With the threat of mages capturing and imprisoning her, Ryver can never go home again. That's fine by her, since she's with Theron the vampire she loves. Now living in vampire territory, she's learning more and more about Theron. Not all of it is good. The more she sees, the more she's convinced that the man she fell in love with, the man who can make her body sing with a single touch, might not be the man she thought he was. What's worse, there's no way to get away from him if he's as bad as she suspects.

Ryver could see her reflection in the gleaming marble floor beneath her feet. She usually liked to show off her dimples with a winning smile that made her dark brown eyes sparkle. At the moment, her expression was one of her muted disbelief edged with terror.
Her black, heat-straightened hair fell over her shoulders and acted like a curtain, hiding her from the view of those standing around. That was a good thing because the blood leaving her face made her normally chestnut brown skin look ashen. Even wearing her charcoal, pinstriped blouse with matching calf-length skirt didn't make her feel appropriately dressed enough to be standing in this grand house.
To her knowledge, she had never seen marble flooring before. Not real marble. She'd seen laminate and tile made to look like marble, but not the real thing. No place she shopped could afford to carry such high-end merchandise.
Everything in the mansion -- from the gold-etched archways to the crystal chandeliers dangling high above her head -- looked custom made. Theron hadn't struck her as such an extravagant man. But then what did she really know about him?
It wasn't like they'd done much talking over the past month. He had pretended to be under the spell of a docility charm during the day, obeying her every command and being the perfect helper. At night, he turned into a very attentive and vigorous lover.
Their schedule hadn't left much room for talking or else she might have learned that he was nobility of some kind. She could only guess he was nobility since the twenty or so vampires kneeling at his feet with their heads bowed had called him lord.
She looked around at the circle of vampires surrounding her and Theron. Each had dropped to one knee in greeting once she and Theron arrived. Ryver hadn't been expecting such a reception.
She hadn't been expecting any reception at all. But, what had she expected when she agreed to let Theron whisk her away to vampire territory?
It was stupid and risky. She'd been swept up in the moment and not thinking right. She had to get Theron to take her home. Even if the mages were waiting to arrest her, she could tell them Theron had her under some kind of spell and that's why she had lied to them.
Vampires knew hypnosis, right? She'd heard something to that effect from somewhere. Even if she hadn't, Theron had used some sort of magic to teleport them to his home in a matter of seconds. If he could do that, then surely he could hypnotize people.
It struck her as odd and scary that her convenient excuse sounded genuine.
Could he have hypnotized her into doing what he wanted? It would explain why she had been so reluctant to obey the mandatory recall sent out to all vampire owners and return Theron to the mages. The sex was good, but getting laid wasn't worth her safety.
She looked up at Theron. Since her head only reached his shoulders, that meant tilting her head back. As usual, her gaze went to his goatee first. It was perfectly trimmed into a ninety-degree angled black box around his mouth and chin. Since a vampire's appearance didn't change from the moment they became a vampire, Theron's goatee would always appear perfectly trimmed. Even if it was cut off, it would grow back exactly the same in a matter of seconds.
That also meant he didn't have to work out to keep his lightly tanned, muscled body looking so perfect. With his black hair falling around his shoulders in soft waves, he looked like he should be on the cover of a men's magazine -- fashion or athletics didn't matter, since he could do both with ease.
She was too plain to be standing next to him. She kept herself in a size eight by exercising fanatically and watching her diet. What did a man who looked as good as him want with her?
Theron smiled down at her, showing his fangs in the process. "There's no need to be so scared, Ryver. No one will hurt you."
He cupped the side of her head and brushed his thumb over her cheek. His hand cradled her entire head, reinforcing the height and strength difference between them. And she, like an idiot, had let him bring her into a nest of people who could break her into tiny pieces with one hand and no effort.
She said in a small voice, "I should go back to my place."
"You aren't safe there..."

"They have got to be friggin' kidding me. There's no way I'm setting foot on that godforsaken island again. They can kiss my ass." Shelby Morgenson threw the letter down on the coffee table and paced her living room floor.
The nerve of them! How dare they send her another invitation to Chimera! What made the proprietors think she'd want to give them another try? To think that a little over a year ago she'd been so happy. But then her dreams had been dashed just like that.
It was hard not to think of the heartache and betrayal she'd suffered, even after all this time. Shelby remembered the first time she'd gotten a letter like this one. It said she'd won a trip to an all expenses paid resort. All she'd have to do in return was rate their services for a travel brochure.
Her family warned her that what seemed too good to be true probably was, but being the only sibling without a family of her own was lonely. She'd needed to get away and sort herself out. She figured even if staying on the island did cost her something, it would be worth the stay.
"What's wrong, sis?" Cindy asked, patting her three-month-old daughter on the back, trying to get her to burp.
Shelby handed her the letter and watched her sister frown as she glanced over the contents. "Is this something you're considering?"
"Hell no. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. I'm staying away from that godforsaken island. Besides, I just got approved for a loan to open my own nature shop. I have too much on my plate to deal with that crap right now -- or ever."
"Well, I can't really say that I blame you, hon. You were handed a pretty raw deal. For that year we had no word from you, we thought the worst. Now the thought of you going to that place again to meet God knows what is scary. They could whisk you off to some heathen place, and who knows how long it will be before we hear from you this time."
"You're preaching to the choir, Cindy. I want nothing to do with Chimera Island or its inhabitants."
"Good girl. This is probably the best decision. Besides, from what you've told me, those... creatures over there turned on you. If you went back, you could meet something or someone far worse."
Shelby rolled her eyes. She loved her older sister, but once Cindy got on a rant it was hard to stop her. "Yeah, Cindy, I know."
