education). Those stories take place in modern times. BUT, if you read them, did you ever wonder what happened to Joey Summers? I'll let you know in an upcoming installment of The Shadow Zone. For now I hope you enjoy Maddox and Madeline's story. Look for them also in a Christmas short coming in December from Changeling Press - Sugarplum: Christmas in the Zone More to come on that...
Thank you!

Flicking back to the home page, Isa scanned the list again. A selection called Dark Ecstasy piqued her interest.
Experience ecstasy with a secret human partner who seeks a similar adventure. Revel in the mysteries of the flesh, enhance and satisfy your desires for only five hundred credits. Anonymity guaranteed.
After her promotion from the rank and file, Isa had chosen pleasure bots over human sex partners. Her focus firmly on her career, she hadn't made love to a man in five years.
Real sex, with a man!
Heat coiled in Isa's middle. Five hundred credits would make a serious dent in her account, but she'd grown weary of machines. She wanted the caress of human hands and lips upon her flesh. She needed to experience a real kiss. She ached for the feel of hot skin slick with perspiration sliding against hers. The thought of powerful hips thrusting, driving a human cock deep inside her hot flesh consumed her thoughts.
Her hand hovered above the accept button. Real sex. Isa pressed her palm against the screen. Within seconds her request had been processed.
A new screen asked for her preferences such as height, weight and age, but did not request eye or hair color. Another screen gave her a delicious list of pleasures.
Gulping down most of her drink, Isa chose kissing, oral and manual stimulation, and several positions she enjoyed. A male bot, dressed in a black skinsuit, approached her. Noticing the obvious bulge of his groin, Isa figured he must also work as a pleasure bot. His blond hair fell in waves down to his shoulders.
"My name is Dar," he said, focusing his sultry brown eyes upon her. He offered his arm. "I am your pleasure guide."
Wondering whom Dar was modeled after, Isa placed her hand on the bot's arm. He escorted her out of the main lounge and into a corridor. Stopping before an unmarked door, Dar placed his palm against a panel. The door slid to the right.
"This is the preparation room," Dar explained as the door slid closed. "Are you familiar with the process?"
"This is my first time."
He crossed the room and opened another door. "Please undress and step inside. A brief scan is required. The door will open automatically when the scan is completed."
Isa undressed and stepped inside the closet-like space. The door sealed with a hiss. A series of soft-green light bands encircled her from head to toe. As the light bands shifted from dull to bright, her whole body began to throb as if someone had waved a sensual wand over her. Her heart rate jumped. Just about the time she'd really started enjoying the scan, the door opened.
Dar held a white robe. "How do you feel?"
Her heart racing, Isa slipped into the robe. "Excited."
"Club Xs guarantees pleasure. As the light bands process your image, your body is given pleasure pulses. Please, join me at the bar."
Isa took a seat upon a lone stool before a small crescent-shaped bar. Dar stepped behind the bar and placed a tall, slender glass on the gleaming metal surface. Behind him the wall was filled with bottles in a dazzling array of colors.
"After drinking a luminous dye, you will join a pleasure partner. The dye allows you to see your partner's form and size, and for him to see you, but facial features, skin tone, hair color are obscured. What color would you like?"
"Color?"
"The luminous dye. Your skin will radiate the color of your choice. I like the color of your outfit. It complements your eyes."
Bots were programmed to flatter. Isa glanced at her loose purple blouse, black pants and slippers. Given her limited civilian wardrobe she'd chosen the bright blouse in an effort to blend in with the club's patrons.
"Purple is fine."
The shelves behind the bar shifted. Before her were bottles in the palest shade of amethyst to brilliant purple. "What shade do you prefer?"
Isa pointed to a bottle.
"Lilac." Plucking the bottle off the shelf, Dar filled her glass with clear liquid.
"The meeting chamber is devoid of light. You and your partner will --"
"Glow in the dark?"
