JR Thornton’s Mercedes pulled to the side of the road long enough for him to check his newest delivery at the construction site just down the road from his destination. Yes, the huge truck was there, waiting for his crews to return after the holiday. One repayment on the long road to his redemption. He smiled to himself. Despite what his sister-in-law had advised, JR just couldn’t seem to let go of his lists and plans.
“Learn to be impulsive, you big furry idiot!” she’d told him. Charm wasn’t known for her tact.
He was trying, dammit. That was why he had sent his chauffeur home, donned a Santa suit -- God help him if any of his colleagues saw him like this -- and was now on his way to an orphan’s group home on Christmas Eve to deliver presents to a bunch of kids who weren’t even there. He pushed the accelerator and eased the car back on the road.
The Lucky Charms Group Home stood isolated in the middle of his project. He’d cleaned out the rest of the rundown subdivision surrounding the group home. In its place would be a planned community with modern homes, a shopping complex, community center, and even a library and post office. The fifty-year-old one-story ranch, owned by Charm and his brother, was the only remnant of the old neighborhood. ’Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. At least he hoped the children were all nestled in their beds. This shit was still new to him, but damn, he felt strangely good.
JR parked and nervously jingled the keys, feeling very awkward in the padded costume. According to Charm, who was on her honeymoon with Lucky, the kids were at an all-night sleepover party in town. All JR had to do was lug in the presents, meet the caterer bringing the feast for the kids, and leave to spend another lonely holiday. Funny how you could be lonely in the middle of a werewolf pack, even if you were the heir presumptive to the pack leader. He wished he could linger to see the kids open their presents. Children had a joy for life he’d lost somewhere along the way.
He first grabbed the big red sack from the back seat, which contained the smaller presents, just in case a kid caught him. No spoiling their little illusions. If he hurried, he could get back home in time to watch the old Rankin/Bass classic, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. He was a sucker for that movie show, though no one would believe it of him. Next year, he’d bring the disc with him and watch it with the kids here. Yeah, that was the solution. Holiday specials and cookies until they nodded off and were put to bed. Damn, why did Christmas only come once a year? He’d make a note in his planner to return next year with a holiday movie marathon and all the trimmings.
The key turned easily in the lock, and JR stepped quietly inside. The tree twinkled from its position on the wall opposite from where he stood. He hefted the bag and made one step toward his goal.
The clear ka-chink of ammunition loading into the chamber of a rifle stopped him cold.

Watching Cooper strip off his clothes was better than any male stripper show Tas Rivers had ever seen, not that she’d seen all that many. The slide of denim over Cooper’s taut butt brought a sigh of appreciation. Her ranger was tall with wide shoulders, long legs and lean muscles. The urge to nip one firm cheek sent a wicked quiver all the way to the tip of Tas’s tail.
These nightly displays of naked flesh were driving Tas crazy. If he wore pajamas, her life undercover would be far easier. While on assignment she had to remain in her wolven form and play the part of a trained law enforcement canine. She’d taken undercover assignments before, but Cooper sorely tested her will.
When he stepped out of the shower, Tas had a full frontal view. His dark hair was plastered to his skull and water beaded his lean face. His warm brown eyes were framed with arched eyebrows and long lashes. His nose was slightly crooked and his lips curved into generous smiles that stole her breath.
Thankfully, Cooper mistook her excited admiration for panting.
He grabbed the towel and dried his hair. The motion set his flaccid, but long cock dangling. His morning erections were so impressive that Tas yearned to take little Cooper for a hard ride.
During the weeks she’d partnered with the sexy ranger, she’d been with him twenty-four seven, sharing his life and his home. She knew him as few others did and every day she fell a little more in love with him.
When Cooper walked into the kitchen area, Tas rubbed her flank along the side of his leg and licked the back of his thigh. His clean, male scent curled through her sensitive nostrils. Her tongue snaked up his thigh and edged toward one firm cheek. He stepped to one side and dug his fingers into her thick fur. He stroked her along the length of her spine. Tas loved the feel of his big hands. Cooper was strong, but always gentle.
He poured a shot of brandy into a glass and stood before the fireplace, staring into the crackling flames. Tas had no idea what Cooper was thinking, but his cock began to stiffen.
Tas whined. The man was driving her crazy.
Cooper drank the shot. “Maybe Santa will fulfill my Christmas wish and bring me a woman. Damn, it’s been a long time.”
He had no idea how long it had been for her. Tas exhaled, mimicking a human groan as Cooper walked to the bed and climbed into the sleeping bag.
Tas laid her chin on her paws and tried to force the image of her naked ranger out of her brain. It was times like this she wished she weren’t a sentient being in a she-wolf’s body.

Dark, sinful, and probably batting for the other team. Donna eyed the sexy curve of Jack’s ass in his tight-fitting jeans with hunger bordering on obsession. Or stalking, a voice in the back of her head interjected. Each step up the stairs enhanced her fantasy of running her fingernails over his well-sculpted body until…
She sighed and shifted the load in her arms, easing an awkward hold on her belated Christmas presents. To herself. They were supposed to be under the tree long before Christmas Eve, but it’s hard to convince yourself to buy something for a little self-love over the holidays. She’d gone all out for the occasion, got waxed a couple of days ago, got a manicure, a pedicure. All in preparation for buying the Mighty Mo, platinum edition. A sex toy that, according to the package, could do everything she ever wanted a man to do. Except cuddle or talk. She sighed again. The pity party was getting old.
Jack’s ass was far more interesting. She openly admired his efficient movements, wishing for something with a little more meat for her self-pleasure party, but sex with a stranger and the holiday season was usually a recipe for disaster.
Jack swung around suddenly as though to go back down the stairs. Donna tried to move out of the way, but her packages knocked her off balance. She waved her arms, tossing the packages around like a drunk juggler. He dropped his and pulled her into his arms. They fell against the steps and she sprawled against his finely muscled chest.
Donna cleared her throat and mumbled an apology.
“Are you okay?”
She probably shouldn’t notice the way his chest rumbled when he spoke or the strength of his thighs under her hands.
“Yes, I’m” -- she paused and shook her head, trying to clear the mud from her thoughts -- “fine.” She pushed off his chest and looked everywhere but at him. “What about you? I must have crushed you.”
His laughter sent warmth throughout her entire body. “It takes far more than a little tumble to leave me hurting.”
Donna couldn’t quite stop the mental snort at his words. Of course she was probably the only one thinking about sex all the time. “I think our Christmas presents might not have fared so well.”
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yes.” She scrambled up, trying desperately to look enticing and knowing she failed miserably. “I need to find my presents.”
“Okay, we’ll look. Mine are scattered as well.” He started down the stairs. “What do yours look like?”
Donna choked in embarrassment. What was she going to say? Seven inches of ridged silicone? Please don’t let him find my Mighty Mo. At least it was wrapped.