"And another thing. I'm still a little miffed at you for not giving me the full story. I thought we were close. You used to tell me everything."
"I did when we were kids, but now we have separate lives. You have your own family to worry about." Just then her niece, Emily, let out a loud belch. A content smile spread on her cherubic face.
"That's Mommy's good girl," Cindy cooed, smoothing down Emily's flaxen curls.
Shelby held out her arms. "Let me hold her."
Cindy handed over the gurgling baby, mindful of Emily's head and neck. Shelby's heart melted as her niece rested a soft cheek against hers. Holding the baby close, she inhaled the fresh powder scent. She walked over to her couch and sat down to tickle the baby's tummy. "Hey, pretty girl."
Emily blew a spit bubble and waved a starfish-shaped hand in the air.
Shelby released an inward sigh. When would it be her turn? At thirty-five she was tired of being the doting aunt. She wanted to have a couple of rug rats of her own. She supposed, if she really wanted to, she could visit a sperm bank, but the traditionalist in her found the thought of having a turkey baster as her child's father distasteful.
She wanted a husband, some animals and the proverbial white picket fence -- the whole nine yards. Shelby realized hers wasn't the most modern attitude, and the feminists would have a field day with her, but there it was. She'd already accomplished so much in her life, earning her bachelor's and master's degrees in forestry, the outdoors being her passion. She'd traveled the world, had her dream job, and was now starting her own business. What was wrong with wanting to share all of that with someone?
"She's gotten so big since the last time you brought her over here, and her features are getting more distinctive."
Cindy plopped down next to her. "Yes, she is adorable. I'm annoyed that I was the one who carried her for nine months but she looks like Bob, right down to her smile. I think I was just an incubator. You know, after four kids, you'd think I'd have one who looks like me," she sighed with disgust.
"Hey, the man has super sperm."
Cindy rolled her eyes. "Super sperm my hiney. You should see him walking around the house like a rooster with his chest all puffed out."
"But you love him."
A content smile touched the older woman's pink lips. "Yes, I do, and I pray that you'll find a man who'll love and respect you for who you are. You're smart, beautiful, and kind."
Shelby laughed with an ironic titter. "I thought I'd found that, but I guess I was wrong."
"You never really went into detail about what happened when you went to live with those men. That's another thing I found a little shocking about the whole fiasco you got yourself involved in. What manner of people were they that allowed a woman to be with three men? While I'm sure having three guys is nice fantasy material, the reality has to be a whole lot different."
The reality had been much better, until things went horribly wrong, she wanted to say, but instead Shelby said, "I hardly believe what happened to me either. When I came back, I had to fake amnesia for the sake of the press and the others because no way would anyone believe what I'd gone through. You're the only one who knows anything about my experiences on Chimera and Laiocean. If I told the others, they'd have me committed."
"I'm still debating whether I should have you committed, but even as a kid you were never one to make up wild stories."
"I don't think I could make up anything like this if I tried. Things that we thought were just stories to scare and amuse us when we were children are real. Vampires, Werewolves, Incubi, Aliens, Demons, and things I can't even name roamed that island freely. It was like a big Halloween party but everyone wore beach gear."
"Tell me about the three men... creatures you were with?"
Shelby shifted her now sleeping niece in her arms. "What's there to say? I fell in love with them and they broke my heart."
"All of them?"
"Yes. It's so weird because I used to think you can only love one person, but I loved them all equally and intensely. There was something special about every one of them. Tegor was the tall, dark warrior. They were all virile, alpha males, but Tegor... he would throw me against the wall, pull my hair back, take what he wanted, and make me like it. Then there was Rain -- his smile was contagious. He always knew what to say to bring my spirits up and he made me laugh. Geho was the silent, tender one. We could communicate without even speaking."
Shelby's mind drifted to the time when she'd first met them. She'd been on the beach and couldn't quite get her suntan lotion on her entire back. That's when three gorgeous men approached her to offer their services. Each one of them had been tall and broad, with aquamarine eyes. Tegor had been the dark one with long hair the color of a moonless sky, shaggy and wild. Rain's stick straight brown hair rested on his shoulders while Geho had a mop of dark blond curls giving him an almost angelic look.
With just one glance, her bikini bottom had become instantly wet. They were so gorgeous she didn't even notice their tails until later on in their acquaintance when they revealed to her that they were shifters. Hesitant at first about being with three men at once, Shelby soon found herself falling hard for each one of them.
Cindy cleared her throat to get Shelby's attention. "Hmm. Except for the freaky sex part, I have all of that in Bob. Why do you need three guys to provide you with what one good man can do?"
"It's hard to explain. They all shared a lot of the same qualities, but each one of them brought something to the table. As for finding a guy with all those qualities, come on. What world do you live in? As wonderful as you claim Bob is, don't you sometimes complain that you wish you two were more intimate at times and you wish he'd do more around the house? No one is perfect and neither were they, but the connection was undeniable."
"Until they turned their backs on you at the first sign of trouble. Some men they turned out to be."

"It's a shame we have to leave this gorgeous island." Trina sighed, stretching out on the beach, letting the sun's rays tickle her body with their warmth.
Bayoh dropped a light kiss on her stomach. "I'll miss Chimera as well, but we've been absent from Laiocean for two weeks now. Our people are probably wondering when we're coming back." He chuckled.
"Of course they know we'll be back. Word was sent last week, but you so convincingly persuaded us to stay another week," Roar added.
"As if you're complaining. Besides, the first week didn't count." Trina pouted.
Roar lifted his blond head, his aquamarine eyes staring at her with confusion. "How do you mean?"
"Well, I spent most of the week fighting what I felt for the three of you so I didn't completely enjoy the full experience of the island," she reasoned.