Dar blinked and smiled. The more expensive bots were programmed to blink rather than stare. "Yes. Think of it as an aura. You will have full tactile sensations, but the aura distorts the features. You could walk past your partner tomorrow and never recognize him."

"While the two of you were sleeping, I listened to the guards speaking with the women across the way." Susan gave me a cruel smile. "They made them strip and then looked them over like cattle. Some are being forced into prostitution."
"What?" I stared at her, stunned by her words. How could she remain so calm about it? Terror gripped me and my insides turned to ice.
"It seems the men on this planet are very virile and need to have sex on a daily basis. The few mates they have can't handle it, so the men go elsewhere for their entertainment."
"Do we have any other options?"
She shrugged a shoulder. "If you're lucky, one of the males will want you to himself. Either way, you're going to spend the rest of your life on your back."
I fought down the nausea that welled inside me. The idea of being someone's whore revolted me. I'd dated precious few men in my life, and none had sparked enough of my interest for me to have a sexual relationship with them. Yes, at the age of twenty-three I was still a virgin. To know I would lose my virginity to a savage from another planet, that I would no longer have any say over my life, was a blow to my mind and my heart.
Enid whimpered. "I won't survive."
I hunkered down beside her. "Yes, you will. We all will, even if it isn't a pleasant existence."
She shook her head. "You don't understand. I can't stand to be touched."
The fear in her eyes suddenly made sense. She knew what was to come, what we faced. If she couldn't stand to be touched, it was possible she would die at the hands of our captors. I doubted they would be caring enough to soothe her fears and ease her mind. The monsters would probably take what they wanted no matter the consequence to the young woman.
"Maybe they'll understand," I offered, knowing it was a lie. I wasn't sure what would become of her, but I knew it wouldn't be pleasant.
A metal door clanged open at the end of the hall and heavy footfalls sounded down the corridor. A guard with three men stopped in front of our cell. The men looked us over, as if deciding whether we were worth their time.
The tallest of the group had shaggy golden brown hair and turquoise eyes, an athletic build and golden brown skin, as if he had been working in the sun. On Earth, he would have passed for a model or actor. The second man was a little shorter but just as fit, with chocolate-colored hair and eyes the brilliant orange of a sunset. The last man left me feeling cold. Tall with a swimmer's build, his long black hair and violet eyes were striking, but he had a hardness to him that bespoke of cruelty. I fervently hoped he didn't select Enid, but I didn't want him to select me either. Honestly, I didn't want any of them; I just wanted to go home.
The guard opened the cell and gestured for us to line up along the back wall. The chocolate-haired man followed him, eyeing each of us from our head to our toes. When he stopped in front of Susan, he leered at her and reached out to fondle her breasts. Appearing to be satisfied, he shoved her to her knees and unfastened his pants. His thick, hard cock sprang free. "Suck me," he commanded.
Licking her lips, Susan did as he bade without the slightest hesitation. In appalled fascination, I saw her mouth move over him, heard the sounds of her sucking and licking him. He grabbed a handful of her hair and forced himself further into her mouth. I was unable to tear my eyes away as he ejaculated and told her to swallow every drop. Even more horrifying, she seemed to enjoy it.
Lowering my head, I gazed at the floor. Was that what would be expected of me? My heart was beating wildly in my chest and bile rose up in my throat. While Susan hadn't seemed to mind the act, I wasn't sure it was something I would be able to do.
The man refastened his pants and helped Susan to her feet. Grasping her arm, he faced the guard. "This one is mine."
The guard turned his attention to Susan. "Is that what you want? Or would you prefer a life serving many?"
"I'll go with him."
The guard nodded and motioned for them to leave the cell. Next, he allowed the black-haired man to enter. He stopped in front of me first, but dismissed me quickly enough. Stopping in front of Enid, he reached out to touch her red hair. When she recoiled, he stopped and his hand dropped back to his side.
"Why do you flinch away from me?" he asked in his cool, clipped voice.
She stared at him with frightened eyes and opened her mouth, but fear kept her from responding.