“D’you want me to walk the perimeter with you, then?”
“‘Perimeter’.” Kenth wrinkled his nose and jostled his walking companion, Paddy. “That sounds a bit military, don’t you think? Puts me in mind of the days when I wore a uniform, and couldn’t wait to walk free again. Do you miss your army days, old man?”
“I’ll old man you, you whippersnapper.” Paddy knotted one wiry, knobby-knuckled fist. Tough as shoe leather and lords only knew how old, Kenth was sure he could follow through on the threat, if he weren’t in jest.
“Another day,” Kenth said, sparing Paddy’s pride and making peace with two words.
“Your military experience is good for more than one thing, and I’ll tell you that for free,” Paddy said after they’d traveled a few more paces, working their way in a rough circle around their people’s encampment in a nearby cave.
“How so?”
“The armies make a man tough, but if he’s a man of sense he’ll find home all the more precious afterward, and the safety of his people his life’s mission.” Paddy nodded gruffly. “You’re a fine boy to lead us all out of the cities, and we’re smart as tacks to come along.”
“You know, I thought you were. All of you took quite the chance on me.”
“It was our only chance, but without you there wouldn’t have been neither chance nor choice of any sort.” Paddy shrugged. “The cities will all be gone, soon, and there’ll only be us out here in the empty lands to keep the world alive.”
“That’s gloomy, grandfather,” Kenth said, using the title as a gesture of respect. Paddy didn’t have any blood family, as far as Kenth knew. Most of the others didn’t, except for a few babes in arms.
“That’s truth and nothing but.” Paddy stopped and gazed at the horizon. “There was a lad once, a year or so before I met you. Alan, he was called. He went the other way, up and over.” Paddy sketched the direction in the air. “Toward the seas. Said he’d come back, and I still think he will. Hope he’s happy in the meantime.”
Kenth watched Paddy curiously. He’d never heard of anyone successfully breaking free before and might be tempted to anger that this information hadn’t yet been shared, but Paddy spoke in his own time. “Why didn’t you go with him? You were eager enough to come with me.” And glad he was of having the clever old man along to help him manage the settlers.
“Because you were a second chance, lad, and the first chance I got, I was too stupid to take. There! That’s a life lesson for you. Now, I’m back for the cave. Too cold out here for old bones.”
“As if you couldn’t run a mile uphill both ways and come out smiling.”
“Bah.” Paddy waved Kenth off. “Save the sugar for one of the pretty ladies in our company, or one of the handsome young men,” he said slyly. “There’s plenty as would be happy to spend time with you.”
Kenth sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. “Not yet.”
“When, then?”
“When the time’s right, you old busybody!” Kenth deliberately aimed to miss a playful cuff at Paddy. “Weren’t you saying something about going back to the warm cave?”
Paddy elbowed him and patted his shoulder, then left. Kenth watched him go, being sure the elderly man was safe, toughness notwithstanding, before changing his focus. He squinted at the winter sun setting over the horizon, its light reflecting off fallen snow only two inches deep -- so far. They’d had a good warm day, one of the last for the year if he guessed right, and most of the snow had melted from the peculiarly beautiful twisted trees that grew in arcs and spikes.
Hah. That’s odd.
Kenth put his hand over his eyes and worked to see past the setting sun. He thought he’d spotted something where there should be nothing, something moving deep within the trees where they grew so thickly among the hills and hummocks they could almost be called a forest.
Could be nothing… or could be oncoming danger. Kenth took seriously the task of keeping his frontiersmen and frontierswomen safe. They’d traveled thousands of kilometers by his judging, which some hadn’t thought nearly far enough, to find a good safe place. No looting, no gangs, no shortage of food if you knew where to look, and a warm, homey place to bunk down through the snows.
And, the only thing lacking, no dragons swooping in their strange, beautiful arcs through the skies above. Kenth missed them, though he’d never tell. He suspected many of the group he led were still fearful of them, though they had the good sense not to trust tall tales.
All the same, he did still wish he could get one more good look at one of the flying beauties who shone fit to rival the sun.
Were they frightening? Without a doubt. But they were also beautiful, and every time Kenth had caught sight of one he’d stopped to watch it soar above him, holding his breath in fascinated admiration. People there tended to look at Kenth strangely when he spoke of that and he had the welfare of men and women and children, families and orphans all, to keep watch over out here, so he kept his odd interest in the dragons to himself.
If only they could see the beauty for themselves…
And then there were stories, of how dragons and men mated. How beautiful it must be…
Kenth had not had a lover for a long time, and only of late realized it was because when he looked to the skies and saw the dragons flying in intricate patterns, he craved one of them and no other.
If only, if only…

Brady’s number one pastime is noodling. He loves the thrill of catching magical catfish with his bare hands. Imagine his surprise when he’s feeling for catfish beneath the waters of Hot River and gets a handful of womanly curves instead.
Nadine is just a water nymph lazing about in her favorite underwater cave when she feels a pair of pleasantly rough male hands rubbing her in all the right places. She knows this is too real to be a daydream. It’s more like the man of her dreams has found her, but is their love strong enough to cross the boundary between water and land?