Roar ran his hand along the expanse of her stomach. "You're gorgeous," he murmured. "Hmm, perhaps you didn't enjoy the first half of the vacation, but there were no complaints at night."
Trina giggled. "Yes, I suppose you're right. You guys gave me nothing to complain about at night. Speaking of which, shouldn't we go back to our bungalow if we're going to take this any further?"
Bayoh nuzzled her neck. "You're ready to fuck again?"
She shivered. Talh moved to her feet and began to kiss her ankles. Roar moved closer and fondled her breasts with large skilled hands. "We can't do this right here in the middle of the beach. Anyone could just walk up on us," she moaned, despite the delicious sensations coursing through her body.
"This is our private stretch of beach, remember?" Roar grinned, trailing his fingers along her stomach again.
Trina sighed, arching her back against their touches. She couldn't remember a time when she'd been this content. Her heart swelled with love for these three gorgeous hunks. Each had his own distinct personality. Roar was the lighthearted one and often the spokesperson for the group. He made her laugh and realize that life didn't always have to be so serious.
Bayoh was fiery. He shot straight from the hip and his directness sometimes took her breath away. He was a man's man. He had a way of making her feel like a woman. Then there was Talh. Though quiet and often serious, he was the most sensitive of the three. The intensity of his aqua gaze left her panting. He was always tender and gentle with her.
If someone had told her a few weeks ago that she'd fall in love with three men, she'd have laughed, especially since Trina had sworn off men after finding her live-in boyfriend in bed with her best friend. Her best male friend.
Her mind briefly drifted to Tim of the golden skin and long dreadlocks. He was handsome, and a good lay, but a good-for-nothing bum who apparently was also bi-sexual. She'd threatened to cut off his penis after catching him in bed with Twan. The last time she'd seen him, he was running buck naked out of her house. He was probably doing okay now. His kind always managed to land on their feet.
That didn't matter anymore. She'd be starting a new life with three men she was madly in love with. At times it was scary to think about how she'd fallen so hard and fast for them. She was still trying to reconcile the fact that they weren't human and actually beings called Manani, a people whose natural form was leonine.
It frightened her when they'd shifted in front of her for the first time, so after that one night they'd stayed in their humanoid form. It was something she'd grow used to in time, but for now she was happy to see them as two-legged men rather than four-legged cats.
Chimera.
Trina would miss this magical island that had brought them together. Who would have thought the free vacation would actually turn out so wonderfully? When she'd received a letter in the mail stating that she won a free vacation, Trina smelled a rat. People like her didn't win free vacations, not without a catch. Normally she would have thrown the letter away and not given it another thought, but because her life had been in disarray at the time of its arrival, she'd called the number in a weak moment.
She'd booked the vacation and was told she'd only have to take a survey at the end to tell the people in charge what she thought of the island. Things had been great in the beginning and she actually began to take the place at face value. The island was gorgeous, the staff courteous, and her accommodations were something right out of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.
Then she began seeing things that just weren't supposed to be, like winged people, talking animals, men who looked like elves. That's when she knew Chimera was no ordinary island. Around the time of this discovery was when she met Roar, Bayoh, and Talh. They'd pursued her relentlessly until she lost the will to run.
The fact that they had tails didn't register until she'd already fallen under their spell. She smiled as she remembered that first night with them. It had certainly been something to remember.
Bayoh lifted one dark brow, his lips twisted in amusement. "What do you find so funny?"
Trina's smile widened, her eyes locking with his. "I'm just thinking of our first night together. You three probably thought I was a little bit crazy."
"Not crazy, just confused. We could hardly expect you not to be apprehensive as you've never known one of our kind before." Roar trailed his hand over her hot skin, his fingertips resting just above the top of her bikini bottom. Trina sucked in her breath in anticipation. She wanted to feel his fingers on and inside her pussy.
Obviously reading her actions correctly, Roar cocked his blond head to the side, a grin splitting his face when he undid the ties on her bikini bottom. Talh kissed and massaged her feet and ankles while Bayoh bent his dark head to nuzzle one throbbing breast with the side of his face.
"Oh, my goodness," she moaned, wanting more.
Roar pulled her bikini bottom away, leaving Trina naked from the waist down. Her body shook with desire. She had to bite her lower lip to stop herself from screaming, not wanting someone to hear them.
"Don't hold anything back, Trina. Scream for us if you want," Talh whispered. A lock of dark red hair fell over his forehead as he ran his lips along the side of her calves.
"This may be a private beach, but what if someone heard us?" She groaned, finding it hard to concentrate when Roar's hand was steadily inching toward her damp slit.
"So what? Let them. They'll know without a doubt that you belong to us."

"Cut, people. That's a wrap. You've done a great job on this film. Tomorrow is finito!"
Amanda Carlisle didn't acknowledge the cheers, nor did she join in. Head down, she rushed from the soundstage and headed for her trailer.
Her personal assistant and bodyguard, all six foot six of big, black male, blocked her entrance. "What's the rush, missy? That's not the face I'm used to seeing at the end of a shoot."
Amanda curled her lip and wished she felt like smiling. "Who the hell do you think you are? Mr. Clean? What's with the shaved head, Lester?"
Les grinned and tugged at the big gold ring hanging from his left ear. "I thought it complemented the bling. You mean you don't like the look?"
"You look so damned sexy you make my teeth itch." Amanda ran her hand down his bare chest. Everything about Lester Ondáge was perfect.
Well, almost everything.
"Ms. Carlisle? Over here!"
A flash bulb momentarily blinded her.
"Oh shit." Amanda ducked her head and slipped around Les. He moved his big frame aside and she raced into the trailer.
Les closed the door behind her, but she still heard his deep voice and the mumbles of disgruntled paparazzi.