"She doesn't like to be touched, by anyone," I answered softly, hoping he wouldn't punish her for keeping silent or me for speaking out of turn.
The man's gaze never strayed from her face. Slowly, he moved closer, watching as her chest began to rise and fall rapidly ands the color seeped from her face. When she fainted, he caught her in his arms. "I'm taking this one," he told the guard and headed for the door with long strides.
"Bastian, you know you're supposed to give her a choice."
He gave the guard a cold look. "She fainted when I was still inches away from her. How do you think she'd react in a room full of men?"
The guard let them leave without another comment, obviously deciding Bastian was the lesser of two evils. For Enid's sake, I hoped he was right.
I was the only prisoner left, and there was only one man.
"Thale, you'll have to take this one or wait until next week to see some others. Assuming she wants to go with you."
The man called Thale stepped into the small space, stopping when he was a mere inch from me. With gentle hands, he traced the contours of my face and neck. Gripping my dress, he ripped it in half, exposing me.
I gasped and tried to cover myself, but to no avail. He pushed my hands out of the way and spread the dress open. As his warm hands caressed my breasts, I felt my nipples harden. I was embarrassed that my body responded to him when my mind was screaming for him to stop.
He fingered my long dark hair. There was something in the turquoise depths of his eyes I didn't quite understand, but I had a feeling I would soon. Whether I wanted to go with him or not, I knew the other option wasn't possible for me.
"I'll take her."
The guard looked at me expectantly and I knew he wanted my confirmation.
"Yes, I'll go with him."
Thale swung me into his arms and carried me from the cell. With long, determined strides, he carried me from the prison and out into the light.
I closed my eyes, the brightness of their planet's two suns too much for me after being in the darkness of the prison. Trying to force myself to relax, I laid my head on his shoulder. It was better to accept my fate than to fight.

Most folks don't think a woman, especially one who's just turned forty, can make a go of it working a small ranch by herself on an agri-moon. A strong, independent woman, Lainey plans to prove them wrong.
A pair of shapeshifting wolves seem to have adopted Lainey's new farm as their home. Though wild, winning their favor is considered to be lucky. They have a sense of sexuality that other women would pay anything to taste.
And they've chosen her.
Gifted with the experience that comes with maturity, Lainey has no plans to abandon sensual pleasures. She's tough enough to win the wolves' respect, sensually rich enough to pique their tastes, and she's hungry for the love of men who can not only match but overcome her.
Lainey's not crying wolf. She's crying "God, yes, harder!"

Lainey closed her eyes and lifted her face toward the sun. Had any sun on any world ever felt so fine? She thought not. Leman's sun caressed her skin as gently as an accomplished lover, but it was no weakling. Its rays burnished the world brown, carried forward over fields of gold in heated breaths of wind that reminded her of hot kisses traced down her body.
A fine world to live in. She'd like it here.
"It hits us all that way at first," Rosemary remarked. Lainey could hear the smile in her voice. "Don't ever get used to it. Then it'll lose most of its charm."
Lainey let her eyes drift open and let out a soft breath of satiated desires. She gazed across the gold and brown of the fields and unpaved roads, the green tops of trees already afire with the reds and golds of autumn. It was only natural to take her hat off and rest it not over her heart, but her hip, as a woman of her professional background might in a sign of respect.
"I don't ever plan to take this for granted," she said. She wished she could strip naked in the sensual warmth of this world and stretch herself out in the grass to let it saturate her through and through.
Rosemary chuckled; she had an infectious laugh and she was around the same age as Lainey. They'd probably led the same kinds of lives before they came here, to the world no man wanted and every woman dreamed of. Any woman with any sense, that was.
"Good," Rosemary said. "Let me check once more to be sure..." Proprietress of the small mercantile that was the only place one could buy supplies without traveling a few hundred kilometers in any direction -- not that that bothered Lainey -- she indicated they should get back to business by removing the stylus she'd tucked behind her ear and pointing it at her digital slate.