When Brady reached into the underwater cave and felt soft, womanly curves instead of a slippery catfish, he knew something was off.
At first he thought he’d spent too much time underwater this morning and it had affected his mind. He had a water obsession and spent almost as much time in Hot River as a merman or selkie.
Noodling was his passion, but in the magical world noodling -- catching catfish with one’s bare hands -- was even more exciting than in the mortal world. In Hot River, which flowed through and connected the entire realm of magic, catfish were enchanted. Those who caught them and managed to hold on long enough would gain the power to breathe underwater for a time, usually a couple of hours. They could swim like a fish and to a man like Brady who revered the water, it was worth the risk.
He proudly bore noodling scars on his hands and arms. Not only did he enjoy the magical rush of swimming freely beneath the waves, but he loved the challenge of overpowering the mighty fish.
When he’d set out after dusk, he thought nothing could excite him more than a night spent on Hot River. He had no idea how exciting it would really be until that moment.
“Dang,” he murmured, his hand sliding along soft, womanly curves. Smooth thighs and hips made for a man to hang onto had his heart beating faster. His eyes slipped shut and he caressed a gently rounded, wonderfully feminine belly. His cock twitching and breath quickening, he moved his palms upward. Oh, baby. Here come the breasts. There have to be breasts.
Yeah. There were breasts all right. Brady’s hands cupped the full, lush spheres. He kneaded gently and stretched his fingers, seeking the tight, straining nipples.
Then a horrible thought struck him. What was a woman doing underwater? Had he stumbled upon a dead body? His stomach clenched and he jerked away, his heart pounding.
He knew what he needed to do, but he didn’t relish the idea. Still, if someone was stuck in that cave, dead or alive, he had to find out. He took a deep breath and plunged beneath the surface.
To his surprise, once underwater, he found himself face-to-face with the most adorable woman he’d ever seen. She was very much alive. She had large blue eyes slanting upward at the corners and long, pale blue hair that fanned out seductively around her. Seeing her surprised him so much that he nearly swallowed a mouthful of water.
A smile spread across her full lips and she swam toward the surface, her curvy, supple body brushing against his. Brady didn’t hesitate to follow her. He broke the surface, somewhat breathless, not from being under for so little time, but from anticipation and arousal.
“Tell me, Mister, do you make a habit of groping water nymphs?” she demanded.
“I didn’t mean to grope anybody. I was just out here looking for catfish and --”
She looked shocked. “Do I look like a catfish?”
“No. Not at all. You sure don’t feel like one, either,” he said with a little grin that he hoped would relieve some of the tension between them.
For a moment they stared at each other and he thought again how cute she was. More than cute. Irresistible. He’d like nothing more than to feel her again, this time while kissing those pouting lips.
He noted her skin carried a hint of lavender and her eyelashes were dark blue. In all the years Brady had spent along Hot River, he had never seen a water nymph in person. Usually they stayed in the deepest parts of the river, or the most secluded. Even to those in the magical community, water nymphs were considered creatures of fable, as elusive as the Spirit of Hot River itself.
“Well, don’t you have something to say?” she asked, lifting her chin slightly. “Or are you just going to stare at me?”
“I’m sorry,” he replied. “Sorry for touching you like that and sorry for staring. You’re just so --”
“What?”
“Adorable.”

The cure may kill him, if his addiction doesn’t do it first.
Ioanne accepts Zaiden’s proposal to help his lover only because they grew up together as spaceport brats. And, she’s kind of always had a crush on him. “You’ll be okay?” Zaiden asked out of habit. Now that they’d arrived, he battled nervousness. On the station Tomak could go anywhere -- get anything. Although Zaiden trusted him, he had to admit it was mostly because Tomak’s career meant too much to him.
Tomak grabbed Zaiden’s hand. “This means too much to me. I’m not going to run out and buy a hit.”
The hurt in Tomak’s voice twisted a knife deep in Zaiden’s gut. Not only was he thinking about the woman he’d lived with all those years ago, but he was also worrying that Tomak might do something stupid. “I didn’t think that,” Zaiden said. “Ioanne is my friend. You don’t know her. I’d be a bit uncomfortable if our positions were reversed.”
“Hey, it’s okay.” Tomak sat up and swung his legs over the side of the bed Zaiden had just vacated. “I understand. Why don’t you go find your friend? You can let her know that we’re here and see if she wants to get started right away.”
“All right.” Zaiden went, stepping back into the hall. Outside of the entryway he found a closed door, and another, smaller, open door that led to a kitchenette. Next to it was the door for the bathroom, and then the larger room where the meditation sessions took place. He didn’t see Ioanne.
Deciding she must be in the room with the closed door, he returned to it and knocked softly.
Silence greeted him.
Zaiden reached for the knob, remembering the years he’d lived with her and hoping he wasn’t disturbing her. No doubt, she’d heard them come down the hallway and to their room. He closed his fingers around the doorknob, debating on whether to open it or not. Maybe she wasn’t even home.
He turned the handle. It clicked, and the door swung open, almost too easily. A single bed sat in the corner, a brightly printed comforter over it. A wardrobe similar to the one in their room sat across from it. Opening the door a bit farther, he took in several emerald and sapphire-colored pillows on the floor. And there, in the middle of them, sat Ioanne, naked.
Zaiden’s breath whooshed from his lungs. Ioanne sat with her head bent forward, her short cap of red hair barely covering her forehead and cheeks. Her small, high breasts showed no signs of age, and neither did her flat stomach. With the soles of her feet pressed together, her legs framed her smooth mound. His fingers itched to slide over all that silky skin and use his thumbs to part her folds to suckle the pearl nestled inside.
With her head tilted, he couldn’t see her lips and wondered if they were as lush as he remembered. He’d spent countless nights in bed, his fingers wrapped around his cock, thinking about what she’d look like on her knees, his shaft in her mouth. He stifled a groan.
At last she exhaled, a long breath that seemed to come from her very soul. When it finished, she lifted her head to look at him. Shock flashed in her gaze, though she studied him, taking in his hair, his body, all the way down to his feet, then back again. His work with the team had introduced him to weight training and fitness beyond a run around the station. He’d filled out, broadened and gained a few inches since they’d last seen each other. What did he look like to Ioanne now, and how did that compare to her memories of who he’d been?
Zaiden was aware he’d leaned in the doorway while he watched her, his ankles casually crossed, one hand tucked in his pocket. His erection tented the front of his slacks, clearly visible, and he could see her pink labia. He bet her clit was swollen, peeking from its hood, and he longed to tease it with his fingers… or his tongue.
Her breathing sounded harsh in the small room, quite the contrast from her deep, even meditation.
“You arrived. Welcome.” Her breathy voice hardened his cock even more.
“We did. Thank you again for working with Tomak. Your work is very well-known.”
She stood in a lithe movement that revealed her strength and flexibility. Grabbing a robe that lay over the end of the bed, she slipped it on, but not before he noted her hardened nipples.
Ioanne wanted him.