"No pictures of Ms. Carlisle, fellas. Now, how'd you get back here? This area is off limits to press."
"Is it true? Has Franklin dumped Amanda from No Love Again?"
"What's the deal, Lester? Rumors are flying fast and furious. What about the reports of all the dissent on the set of Tomorrow? Word's out Ms. Carlisle is getting real hard to work with, that she put the film way over budget."
"Ms. Carlisle is always a professional. Word of her being replaced on the No Love Again cast is pure rumor. You know how it is in this business. Now, the lady is tired and she needs her rest. We'll see you at the cast party, I imagine."
Amanda groaned and buried her head in her hands. She'd forgotten about the damned party. She heard the door close, felt the warm strength of Lester's hands working the strained muscles in her neck.
"Good Lord, Les. Now that's magic."
"You're tight as a spring, missy. Can I get you some Ibuprofen?"
"I'd rather have a glass of brandy. A big one."
"You can have a small one and that's it. As tired as you are, you'd be on your cute little ass by dinnertime. I'm sure those jokers would love a picture of that."
Les poured a small shot of amber liquid into a plastic cup, then squatted down in front of Amanda and handed it to her. He wrapped her small hands in his big ones, cradling hers as she held the cup. "It'll be fine, sweetie. Relax."
Amanda leaned close and brushed her lips over Les's extraordinary mouth. He kissed her back, his full lips caressing hers with just the right pressure to hint of more.
"Damn you, Lester. You're perfect. Why the hell are you gay?"
He leaned back and grinned at Amanda. "That's the way the good Lord made me, sweetie. Just like he made you the most gorgeous woman on earth with a heart so full of love you sometimes make me think of putting the moves on you, just to feel your glow."
Amanda snorted. "Yeah. Right." She cupped the side of his face with the palm of her hand. "Thank you, Les. You always make it better."
Les sighed. "I can't fix this, though, can I?"
Amanda shook her head. "The magic's gone. I felt it from the first line of the script. It was a damned good story and I blew what could have been an Oscar quality performance. Les, I don't know what to do. Those guys were right. Franklin's trying to force me off his movie. William said..."
"William's an ass."
"He's also my agent, and a damned good one. He said Franklin's people are planting the word all over town that I'm through, that I'll kill the project." She sniffed and took a sip of brandy.
Les brushed her hair, bleached silver blonde for the film, back from her face. "You're a professional, but you're human. You're tired. You've done three films, back to back, and you haven't taken even a weekend break."
There wouldn't be a break for her now, either. No Love Again was due to start shooting on Monday. In Chicago. Damn, she hated Chicago.
"I've got an idea, but you might not like it." Les stood up and reached into the overhead compartment where he kept her papers. He pulled a long envelope out of the stack then sat down in the small chair next to Amanda's.
Les didn't open it. He sat there, tapping the envelope on his knee, staring at Amanda as if he were contemplating the end of the world.
Amanda opened her mouth to ask him what the hell was going on, when he took a deep breath and held up the envelope. "You're not going to like what I think you should do, but hear me out, okay?"
Amanda frowned and nodded. This was so unlike Les. He actually seemed nervous.
"I want you to have William contact Franklin, tell him you think Ashley Jenson would make a better Lisa than you. Pull yourself off the film. Don't give him the chance to do it... it would hurt your career too much. You know Franklin would love to get out of the contract and..."
Amanda sat back and blinked. No way in hell would... "I don't break contracts, Les. You know that.""
"I said, hear me out." He stood up, paced a few steps away, then whirled around. "This is an invitation to a very special resort. I've heard of it but never knew for sure it really existed. I checked. This invitation is for real and it's addressed to you. It's an island called Chimera -- a Caribbean island smack-dab in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle. No paparazzi, no one who knows who you are, no make-up people knocking on your door at four in the morning, just a beautiful island where you can relax, regroup..."
Amanda sighed, caught up in the mesmerizing cadence of Les's soft words. He described heaven. Warm sands, endless miles of beach, an elite clientele completely disinterested in her Hollywood status.
"Think about it, sweetie. It's your chance to..."
"Get the magic back."
Amanda's whisper hung between them. She looked up at Lester and smiled. Suddenly it all felt right. "Maybe you're right, Les. Tell you what, I'll do exactly what you say, but there's one condition."
Les blinked. Obviously he hadn't expected her to give in so quickly.
"I'll drop out of No Love Again and I'll take this vacation you're so convinced I need, but only if you go with me."
The expression on Lester's face was worth any contract for any movie ever made. "Close your mouth, Lester. You'll catch a fly." Amanda reached across the small space between them and snatched the envelope out of his suddenly lifeless fingers. "I'm not trying to seduce you, Lester. Think about it. You work just as hard as I do. You're just as lonely as I am. Separate rooms, we go our own way, but I'll feel safer knowing you're nearby. Will you come with me?"
Les cleared his throat. "Uh, I'm not on the invitation."
Amanda stood up, feeling more energized, more alive, than she'd felt in ages. "You are now. Here." She handed the envelope back to Les. "Make the arrangements and see how soon we can arrive. I think it's time for both of us to find the magic."

The thick steel door leading to the infirmary muffled the piercing shrill of the behavior neutralizer, a device used to control the animals with sound. Quickly Dar popped in his earplugs and raced toward the commotion.
He wasn't sure what he'd find, but it certainly wasn't the chaos unfolding before him. Standing on the examination table surrounded by the three other zookeepers, all holding neutralizers, was the female Human. She held what looked like a makeshift blade made out of a broken bottle.
Her screams were being drowned out by the noise makers, but she wasn't covering her ears in pain, nor was she backing down. Why weren't the devices working on her? Even though the plugs he'd inserted were designed to drown out even the highest decibels of sound, he could still hear the faint buzzes. What in the name of Glarm was going on?