Lainey knew as well as Rosemary what she'd need and wouldn't need and that she hadn't forgotten a single thing on that list, but no harm in letting the woman do her job. She stood by with her hat at her hip, half-daydreaming through the double-check. "I have gold, not credits," she reminded Rosemary.
"Good. Gold spends; credits are almost worthless out here." Rosemary patted the side of the wagon. "Right, then. I'll go total up your bill."
Politeness, that. Lainey watched Rosemary retreat inside the mercantile and approved of it. She'd have the bill already totted up on her tablet, of course, but it would have been bad manners indeed to stand by and watch a lady retrieve her money from its hiding place. Even if she likely already knew where that'd be after packing the sturdy farm wagon with everything from seeds to vegetable growth supplements to pitchforks and a tin washtub big enough for Lainey to stretch out in.
Homesteading on a new frontier or not, Lainey was stubborn enough and fond enough of her few creature comforts that she'd no plans to give up any time soon.
Though Lainey liked Rosemary just fine, she was glad enough to have the peace and quiet back to herself for a moment. She extended her arms wide, as if she'd embrace the heat from the sun, and let the golden light wash down over her, better than rain.
A slight scuffing sound broke the silence that'd fallen. Not much of a noise, but Lainey's ears were sharp and some training lasted throughout a lifetime. She could tell even without looking that whoever had come visiting wasn't Rosemary, nor any of the other women settlers she had a nodding acquaintance with.
No, this was a Man. Lainey could smell the musk, wilder than most of the polished rich boys she'd dealt with once as mistress and madam in turn, before selling off all that hubris and heading out here to make her way, by her choice.
Not just a man, Lainey's senses told her. A strong man, one who walked with the confidence of a fellow who had no fear of anything, but who stopped far enough away to show her he meant no harm. And -- she cocked her head, intrigued -- another man, not far behind him.
She wasn't afraid of them; they'd given her no reason. Lainey let her eyes drift open and got her first look at this pair from between the sweeping curtain of her eyelashes.
Oh my. Lainey's skin heated from more than the baking warmth of the planet. These were a fine pair to look at, weren't they? One tall and rangy, dark hair clinging to his forehead, cheeks and nape; the other slighter and fairer and springier of step. Both had smiles broad and white enough to rival the sun and the moons, and stood close enough to reach out and touch if she wanted. Teasing her, just a little, by being that close and no closer.
There were no men this far West, not that Lainey knew of. Some fishermen still lived along the coastlines, but not one man who'd come inland to ranch or farm had managed to stay. Bully boys, most of those, or so she'd heard, and it seemed like the land had taken objection to them. Might be a story made up to scare folks, might not be, but for whatever reason, the men had left these prime ranch lands. Left them for women fool enough to try to tame them. And try they had. Leman liked women. Liked them fine. Her sun and moons were kind to the ladies, and they treated her as best as they could in return.
But one look at this pair and Lainey knew down in her gut that while this planet might be kind to the female strangers who'd colonized her... it loved these men without rhyme or reason. They were the sun and moons, somehow.
Lainey couldn't help smiling at that pair. Five seconds' worth of acquaintance or not, they brought it out in her. "Now if you aren't a treat," she said. "Something I can help you with?"
The men glanced at one another, communicating silently in the way long-time friends sometimes developed. A quirk of the eyebrow and the tilt of a wicked grin spoke volumes.
Laughing, the taller jostled the smaller aside. He had a strange laugh, one that made Lainey sit up and take notice. Something between a rumble and a ruff, ruff, ruff. Not unpleasant to hear, Lord no. Quite the contrary. Gave her a pleasant sensation of warmth in her belly not unlike the sun on her skin. It belonged here, same as they did even if they weren't supposed to.
Curiouser and curiouser.
"Need help?" the taller asked, gesturing toward Lainey's loaded wagon. "I Asher. No. I... am, yes, I am Asher. He is Russ. You have long road back to cabin. We help you."
Lainey's eyebrows lifted, despite her years of training. Not supposed to be here and didn't speak the language? Call her intrigued, yes ma'am.