"This is one hell of a daydream," she moaned. "Kiki, you are finally sliding over the edge into madness."
Too bad. This was one daydream she was going to enjoy. She gave herself up to the pleasure flooding her system. The imaginary lover slid lower, fingers ruffling the bottom of her skirt before insinuating themselves under the material. The cotton fabric bunched up around her waist as he clamped his hands about her hips.
Kiki groaned in ecstasy as his tongue ran down over the curve of her ass, creating friction on the satin fabric of her underwear. Her panties suddenly slithered down her thighs and the hot brand of his mouth moved on, licking, nipping at the cheeks and then spreading them to trace down the flesh until he reached her pussy.
She opened her legs a bit more and pushed her bottom backward. The invisible hands trailed down her legs and back up the inside of her thighs. Thumbs gently caressed her swollen flesh until she moaned in frustration. It was too much... and not enough. She writhed against the hot boulder. Nails clawed at the granite surface. The blood rushed through her veins and the breath caught in her throat.
His tongue lapped at her nether lips and she screamed, the sound bouncing off the outcrop of rocks. A parrot in an overhead branch squawked at the intrusion. Kiki ignored the bird and concentrated on the sensations ripping all control from her.
She rocked her hips back and forth as he parted her and lapped at her clit. A pulsing began deep inside. Tension coiled low in her belly. Her legs trembled, and for a moment, she thought she'd collapse into a melted heap on the dusty red soil.
"Oh, God, don't tease!" she gasped. How foolish. It was all in her head. She needed to find her own release. Live out her daydream to the end.
Then she heard something, or thought she did.
Something impossible.
Something totally alien.
As you wish, Dearling.
A voice.
Inside her head.
No, it had to be her imagination.
Before she could lever herself away from the rock, she felt it again. A tongue, rasping against her sensitized clit. Licking at her opening, plunging deep inside her pussy. Thrusting and withdrawing, establishing a rhythm designed to drive her crazy.
Fingers replaced the mobile tongue, filling her, stretching her. Ramming into her with enough force to drive the sexual tension to the next level.
Kiki whimpered. The breath strangled in her throat. Spasms started small, radiating out until her whole pussy throbbed in time with the thrust of his fingers. When he placed his mouth over her clit and suckled hard, she came apart, the orgasm harder, longer, than any she'd ever experienced. Sensation rocked her, driving through her body. She couldn't think, could only react, pushing her ass toward him.
"Don't stop, don't stop," she groaned. God, she could never get enough of this. It was mind-blowing. Out of this world.

EXCERPT:
He slowed to a walk as he approached the base of the cliffs. The scent of the cyborg above him was part human sweat and part metallic tang. He studied the face of the cliff. From this side he could see no visible path to the top, but he wasn't human and a path wasn't necessary. Crouching on his haunches, he leapt to a jutting outcrop above. Utilizing the craggy topography, he ascended the sheer face of the cliff, pausing on a narrow ledge just below the surface.
Testing the air with his sensitive nose, he detected the cyborg above him and to the left. Too bad his panther form didn't allow him to carry weapons. A stun-grenade tossed over the edge would take out his opponent instantly.
But then, where's the fun in that?
He slunk to the right along the ledge as far as he could before bounding over the top and landing solidly on all fours. His large black head swung back and forth, alert senses homing in on his prey.
The cyborg hadn't moved, his ocular implants glowing an eerie green as he used them to search the forest below. He balanced a mobile laser cannon on one shoulder, his finger twitching on the trigger.
Jakeb's tail lashed from side to side, betraying his agitation. He hunkered low to the ground, evaluating the best route to stalk the deadly creature. He'd expected his last assignment to aggravate the established players in the intergalactic drug trade, but sending a cyborg after him was unacceptable. He must have trod on some very big toes.
He sent a quick glance to the forest floor below, seeing no trace of Kaitlyn. Satisfied that she'd followed his orders and remained safely hidden, he slunk toward the cyborg, each foot carefully placed on the treacherous ground. A single rolling pebble could betray his presence to the prey.
When a mere body length separated him from his target, Jakeb crouched low to the ground, studying the angles for a long minute before he launched himself directly at the cyborg. He had the advantage of surprise. The creature stumbled beneath his weight, dropping the laser cannon over the edge as he went down. Jakeb sunk his fangs into the back of the cyborg's neck, his attempt to crush the sensitive vertebrae foiled by a heavy leather collar. Sinking razor sharp claws into the cyborg's shoulder pads, he raked his rear claws down his back, shredding the cyborg's hardened leather shirt and drawing blood.
The cyborg regained his balance and stepped away from the edge of the cliff, dropping his shoulder in a vain attempt to dislodge the giant cat. Jakeb held on and continued to rake his claws down the cyborg's back, inflicting as much damage as possible.
Changing tactics, the 'borg dropped and rolled, forcing Jakeb to release his hold or be crushed beneath his opponent's colossal body. He tumbled free and managed to land upright on all fours. Pivoting to face his opponent, he let out an earsplitting yowl of rage. The hulking beast had sealed his own death warrant the minute he'd endangered Kaitlyn.
The `borg staggered to his feet, eyes narrowed in sudden comprehension. "Were-Panther." His mouth twisted in contempt even as he pulled a wicked-looking knife out of a sheath strapped to his lower leg.
Jakeb crouched, every muscle tensed. Ready to spring, he watched for an opening.
"You're pathetic, all of you." The 'borg spat on the ground at Jakeb's feet. "You betrayed your emperor and you still couldn't protect humanity from us."
Jakeb ignored the verbal assault. They'd done what they had to do, and he wasn't about to justify himself to an assassin-for-hire. He feinted to the right, drawing back when his opponent ignored his move, countering with a high left kick.
"I'm going to gut you like the animal you are." A contemptuous sneer distorted the cyborg's face. "Then I'll go find your little female and teach her how to serve a real male."
Jakeb raised his head and snarled at the threat to Kaitlyn. Pushing off with powerfully muscled back legs, he ignored the knife and hurled himself directly at the cyborg's head, his powerful jaws clamping deep into the side of the creature's neck while his weight threw the 'borg off balance and knocked him to the ground. A quick twist of his head wrapped his teeth around the cyborg's throat and he snapped the neck with a powerful jerk. The huge body sagged to the ground, the green light quickly fading from its manic eyes.
Jakeb leapt free and snarled at the corpse, adrenaline still coursing through his body. A movement in the bushes to the right caught his attention and he crouched low, tail whipping back and forth in an agitated rhythm. He inhaled, searching for danger in the intricate weavings of the wind.
Kaitlyn!
Her musky scent affected him so much more in his panther form. He stood, massive head moving slowly side-to-side as he pinpointed her location.
There. Behind the giant cypress tree.
He sat on his haunches. Threw his head back and roared. The roar of a panther calling its mate. Loud. Demanding. Passionate.
And she came. Head held proudly aloft. Eyes sparkling with arousal and rage. She stalked across the clear space between the trees and the cliff edge, ignoring the fallen cyborg.
Jakeb called his magic, not bothering to hide the transformation from her. He felt himself shifting, fur retreating, muscles lengthening, changing as he once again took his human form. He reached out, wrapping his hand around her delicate wrist, yanking her hard up against him.
"I'm furious with you. Furious!" He glared down into her defiant eyes, silently daring her to speak, to object to his rough treatment. "What part of stay did you not understand?" He lowered his head and took her lips roughly, punishing her with tongue and his teeth. Tasting her. Reassuring himself that she was all right.