Normally Dar was fast on his feet, but this time they wouldn't move even if he wanted them to.
The female was magnificent.
Dark brown hair framed a delicately shaped face that fell like a silken cape around her shoulders. Were it not for her coloring and the markings Flamrylian woman possessed, she could easily pass for one. As it stood, her body was absolute perfection from the high pert breasts capped with deep red nipples to the tiny waist that flared out to womanly hips. A triangular patch of hair rested between her thighs that he'd never seen on any Flamrylian female, but it wasn't unappealing. It actually made him want to find out the secrets it hid beneath.
Dar's cocks stirred uncomfortably inside his pants. Thoughts he knew he shouldn't be entertaining ran through his mind. Only when he looked into her blazing green eyes did he come to his senses.
They were filled with fear.
She wasn't acting out, but frightened. "Turn off the neutralizers," he yelled as loud as he could, and when they didn't, he realized his error. They were all obviously wearing earplugs as well.
He strode over to the closest one and snatched the device out of nerveless fingers and switched it to off. Dar repeated the motion with the other two and then gestured for them to remove the sound mufflers from their ears.
"Why did you do that? We need to get her to desist this unacceptable behavior. She wouldn't cooperate with the examination," Yeahen explained.
"Obviously these things aren't working," Dar drawled.
The other two looked hesitant.
The female, however, went on the attack. She sprang at him with the jagged glass. Dar moved out of her way, barely missing the slicing arc she made with her weapon. That would have produced a nasty cut. When she tried it again, he was ready for her. He caught her wrist in one hand and removed the glass from her and then tossed it out of her reach.
Dar was much taller and outweighed her significantly, but she put up a fight that made it nearly impossible for him to hold on to her.
Shara attempted to scratch his face, but when that didn't work, she pounded on his chest. He caught her flailing arm and gave her a strong shake. This didn't stop her. It seemed nothing would.
Leaning forward, she bit him.
Hard.
"Argh," he yelled his pain. The little she-beast's teeth had sunk through the cloth of his shirt and into his skin.
Yanking a clump of her hair, he was able to rip her head away from him, but not without causing injury to himself. Dar then grabbed Shara by the armpits and tossed her over his shoulder.
She cried out and pummeled tiny fists into his back.
His fellow zookeepers watched in fascination, not moving a finger to assist him, probably because they didn't know what to do. Dar couldn't blame them with the way this one carried on. Dar brought the flat of his palm onto her upturned bottom, not meaning to cause Shara pain, but to send a warning that he'd not put up with much more of her rebellion.
Though her struggles lessened, she still put up a fight, trying to wiggle from his hold. This time when he slapped her ass, Dar put more force behind it. He was in control and he wanted her to know it. Maybe what he was really trying to do was to control the racing hormones within him. The heat of her body so close to his was doing things to his body he hadn't experienced in a long time. He had to exorcise these inappropriate thoughts from his mind.

"Merry." She heard the soft whisper of her name before trying to turn around. "No. Stay where you are. I want you just like this."
She turned her head to see Thorne walking toward her with the stealth of a jungle cat. For someone so large, he moved with a grace that made it seem as though he were gliding across the room.
Merry's breath caught in her throat when he stopped mere inches behind her. She could smell a hint of his tangy cologne, Cool Water, and liked it. She loved everything about this man. His proximity wreaked havoc with her equilibrium.
Thorne's hands gripped her shoulders, pulling her against his taut body. She stiffened. What was the meaning of this? He'd never so much as looked at her when he was engrossed in his work. That he was holding her now was a bit of a shock, though not unwelcome.
"Relax, Merry. I won't bite... unless you want me to."
"Mr. Mordeaux --"
"Thorne. I've already told you to call me by my first name."
"But --"
"No buts, Merry. Say my name."
She already thought of him as Thorne in her mind, so why not say it?
Because it was a line she was afraid to cross.
His grip tightened on her shoulders as he lowered his head. His warm breath tickled her skin, sending sparks of pleasure through the core of her being. Merry had wanted this gorgeous man from the moment she'd laid eyes on him. Thorne Mordeaux oozed sexuality, with a tall, powerfully built frame and a set of shoulders so broad she dreamed of resting her head on them.
He had a nice tight ass, which she'd often watch when he walked past her. Thorne could wear the hell out of some Levi's. His face was just as arresting, with a long straight nose and midnight brows slashed over eyes so pale a blue at times they almost appeared platinum. The dark and the light were such a startling contrast that his gaze had a hypnotic effect.
His lips, though thin, were well shaped, made for kissing. Many carnal thoughts sprang to mind when she looked at his mouth and wondered what it would feel like on hers. She loved the way the unruly waves of his black hair rested on his scalp in a constant state of disarray. It was neither long nor short, just touching the edge of his collar.
He was gorgeous. And out of her league.
Thorne lowered his hands until they cupped her breasts. Merry gasped. "Mr. Mord --"
"Thorne," he whispered, kissing the nape of her neck.
"Thorne," she sighed, leaning against his hard body. A wave of pure desire rushed through her.
"You have no idea how much I've wanted you, Merry."
"So why didn't you ever say anything?" she asked, finding it hard to get the words out when he squeezed her aching mounds in his palms. She felt a tingling between her thighs and squirmed to temper the burning heat within.
"Because I wasn't sure how you'd react." His tongue slid over the shell of her ear and Merry thought she'd explode any second now. She turned around to press her tight breasts against his chest.
"I don't know why you would think I wouldn't want you. I've... I've wanted you for a long time too." Merry cupped the back of Thorne's neck. Her body awakened when he lowered his head to kiss her. She opened her mouth under the insistent pressure of his tongue initiating its seductive dance.