And... they knew where she lived. Lainey figured she ought to be more alarmed about that, but so help her, she couldn't be. She didn't believe these two would hurt her, but if they tried? She had a rifle in the wagon, and she knew how to use it.
The taller took one half-step closer, his shorter companion jostling him in play as he followed. "Help with more than this," the tall man murmured. He reached to touch her face, taking clear care not to startle her but not about to be denied. His fingertips were rough, as tough as paw pads, but his touch was gentle. Almost worshipful.
Lainey's lips parted. So help her if she didn't want to promise them anything for the pleasure of their company. It made her laugh. The shoe was on the other foot now, wasn't it? Good thing for her she liked the fit of it just fine.

A scuffling sound at the opposite end of the alleyway caught his attention. He spun on his heels just in time to see a man carrying someone. The growls alerted him -- the dogs were back -- and instantly, they attacked the stranger. He dropped the body against the dumpster when the animals pounced on him. Bloodcurdling screams echoed through the quiet night. Victoria was beside him in a flash, and with her fingers in her mouth, she sounded a sharp whistle.
The dogs released their catch and swung in their direction, growling. Baring their canines, a course of howls followed before they retreated back into the street. The man scrambled to his feet and limped off behind them.
Wade broke into a run, pursuing the injured stranger. He passed the body sprawled in the filth. A woman.
"Oh, my God! Jetta. Damn it, I told you this was going to happen." Stopping at the mouth of the alley, he glanced back and watched Victoria flop down beside the unconscious body. "Let him go, Wade, help me."
He was unable to change into his shepherd in front of Victoria, and it was unlikely at this hour in the morning that anyone else would stop the felon. He wouldn't forget the man's odor.
Wade's attention became riveted to the body slumped against the wall. His nostrils flared at the familiar scent dancing around his head but he couldn't place it.
Victoria ripped a piece of the lady's shirt and attempted to clean her face. His nostrils flared wider when the smell wafted up his nose. Elegant Escorts.
This woman was the proprietor of the business he used to procure the women who met his needs. Wade had never seen the owner, but her scent surrounded her office and it had always enticed him. What was she doing beat-up in an alley, and how the hell did Victoria Germaine know her? Shit, this could turn out to be a real mess. "I got her." Wade bent down and lifted her gingerly. "Lead the way to your place."
Partway down the alley, she winced and her body bowed out of his arms. Her shirt was now torn, but there wasn't much blood and there were no visible injuries. Her fists, balled in tight knots, pressed against her stomach. Trying hard not to jostle her, he lengthened his steps, hoping they didn't have far to go.
Her hair was dark and hung past her shoulders. Pale skin revealed she didn't spend much time in the sun. Her nose turned up at the tip, giving her a young, soft look. Tears stained her rounded cheeks, and he noticed a slight swelling on the left side of her jaw.
Wade couldn't help staring at her breasts since they were only partially covered by the ripped shirt. Where was the blood coming from?
The hiss of air drew his attention. Her eyes were open. Hazel green flecked with gold. Beautiful. They stretched wide with fear. A scream full of terror barreled past her lips and into the night air. He cringed at the high pitch, his gut tightening at the sound.
"You're safe." He tilted her so she could see Victoria. The scream withered away but she struggled in his arms. Wade was at a loss on how to deal with her.
"Hurry," Victoria yelled back as she rounded the corner a few feet in front of him.
Slowing his step, he whispered in the woman's ear, "Shh, no one will ever hurt you again." He stroked his tongue over her brow and down her cheek. He swept it over her lips, and his heart bumped against his rib cage. That was his shepherd. Dogs enjoyed tasting and lapping their bodies, and anyone else's.
God only knows why, but it quieted Jetta. Dark eyelashes fluttered to her cheeks and her breathing slowed. She'd passed out again.
"I'll find that bastard and tear his hands off for daring to touch you." Energy zinged through his limbs, making him move faster. Wade didn't understand what was happening, but he knew one thing. He meant every word.