“Get out of my way, you half-breed bastard.” Pran’s words were harsh, almost indistinguishable because of the throaty growl that accompanied them.
Khalid rumbled, just barely resisting throwing Pran up against the wall. He didn’t have time for this. Baring his fangs, he watched Pran stomp away from him, itching to go after him and teach him some control.
It was almost laughable. Every time he was close to the Tigris man, his control was lost entirely. He felt like a cub again, unsure, his emotions running freely. It was all he could do to hide himself away until he was back to normal. He’d never thought he’d be placed in this position again.
For the past fifteen years Khalid had gained a reputation for being cold and calculating. Shrewd. He didn’t let his emotions control him. He could always be counted on to provide a level head, to look at things in a way that others missed.
He wondered sometimes if he would have ended up the same had he stayed on Himalay instead of moving off planet. Who would he be now? It didn’t matter, though, so there was no point dwelling on the idea. He was who he was. He would not change that because some Tigris was bent out of shape.
He still didn’t understand what Pran was doing here anyway. Fifteen years ago, they had parted in a way guaranteed to harbor resentments.
“Khalid?”
Khalid turned to the left, spying the lithe figure of his sister. Rabi’a lifted her hand, brushing back her thick chin-length hair. The strands parted briefly, the striped locks shining in the ship’s light.
“Attika.”
“Will you be all right?”
He sighed, propping his shoulder against the wall of the narrow corridor.
“Talk to me, Binnodara. Let me help you.” Rabi’a walked closer, her brown and beige tail curling to wrap around his wrist.
Khalid dredged up a smile for her, thumping his own tail along the wall. Inhaling, he let his breath out in a shuddering sigh.
“Is this about going home?” His sister’s voice lowered, her concern evident.
“No.” His ears twitched. “Maybe.”
“Khalid.”
“I don’t know what to do. So much has changed in the past few months. I don’t know what I want anymore.”
“Okay. Are you no longer happy with your brother’s pride?”
Khalid considered her question. “I don’t know where I belong anymore,” he breathed. It wasn’t anyone else’s fault. It just was.
She nodded in understanding. “The past fifteen years have seen you becoming one with your Leo family, first under your father and then Durai. This is good, is it not?”
For many years now he had been a member of his brother’s pride, following and protecting Durai as he traveled amongst the stars, learning as much as possible about the other planets and people in the universe. He loved his life. He had always felt welcomed by his Leo brothers and sister. So why was he full of unrest now? Was it just because of the presence of Pran?
“I love Durai. I always will. He is my Binnodara, just as Jai is.”
Rabi’a nodded. “It cannot be easy balancing two such different families.”
“Do you think I neglected you and Jai?” He had never considered it before, but seeing his younger brother on Earth had made him come to some realizations lately. He had left everything behind on Himalay, including his sister and brother. He barely contacted his mother and the man who had raised him as his son.
He rubbed his wrist, feeling the scars that lay there, a constant reminder of who he now was. And who he wasn’t.

Rebecca lowered her carryon bag to the foot of her bed and kicked off her low-heeled pumps. Traveling was tedious at best and today hadn’t even qualified as good. She rubbed the back of her neck and rolled her shoulders.
“Welcome back.”
A smile automatically curved her lips as she turned toward Katsu. His calm, unassuming presence never failed to soothe her. “It’s good to be home.” He stepped into the room as she unzipped the bag.
“Would you like something to eat? Unless you’ve changed significantly in the past two weeks, you grabbed a bagel and a massive cup of coffee on the way to the airport and haven’t eaten since.”
She couldn’t help but smile. “Guilty as charged.” With an audible sigh, she looked at the contents of her carryon. All the clothing would have to be laundered, which left the toiletries for her to unpack. “I’m too tired to be hungry.”
Cooking was outside the responsibilities of a personal trainer, in her estimation, but Katsu often disregarded the norm. He was part executive assistant, part sensei, and part confidant. He’d been sleeping with Bianca for the past three months and Rebecca suspected he’d like to sleep with her as well.
“Would you like me to run a bath for you?” The caressing quality in Katsu’s tone drew her gaze back to his handsome face. With a long rolling stride, he crossed the bedroom and stood beside her. Jet black hair swept back from his face, a stubborn tendril escaping to angle across his brow. The exotic tilt of his dark eyes and prominent cheekbones reflected Japanese heritage, while his height and the breadth of his shoulders revealed an Italian grandfather.
“As delightful as a bath sounds, I have too much to do before my guard dog arrives tomorrow.” She reached for her cosmetic case and his long fingers curved around her wrist.
“I can protect you, Rebecca.” He spoke her name in a whisper-soft tone that sent tingles down her spine. “There’s no need to let this… Sentinel invade your privacy.”
The subtle sneer in his voice left no doubt about his feelings. He didn’t want another man intruding on “his” territory. Her heart fluttered and their gazes locked. She’d been tempted by Katsu the first time she’d seen him, but she’d resisted the attraction. Their relationship was uncomplicated and comfortable, and she preferred it remain that way.
“If the threat were human, I’d agree,” she told him. “You’re fast and strong, easily capable of combating other humans.”
“You honestly believe a vampire is after you?”
She smiled. “Do you doubt the reality of vampires or that one would be interested in me?”
He moved closer, cupping the side of her face. “I don’t doubt your appeal. I’m captivated by you and you know it.”
Awareness arced between them. She licked her lips, enjoying the tingling heat for another moment before she stepped back. “You’re a trusted friend and valuable employee. That’s more important to me than sex.”
“Sex doesn’t have to ruin our friendship.” He recaptured the space between them, lightly resting his hands on her hips. “This is the natural culmination of our mutual attraction.”
“I know you’re sleeping with Bianca. Isn’t that enough?”
He framed her face between his palms, desire gleaming in his eyes. “Bianca told me to bend you over the bed and fuck you fast and hard until you stopped denying that you want me.”
Lust curled through her body as the graphic image took shape within her mind. Katsu was always polite and patient. He smiled and patted her hand when she wanted to be overwhelmed by passion.
“That sounds like Bianca.” Her nocturnal twin had always been more sexually aggressive, more certain of her desire. “I never denied my attraction to you. The situation is more complicated than what I want.”
Leaning down, he brushed her lips with his. “Only because you complicate it.”
“Bianca doesn’t have to think about the ramifications of --”
He silenced her objections with a kiss. His mouth pressed over hers and his tongue traced the seam of her lips. Heat pooled between her thighs, and an odd heaviness expanded within her chest. Why had he waited so long to confront her? The timing couldn’t be worse.
For just a moment she relaxed into the embrace, tempted to surrender. The kiss was gentle, patient. Her obligations loomed and she grew restless. Grasping his upper arms, she arched away, turning her head sharply to the side.
“Starting tomorrow I’ll have a bodyguard with me night and day.”
His lips grazed the side of her face, his breath warm and moist against her ear. “It might only take them a day or two to track down the vampire. Besides, we still have tonight.”
She didn’t want a hurried tumble and the inevitable awkwardness that would follow once the Sentinel arrived. She wanted endless nights of carnal abandon and a lover assertive enough to control her. Her mind stumbled over the word control. Did she want to be controlled? No, more like guided. She wanted a lover strong enough to guide her.
“I’ll transform. You and Bianca can --”
Another kiss interrupted her suggestion. “I don’t want half of you. I want all of you.”