Merry ground her body against his, wanting to be closer. His hands slid down her back until they reached the curves of her ass, squeezing and molding them with his hands. She reveled in his touch, her body on fire for him. It was finally happening. After two months of daydreaming and fantasizing, Merry was in Thorne's arms.
He lifted his head with a soft groan, looking down at her with pale, lust-filled eyes. "You're beautiful, Merry. You have no idea how hard it's been watching you in this house and not being able to touch you -- to tell you how I feel."
She gasped. "How long?"
"I think from the beginning."
Merry shook her head. "But... I'm not beautiful."
"You are to me, and I want you."
She was on the verge of responding to Thorne's declaration when a shrill buzz sliced through the air. "What?" she asked, suddenly feeling disoriented and drowsy, the ringing cutting through her subconscious.
Reluctantly, Merry opened her eyes only to discover it was all a dream.
Damn.

"Great, this is just what I need," Callie Randall mumbled to herself as the sky opened up to release a torrential downpour. She absolutely hated driving in the rain, but it couldn't be helped. One of her babies was sick, so she'd risk a hurricane if that's what it took to get her little one to the doctor. She hoped her neighbor would be all right with Paris while she was gone.
Taking a quick look in the rearview mirror to check on London, Callie smiled. The little girl was sleeping without an apparent care in the world. Sometimes Callie wished she could be two all over again, with no cares or worries instead of being an unwed mother with twin daughters, a heavily mortgaged house and struggling dance studio.
Though she didn't regret having her beautiful daughters, she often wondered what might have been if she hadn't fallen for Terrell's bullshit. She'd believed that he'd stick by her, but the minute he learned of the pregnancy, he couldn't dump her fast enough. On top of that, he was living out her dreams in Europe with the dance troupe she'd worked so hard to be a part of.
Life wouldn't be such a struggle if he occasionally sent child support, but that sorry bastard always had an excuse. He'd only seen his daughters twice in the two years since their birth and then completely disappeared from their lives.
When she found herself alone and pregnant, Callie had left New York to go back home to the small North Carolina town she'd grown up in, only to hear her parents say they told her so. The first year had been a struggle, but when she got a small inheritance from a distant relative, she used it to get her own place and open up a dance studio. She had a few students and hoped that she'd eventually have more, but until business really picked up, she moonlighted as a waitress on the weekends.
Breathing a sigh of relief when she pulled into the doctor's office, she shut off the engine. Once she got an umbrella out and shrugged back into her raincoat, Callie walked to the rear passenger side to unbuckle London. "Baby, we're here."
London opened her big brown eyes, a dazed expression on her face, before she started to cry. "Hurts, Mommy," she whined, cupping a small hand over her ear.
Callie suspected her daughter had an ear infection. Paris had had the same problem just a couple weeks before. "I know it hurts, baby. That's why we're here at the doctor's office. Now hold on to Mommy's neck while I lift you up."
"Do I get a lollypop?"
"Only if you're really good. Can you be Mommy's big girl today?"
London nodded, her pigtails bobbing. "I want a red lollypop."
"We'll see."
With her daughter in one arm and her umbrella in the other hand, she raced to the big stone building, trying not to get wet. Once it was London's turn to see the pediatrician, it was just as Callie had suspected -- an ear infection. Not only did London get her red lollypop for being such a good girl for the doctor, she got a blue one to take home to Paris.
Callie felt a lot better once she and her daughter were back in the car, although the rain hadn't subsided a bit. London sat strapped in her car seat happily licking her red lollypop while gripping the blue one tightly in her other fist. When Callie had suggested putting the extra lollypop in her purse, London adamantly refused, wanting to be the one to give it to her sister.
London was the younger twin by ten minutes, but she was the nurturer of the two, always making sure her sister was taken care of and content to let Paris take the lead. Paris was the more assertive twin, but just as sweet and caring.
Callie didn't realize she could love two people as much as she did her twins. People often asked why she chose to name them after European cities, but in her mind, they seemed to be the most logical choices. After all, had she not gotten pregnant she'd be in Europe, dancing. She might as well have the next best thing, and Callie knew she wouldn't trade her little treasures for all the trips to Europe in the world.
Callie couldn't wait to get home to see Paris. When she was away from her kids, she always missed them. Halfway home, she decided to take a shortcut on a back road. Just then the rain let up. "That's good at least," she muttered to herself. It was getting dark and driving at night was bad enough without the slashing of water on one's windshield.
"How are you doing back there, London?" she asked, looking into the rearview mirror again to check on her daughter.
"Good," London answered between licks.
Callie glanced over her shoulder to make sure London wasn't making a mess, and when she looked straight ahead again, she was surprised to see a blinding white light. It was so glaring, in fact, she couldn't see where she was going and ended up swerving off the road. Panic sliced through her as she lost control of the vehicle. The more she tried to right the wheel, the more out of control the car went.
In the backseat, London began to cry, obviously sensing her mommy's plight. "Hold onto your seat tight, baby." Just as she got the words out, she felt a falling sensation. Callie didn't know exactly what happened, but as the little economy car landed with a loud crash, she thought about her beautiful baby girls.

After five years as both vampire and succubus, Roxi was still fighting with her succubus nature. The sexual desires running through her body were stronger than her need for blood. One night, nearly a year ago, during a feeding, she'd lost control and killed someone.
Roxi hadn't even realized what she'd done until the next evening after she had risen. Sheer terror and fear had gripped her as she'd rolled over to find her lover cold, his brown eyes lifeless. A sickening smile had curled on his lips as if he'd gone into eternity happy. She'd scrambled out of bed, far away from the horror, and thrown up. Her body shook as she'd curled into a ball. Roxi'd held her knees and cried until nothing had existed beyond the numbness that had settled upon her.