Excerpt:

Even though she wasn't taking time off, and had turned down her best friends' repeated efforts to get her to join them on vacation, Delle woke feeling as if it were time for a spring break. She didn't regret her decision to stay at home, exactly -- "sun, sea, sand, and sex," as Honey had put it, weren't what she was in the mood for. Even when they'd all been in college, she hadn't really enjoyed wild parties -- and as much as she loved her friends, she knew herself well enough not to get dragged along on one of their extreme vacations. But she felt a little wistful all the same. Maybe she should take a few days off and find something fun to do.Usually she liked to spend days off fussing with her collection, but the shelves of dolls she'd lovingly bought over the years were in perfect order; she'd gotten stuck on a project last week and had gotten unblocked by free-associating while she rearranged and re-dressed her toys. She showered and dressed, still trying to think of something she wanted to do -- and had almost given up and decided to spend the day working -- when her doorbell rang. Still toweling her hair dry, she peered through the security peephole to see two deliverymen and an enormous crate. What the hell? She hadn't ordered anything. But that was definitely her name and address on the form one bored-looking guy thrust at her. She signed, puzzled, and gave him back the clipboard. "You want us to bring this inside for you?" the other one asked sympathetically, and she nodded. Delle was five-foot-four; whatever was in that crate was at least a foot taller. And heavy, she noted, because the two guys struggled to drag it over the threshold and wrestle it into place against the wall. She thanked them, and carefully locked the door once they'd left. Delle loved having her own place, but she was cautious about security. There was an envelope taped to the front of the box. She opened it and groaned. It was in Honey's handwriting. Honey ("Call me Honoria and die," as she invariably introduced herself) usually meant well, but she had a taste for adventure and a talent for chaos that her friends had learned to be wary of. For our favorite Girl Gone Mild, it read. If we can't convince you to come with us and meet a guy, we're just going to have to find one to send you. Consider this a placeholder. He's every bit the homebody you are, won't cheat on you, and can keep you company until we get back. Love you. All three of them had signed the note. Delle eyed the crate with trepidation. There could be anything in there. Honey's sense of humor could be more than a little over the top. Please, Delle prayed, don't let there be an actual person in there. It was one thing to have her friends, who'd known her forever, tease her about her reluctance to get romantically involved with anyone. If they'd talked some guy into getting delivered to her as a joke about her single status, it would cross the line from amusing to humiliating. She knew they meant well, but sometimes her friends made her feel she took life too seriously -- and sometimes she felt frustrated and alone, isolated by her inability to take life as casually as they all seemed to, and to shrug off the occasional heartbreak as easily. Why did it always look so effortless for them? She shook off the mild depression that was threatening to settle over her, and grabbed a crowbar from her toolbox. Returning to the crate, she grinned at the idea that if there was an intruder inside, at least she was well armed. It took her close to a half-hour to pry off the front of the box. When she finally lowered it to the floor she was sweating and disgruntled. She pulled out the layer of fake straw that had been used as packing material, and stood frozen in shock. It was a doll. But this wasn't any ordinary doll. He was as tall as a living man, and gorgeous. For several minutes she was too shocked -- and, in a strange way, impressed -- to do more than stare. And then she realized, with horror, what this must be. Oh, God. It was a sex doll. Even though she was alone in her apartment, Delle blushed hotly. Okay, this wasn't funny: it was mortifying. Why on earth had her friends bought her this thing? Except she knew why: it was exactly the sort of joke Honey couldn't resist. But this was a pretty expensive joke, Delle guessed. The doll was exquisitely made. She reached out one trembling hand and touched the smooth, cool surface of his cheek, almost unable to believe he wasn't alive.

Sometimes, when you reach the end of the road, you find a twist you didn’t expect. A hill rises, a trail breaks away and to your surprise, the end has become the beginning.

Lieutenant Milo Green’s career is all that keeps him on his feet and functioning. He’s lost everyone he ever loved, and now, only the job holds him together. When he looks to the future, he sees no reprieve.
And then one day he looks up and sees his destiny standing in the doorway.

Darah Lash is the most powerful Thalian present on Earth. Yet, to his people, he is a second class citizen. He came to Earth with the small, desperate hope that he would find a woman who would accept him, mate him, and eventually bear his children. What he doesn’t expect to find is love.

Grace Chen is a wrecked shell of a woman. Once admired and feared, she is now on the brink of death, fighting for every day, every hour. In a vision, she is told to wait for the miracle, but it hasn’t come yet. And if that miracle comes, will the cost be too high?

Three paths end, one road begins.
Destination: Black Planet.