Everything that made sense in her world was gone. Days, hours and minutes went by. How long she'd been curled up in a ball, she didn't know. Tobias had found her. He'd cleaned up her mess, but the lingering loss of her lover hung on her shoulders.
For the past year, she'd struggled to get the memory of waking up to his dead body out of her head. Tobias had tried to teach her control. His efforts had failed. Her succubus nature was too strong. Just the thought of sex, even a small bit of lust, caused the beast to rise within. The desire would take over. She would black out and find her current lover passed out, his life hanging on by a thread, and yet again Tobias would have to clean up her mess.
Tired of losing control, she'd sought out the advice of a witch who told about the sealing ceremony. "The magicks involved are volatile and dangerous. You could die," the witch had warned her.
"I don't care. Just make it happen." Guilt, fear, anger and desperation had driven her to this point. She wanted either to die or have the monster inside of her sealed away if it couldn't be killed. Roxi felt as if the hungers were trying to claw their way out of her. Every second that went by, a little more of her control eroded away. The arousal extended thin fingers, tracing light touches up and down her spine. It lit nerve endings on fire and caused her pussy to contract. Her clit ached for a touch, anything to ease the need.
The world was a swirl of heat and desire. She swallowed and tried to push it all down. The power only shoved right back. Roxi stumbled backward and gasped as the energy surged upward. It stole her breath and sent her head spinning. She tried to breathe through the heat that was consuming her. A hand settled on her shoulder. Roxi looked up to find herself staring into calm, steady, golden eyes. Rough fingertips trailed over her cheek. She turned into the touch. Her lips connected with his palm. Without hesitation she kissed the soft skin and sighed. The desire simmered in her veins, but for the first time since her changing, she could control it.
Roxi closed her eyes and kissed his hand again. She inhaled his scent, a mixture of musk edged with something wild and chaotic. The effects of his cologne rushed through her. It sparked fires within her. Her succubus nature didn't rise. Instead, it lay content at this man's feet. He pulled his hand away. For a moment the need came roaring back, out of control. Then it was pushed away when he cupped her chin, leaned forward and kissed her.
The first touch of his mouth was tentative, hesitant. When she didn't push him away, the kiss became more. She heard his heartbeat in her head. The sweet and salty tastes of blood rolled around her mouth. Roxi hungered for him to sink deep inside of her until they were one. A thirst for his blood rose up so strong that she bit him. Instead of moving away from her, he groaned. She felt his arms wrap around her. He pulled her close. When their hips touched, she felt his erection pressing against her stomach. Her pussy contracted. Desire dampened her panties. She wanted to feel every inch of him inside of her, fucking her hard.
Roxi broke the kiss. Her breath came out in soft pants as desire threatened to tug under its riptide. She looked up at him. Although her gaze was pulled toward his golden eyes, she studied his features fully from his high brow, to his sculpted cheekbones, aquiline nose and sensual lips. What shocked her most were the scars that slashed through his cheek and dragged the left side of his mouth down.
She reached up and traced the fine lines lightly.
He grabbed her wrist. The world stopped. Fear that she had done something wrong caused her to look away.
"It's okay. The wounds still hurt, that's all. Besides, I'd rather have your nails tearing up my back." He smiled. Heat flushed her cheeks as she imagined their legs tangled with one another as their bodies moved together, trying to reach climax. "I'm Connor, by the way, reformed warlock."
He gave her a kiss which made her smile against his mouth. She kissed him back. Roxi lifted her hand and threaded her fingers through his hair. The silken strands trailed against her palm and sent pleasure up her arm. He rocked his hips against hers, and she moaned and grabbed a handful of hair. Roxi pulled back to look up at him. "Don't start something you can't finish."

"If those bastards think they've heard the last of me, then they have another think coming! I saved that kid's life and as thanks I get suspended. I can't believe I might lose my hospital privileges for doing my damn job! Does that make sense to you?" Genesis's eyes welled up with angry tears.
"You can get hospital privileges somewhere else. You're a brilliant doctor." Eden patted her sister on the shoulder in reassurance.
"Do you honestly think they will give me a good reference to go elsewhere? Hello?" Genesis's hand tightened on the steering wheel.
"Gen, I understand your frustration, but you don't have to speak to me like that."
Genesis bit her lip. "I'm sorry."
The problem preying on her mind now was whether she would still have a place to work at week's end. Genesis knew Randolph had been looking for an excuse to get rid of her from the beginning. It didn't matter that the child probably would have died if she hadn't helped him. She'd broken hospital protocol.
"Hey, Gen. Where did you go?" Eden's voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
"Oh, I'm sorry, hon. What did you say?" Genesis took her eyes off the road to look at her sister who was twirling one long braid with her fingers.
"I was just saying we've been driving for hours. I need to stretch my legs. Where are we anyway?"
"I don't really know." Genesis drove to clear her mind, with Eden tagging along at times. Somehow this time they'd ended up in what looked like Redneck Junction. "I think we should go to the next town before we get out of the car. I'm not waiting around for men in white sheets to come out and greet us."
Eden giggled. "This place doesn't seem so bad. You're being silly."
"I'm not being silly. I've see places like this in the movies. Do you ever see any black people in them?"
"Before we go, could you turn down that dirt road?" Eden pointed to the little turnoff up ahead.
"Why?" Even as Genesis asked the question, she felt the need to do exactly that. They drove for about half a mile before they came upon a little shack.
Eden stepped out of the car as Genesis pulled to a stop. "Eden, get back here."
Ignoring her sister, the smaller woman walked toward a mangled looking car. It was as if someone had ripped the roof off of it.