UNEDITED EXCERPT:

Holy shit-on-a-stick!

Grace stayed rooted where she stood as the two men embraced, mere inches from her. She very nearly felt the heat of their bodies from the other side of the thin barrier.

Her heart twisted as it so often did when she looked at Milo, at the man she’d surrendered in the name of duty.

Back then, she’d been a stupid, stupid girl, thinking she could walk away, save the world, and then come back to find him waiting.

That’s just not how it worked now, was it?

As Darah broke the kiss, those dark blue eyes of his flashed with unearthly light, meeting hers with a feral intensity. That intensity had been present from the time they met, and had been growing by the day.

She licked her lips nervously, noting that his eyes watched the movement. She stifled a shiver, feeling warmth and moisture escape her body.

You are the loveliest female I’ve ever seen.

She blinked, glancing at Milo to see what his response was, but he acted as though Darah hadn’t spoken. She met Darah’s eyes once more.
I feel his desire for you. I want you. I want us all…

She blinked, aware of a tickle behind her forehead. Grace stepped back, wrapping her mind around what was happening.

She’d heard his thoughts.

A smile slowly creased his face as Darah began to suspect what was happening in Grace’s head.

“Milo, stand up.”

She watched as Milo slowly rose; Darah moved the chair away and stepped up behind the man once again. The look on the Thalian’s face twisted her gut, sweat bloomed on her skin as she watched, the men moved even closer to the barrier. Just inches away, Darah stopped, wrapping an arm around Milo’s waist, his hand slipping under his jacket, into his shirt.

She watched.

Darah’s wings slowly expanded, his head ducked, nuzzling at Milo’s jaw, the other man’s eyes dropped shut in pleasure. Darah began unbuttoning the crisp white shirt; his hand searching out Milo’s hardened nipples. With his free hand, he pulled the shirt loose from Milo’s black trousers.

“You wish you were touching him.”

She met his eye and nodded slightly. Grace stood perfectly still, watching the slow stripping of Milo. Darah’s hand dropped, unbuckling Milo’s belt, opening his pants. She felt her lips part slightly as Milo’s cock came into view, hard and ruddy, a glistening tear running down the head.

“Shall I make him come for you?”

Her mouth went dry.

Step closer.

She obeyed the whisper in her mind, stepping forward until she pressed against the barrier. It was surprisingly supple, thin as silk. Darah pushed Milo forward; through the plastic, she felt his warmth. Grace lifted a hand, palm open, and Milo reached up, placing his palm against hers.

She felt a painful hitch in her breath…it felt so good to touch…to be touched. She let her head drift forward, until their foreheads met, resting together. For the first time since she’d been brought in, Grace freely allowed memories to rush through her mind. Milo, nearly a decade ago, black hair glossy and bright in the sun; his grey eyes were sometimes moody and sad, but more often bright with laughter. She remembered seeing him that first time, a big white man in a black suit. He was quiet and dangerous, his fierce passion held under tight control.

From where she stood, looking down at his bare torso, she could see that he was still muscular, his abdomen still ridged with muscle. She looked down further, and saw the hand of his new lover, touching where she used to touch.

Darah’s big hand clasped Milo’s cock, stroking gently, slowly, as he watched her through hooded eyes. As he stroked, his hips rocked gently into Milo’s ass in gentle parody of the act.

“Milo, have you ever…?”

“No. Not yet.”

He’d never allowed Darah to take him. He wasn’t repulsed or afraid, she could see that. One side of her mouth pulled up into a smile. Without moving her head, her eyes shot upward, meeting Darah’s gaze. A similar smile edged onto his face.

“Now that’s something I’d like to see.”

For the next two hours Tom had nothing to do but revel in the sensations that awaited on the other side of the inner door. Might as well relax and luxuriate in the prospect of an afternoon free from the demands of being Tom Baldwin, actor and heartthrob. Funny really, he got mountains of letters, e-mails, boxes of chocs and offers of lunch, homemade cakes and sex from women all over the country, but the only one who truly satisfied and understood him waited on the other side of the stained glass door.
And she would soon… He smiled. Couldn’t help it. Even back in his boarding school days, when the other boys had salivated -- and masturbated -- over illicit copies of Gentleman’s Pleasure or Bouncy Babes, he’d imagined a strong, beautiful woman who took total charge.
He was damn lucky he was rich enough to afford her. Not that he’d ever, in a million years, ever breathe a word about their relationship. Lord, what would the scandal rags make of it?
The inner door clicked open and a strong, clear female voice said, “Come on in, Tom. I’m ready.”
He bet she was.
He stood, ran his hands through his hair, squared his shoulders and smiled as he pushed the door open and walked into Claudine’s parlor.
She was wearing her usual sweatsuit, a gorgeous scarlet one this time, and she watched as he crossed the length of the Turkish carpet.
“Claudine,” he said, inclining his head. That little gesture of respect sent a shiver of anticipation down to his cock.
“Afternoon, Tom,” she replied. “Punctual as usual. Have a seat.” She indicated the leather floor cushion by her chair.
He sat, glad of the hours of fencing, dance and gymnastics that let him sit down gracefully. One just didn’t thump down on the floor beside Claudine.
“Well,” she said, stroking his head and pulling it closer so he rested against her thigh. “Had a busy morning?”
“An argument with the scriptwriters over the next two installments of the new series, and lunch with an old school friend.”
“Good lunch?”
“Food was. Trouble is,” he paused and she waited. She always did, never interrupted. At least not when he talked. “He’s dying to introduce me to one of his sisters. Nice chap, has a slew of sisters, some already hitched to nice blokes…” Hell, might as well say it. She knew what he was like. “I can’t see myself settling down with a nice woman, buying a house in Surrey and spending family holidays in the Dordogne.”
He loved her laugh. He reminded himself he might love what she did, but he didn’t love her. Only what she could do to him. “No, Tom, I can’t see you happy in the Home Counties.”
He agreed. Growing up in Oxshott had been quite enough.
“All right.” She gave him a pat on his shoulder. “I want you naked, and you’d better be ready when I come in.”
Didn’t take him long. Once in the changing room, he tucked his socks in his shoes, put his trousers in the press and his jacket, shirt and tie on the mahogany valet. He emptied the contents of his pockets onto the side table.
And couldn’t help noticing the leather cock ring beside the box of condoms.
So, she was trying that today, was she? He’d not complain.
Naked, he tightened the band of leather around the base of his cock. Seeing it on the table top had spurred on his erection. Now he was upstanding and ready. Better put the condom on.
Funny really, how he so longed for what Claudine offered. Vanilla sex was fun, and he had plenty of offers, many of which he’d accepted over the years, but what Claudine gave was sheer and utter bliss.
He pulled aside the velvet curtain and walked into Claudine’s play room. A dark oak St. Andrew’s cross stood in the middle of the open space. Tom smiled. Claudine waited. A many tailed flogger -- a red one -- hung from her right hand. She’d shed the sweatsuit and now wore spandex tights and top. She looked ready for, or to give, a tough workout. “You know what to do, boy!”