"Have you ever seen anything like this?"
"I think we should get out of here."
"I suppose we should start heading back. I have a lot of book reports to grade tonight." Eden sighed.
"Yes, and I have to sit around twiddling my thumbs while I wait for that pompous asshole Hawthorne to convince the rest of the board members to get rid of me."
"Being negative about it won't change anything. You're a fighter, Gen. We'll get through this."
"Listen, little Miss Sunshine, everything isn't all goodness and light. I've been fighting since the minute I earned my medical degree. I've had to jump through hoops to do the only job I ever really wanted. I'm sick of it. Has it occurred to you that maybe I'm just too tired to fight anymore?" Genesis ranted.
The stricken look on Eden's face was enough to stop her tirade. There she went again, snapping at her sister when she wasn't to blame. "Eden, I'm --"
"Genesis, look out!"
Before she could react to her sister's scream, a pair of arms wrapped around her from behind.

“Do you mind if I join you?” a deep voice reverberated over the sound of the music.
Daria glanced over to see a gentleman standing by her booth. He was so tall in fact she needed to tilt her head backward in order to look directly into his eyes. Wow, he was a big one. He reminded her of a tree, broad and stoic. If she were guessing, he had to be at least six feet six inches give or take a few. Her gaze roamed his face, from his wide forehead and slender hawk-like nose to his square jaw and the dimple in the center of his chin. She couldn’t quite make out the color of his eyes, but they were heavily lashed.
Wavy chestnut hair framed his face falling just below his jaw line. Individually there was nothing spectacular about his features, but together they formed one of the most arresting faces and the plumpest pair of lips she’d ever seen.
Her breath caught in her throat. Her mouth moved, trying to form words, but it was as if her tongue was glued to the roof of her mouth. Instead of speaking, she nodded.
Tall, broad and handsome’s eyes crinkled at the sides and his full lips curved into a smile. With a grace she wouldn’t have attributed to a man his size he slid into the chair opposite hers in one fluid motion. “Thank you. I’ve been working up the nerve to come over here all night.”
Her eyebrows shot up. Surely he was teasing her. Despite her size, she knew she was attractive, but it wasn’t often she was hit on when she was out with her friends. Maybe that was it. He’d seen her enter the club with Carmen and Regina and thought he’d get into their good graces by playing up to her. It wouldn’t be the first time. But for some reason, this time around that idea didn’t sit well with her. In fact she found the thought downright depressing.
“Oh?” Taking a sip of her drink she attempted to play things cool. She couldn’t let him know he’d gotten under her skin.
His smile widened to reveal even white teeth. “Yes. I noticed you the minute you walked in and I’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to approach you. I hope you don’t think I’m being too forward. My name is Ethan. Ethan Granger, and yours?” He extended his long arm across the table to offer his hand.
Her glass nearly slipped from her nerveless fingers. Maybe she was imagining things but he genuinely sounded as if he really wanted to talk to her. Not Carmen or Regina. She ran her tongue over her lips and placed her drink on the table before touching her palm to his. “Daria.”
The minute they touched, his fingers engulfed hers and what she meant to be a simple handshake turned into so much more. A jolt of electricity shot through her body and she immediately snatched her hand out of his grasp. Her eyes widened as she stared at him, wondering if he’d felt it too.
His smile faltered briefly, but he gave no indication that he’d gotten anything out of their physical contact. “That’s a beautiful name. Daria,” he whispered as though to test it on his tongue. “I like that. It suits you. So tell me, why aren’t you out there dancing with your friends?”
Feeling shy all of a sudden, she raised one shoulder in a shrug. “I guess I’m not really in a dancing mood.” It was far too embarrassing to admit the real reason why. It’s not like she needed a man to partner her when she got on the dance floor. She often had the most fun simply dancing with her girlfriends, but it was no fun being shouldered out of the way when Carmen and Regina’s admirers surrounded them.
“That’s too bad, because I was hoping you’d dance with me, but if you’d rather sit and talk, that’s okay with me. How about I get you another drink?”
Was this guy for real? Where had he been all night? Looking at Ethan, Daria decided the last thing she wanted was to just talk. Maybe the night wouldn’t be such a total loss after all. “Actually, I would love to dance.”
Again he flashed his perfect smile. He should be in toothpaste commercials with a mug like that. Ethan helped Daria out of her seat, gently grasping her elbow before leading her to the edge of the dance floor. Goosebumps worked their way up her spine as she tingled all over from his nearness. His touch was surprisingly gentle for someone so large.
Their bodies swayed together to the rhythm of the smooth jazz pumping through the sound system. Ethan grasped Daria by the hips and pulled her against him. She gasped at the contact. The jolt she’d felt earlier coursed through her entire being. Something was happening here she couldn’t quite put her finger on. Throwing caution to the wind, she wrapped her arms around Ethan and molded her body against his.
No words were needed as their bodies moved in sync with each other. She tilted her head back to meet his gaze. Ethan stared at her with such intensity a shiver went down her spine. He stared at her as if they were the only two people in the room. For the first time she noticed the color of his eyes. At first she thought they were brown, but when the light hit them she could tell they were green, a deep rich moss color, ringed with gold. Daria had never seen anyone with that particular shade before.
With their bodies pressed so close together, she could feel his rock hard form: every muscle and sinew in his tall lean frame. Her pussy dampened and a warmth starting in the pit of her stomach spread along every single nerve ending in her body. Never had she felt such an instant attraction to anyone before and Daria found it frightening and exciting.
Ethan pulled her closer still, his corded arms holding her tight. Someone fierce and possessive lurked within the depths of his eyes. And Daria was woman enough to recognize he wanted her as much as she wanted him.