Sayana can have any man she wants -- and he'll pay for the privilege. As a Nil Rajan courtesan of great renown, she's in the rare position of choosing which clients she’ll allow to share her bed.
Only two men have ever been invited for free. One is her friend and assistant, a quiet, watchful Antillan who's deadly with a weapon and highly skilled in bed. His name is Janus Valdec, and he's the one person Sayana truly trusts. The other is Captain Rider, a pirate with eyes like space trash who touched more than just her body in a chance encounter three years ago.

Rider figured out her most closely-held secret, and she's been on the run from him ever since. When an attack on her ship leaves Sayana vulnerable, she's forced to choose which of these two men she can trust -- not just with her heart, but with her life.

Some people’s fantasies are really weird.
For instance, if you’d told me a week ago that a pair of heterosexual males would be paying me to pretend to be an IAC Huntership captain so that they could fuck me in tandem, I’d have… well, actually I wouldn’t have laughed, because I’ve done weirder things.
The man kneeling under the com desk -- who had asked to be called Ensign -- was lapping enthusiastically at my pussy, while I leaned forward over the desk, legs parted to give his friend -- Lieutenant -- a better view. Lieutenant was in the Commander’s chair -- a flagrant breach of protocol, but since the three of us were half dressed and fucking like bunnies, I don’t suppose it mattered.
Lieutenant had his shirt open and was fondling himself through his pants as I watched him on the little screen on my desk. His cock was hugely swollen, but I hadn’t given him leave to unclothe himself yet.
“Prime the thrusters,” I purred, gripping the console as Ensign’s tongue circled my throbbing clit. “We need to probe inside the Nil Raja nebula.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Lieutenant said, his voice a little strained.
“What do you suggest we use, Lieutenant?”
He gave a little squeak. There was sweat beading on his upper lip.
“It’s a tight nebula,” I said. “But we’ll need to be thorough.”
“Yes, ma’am,” he moaned.
I straightened up, tugging down the tunic I still wore, and swayed over to the nav console. Valdec and I had done a decent job of mocking up the bridge of an IAC ship, if I said so myself. I’d hired a suite in one of the more freespirited hotels and Valdec had paid one of the scrap merchants on Spaceport Adana to find some disused consoles and panels to decorate the place with. None of them worked, aside from the viewscreens I’d rigged to give us all a view of what was going on. In my experience, men are visual creatures. Whatever their species.
At the nav console, I leaned over so that both men could see my pussy. Hairless, and marked with the patterns of my Otha caste, simply the sight of it could cost a pretty penny.
Ensign and Lieutenant were clearly both much better off than their alter-egos.
“Thrusters to full,” I said, and glanced back to see both of them gripping themselves through their clothes. IAC uniforms consisted of matching pants and tunic over a tailored shirt, although I’d foregone the shirt. And the pants, after about thirty seconds. I wore my high, glossy black boots and tunic, which I’d slowly untabbed so that my breasts were mostly visible.
Like I said, visual creatures.
Turning, I cupped my breasts and stretched so that my tunic rode up above my pussy. “I think enviro is malfunctioning,” I said. “It’s so hot in here.” I unfastened the last tab on my tunic. “Permission granted to… make yourselves more comfortable.”
They were both undressed in seconds. Ensign hit his head on the underside of the com console, but he didn’t seem to mind. Truth told, I don’t think he even noticed.
“Lieutenant,” I said, eyeing his honed muscles and throbbing cock, “I think you need to take over at the nav. I prefer the com right now.”
So saying, I sauntered back to the com, with its waiting Ensign, who once again willingly latched onto my pussy. I sighed happily and let my tunic fall to the floor, totally naked and totally happy about it. As Ensign’s tongue pleasured me, Lieutenant palmed his cock, and I shook my head at him.
“I haven’t given you permission to engage the probe yet,” I said, and crooked my finger. “Why don’t you come here and share your data with me?”
Valdec and I had spent hours coming up with these terrible euphemisms. By the end of it, I’d had tears of laughter running down my face, and Valdec had almost cracked a smile. For him, that’s an expression of hilarity.

Tonight, "Auld Reekie" lived up to its name.
Miri shivered in the dank mist that clung to her hair and clothes and almost entirely obliterated the dismal street ahead. She wondered if she should risk approaching the one faint glow in the dark -- which had to be the World's End pub -- and find some warmth.
The trouble was, you got better trade through discretion. Men were warier of paying for their pleasures in front of friends. And God knew she needed customers tonight. Billie would be furious if she didn't bring in some money. She really didn't want to give him an excuse to rage, or to sell her on, not now with all this going on…
And as her unquiet stomach reminded her, another day without food would leave her weak and open to illness.
Miri drew her thin, shabby shawl more closely around her, and shifted from one foot to another in a vain attempt to prevent the damp seeping through the holes in her ancient boots.
She thought she heard something -- a shuffling sound muffled by the thick, smoke-laden fog. It came from behind her, at the steep steps leading down to the least savory part of the city. The hairs on the back of her neck prickled, forcing her into motion.
She took a few hurried steps forward, nearer the pub's welcoming glow, careful to keep hold of the small, sharp scissors in her pocket.
How are customers meant to see me in this pea-soup? she wondered miserably. Why are none of them on the street yet?
Because they're all safe and cozy in the pubs, gossiping with delicious shivers, no doubt, about the disappearing girls. Like Jeanie.
Her empty stomach twisted. The loss of her friend and mentor was huge. She missed her companionship, her laughter, her sheer practical good-sense. She hated to imagine what had happened to Jeanie and to the others… This was Edinburgh's old town -- rank, filthy, smoky, riddled with dark passages and grim corners where murder could be done without interruption…
Three men loomed out of the mist, almost on top of her. Startled, she fell back with a silent gasp of terror...
