Tasty Tuesday -- Homemade Hot Apple Cider

I adore warm beverages around the Holidays. They tickle my memories and relax my body. I'm going to share my Homemade Hot Apple Cider recipe with you. It's super easy to make and is guaranteed to keep a smile on your face. So curl up with a cup and read your favorite naughty tale.

Hot Apple Cider

  • 1 quart apple juice
  • 2 cups water
  • 5 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 oranges, sliced (leave the peel on)
In large pot combine apple juice, water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, orange and bring to a boil
Reduce and simmer for 15 minutes or longer.

Note: I'll usually make larger batches and let it simmer for up to two hours to concentrate the flavor. Add more or less cloves as needed to really make this cider yours. If you don't have fresh oranges, you can substitute 8 oz of orange juice (with or without pulp).

Serve
Serves 4-6

Tasty Tuesday - An Icing to Die For

There are few things in this world that get my heart pounding and my mouth watering. One is a sexy and delicious romance (whether I read it, watch it, or experience it with my own Knight-in-not-so-shiny-armor, it's just as exciting!). The other is a decadent dessert that makes me forget, for just a little while, all the craziness that comes with being an erotic romance author on deadline as well as a mom, cook, housemouse, wife, lover, etc.

Today I'm going to introduce you to An Icing To Die For...White Chocolate Mousse. It's the perfect companion to The Better Than Sex Cupcake recipe found at the end of my Red Velvet Christmas story: Hidden Confection.

Take a look at the results of this recipe. What do you think? Delicious, no?

My husband and I worked for weeks to find the perfect blend of dark chocolate and red velvet to make a moist and delicious cupcake. The icing itself was a family favorite. Together...dynamite.

Without further ado, I present The Better Than Sex Red Velvet Cupcake Icing to Die For:

(recipe is modified from SuperChef's, my husband's, site, cbsop.com. Posted here with permission. All right's reserved)

ICING TO DIE FOR

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces white chocolate baking bars, coarsely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla

Heat cream in a 1 small saucepan until just boiling (also known as scalding the cream)

Place white chocolate into a heat proof bowl and pour hot cream over chocolate. Allow to sit for approximately 3 minutes, then stir until smooth.

Stir in vanilla and refrigerate until extremely cold (approximately 1 1/2 hours), stirring occasionally. Mixture will be thin.

In a large bowl, beat cold chocolate mixture with an electric mixer on medium speed for about a minute or until chocolate begins to thicken. Switch to high speed and mix until stiff peaks form (Note: if it won’t go to stiff peaks, it’s not cold enough, so place it back in the fridge for a half hour and then continue beating).

Pipe as needed onto cooled cupcakes. Important note here...if the cupcake is anything but room temperature or cooler, the mousse won't hold up well.

If you'd like to see the delicious recipe for Mia Devyne's Better Than Sex Cupcakes, pick up Hidden Confection from Changeling Press December 5th or your favorite e-store as they're uploaded.

Bonus for buying at Changeling...each Red Velvet book purchased gives you an entry into Changeling Press's annual event:

Four years later, a rival pastry chef has arrived on the scene with his own version of the cakes, and Mia can't stay away. For a Christmas present to herself, she wants to try just one bite of the Better Than Sex cupcake, and then she'll disappear back into the shadows. If she gets to kiss Liam again, well, that's just an added bonus.

Liam Merriman has one goal... draw the sexy Mia out of hiding and back to the spotlight where she belongs. He knows why she disappeared all those years ago, and he plans on picking up where they left off. Naked. In his bed.

Luke Klaus has a problem. Christmas will be canceled if he can't get Destiny, Texas, back on the Holiday Cheer Map. A Christmas wish is all that stands between him and a perfect record. His target is packed with killer curves and a heart of gold that's been broken one too many times. Lucky for Luke, mixing a little business with pleasure might be just what the holiday doctor ordered.
Noella Davis is tired. Too many years as Destiny's cheer coordinator has left her drained and disillusioned. Is it a coincidence that brings her face-to-face with her old crush, or does the man in black leather have his own agenda? Either way, she'll have her cake and eat it too even if she has to tie him to the bed. Maybe her Christmas wishes will come true...
This really is a case for The Other Klaus.

No woman should look so sexy in a Santa hat and knee-high boots. He imagined the festive stockings she wore ended in whimsical lace at her thighs, with little ribbons tied to a garter belt. No panties. He was definitely imagining no panties. Too bad the black skirt was a bit too demure to prove him right... or wrong. The forest green of her silk shirt shone brilliantly against pale skin and bright red hair. She was a tempting little Christmas gift just begging to be unwrapped.
Luke shook his head. This was no way to keep his mind on work.
She stalked back and forth across her living room, her whiskey voice low and full of fury. Luke almost felt sorry for whoever was on the other end of the phone. He shouldn't have found it hot, but there were very few things about Noella Davis that didn't get him going one way or the other. Countless nights he'd imagined that sexy voice whispering lustful little suggestions, begging for what he could give her.
He sighed, and adjusted his jeans to make room for his hardening cock.
"I do not need more excitement in my life." She huffed out a breath in irritation. "Fine. No. It won't happen. Don't expect me there." She mashed the screen of her cell with both thumbs until it vibrated in her hands. Another caller. Already. Noella looked up. Fierce rage and hurt reflected in the depths of her expressive brown eyes. "Touch screens just don't provide the same satisfaction that a real button or regular phone does."
Luke grinned. "You could always throw it across the room."
"It's damn tempting."
Luke walked away from the door, letting it shut gently behind him. He leaned against the archway support leading into her living room. "You must be really popular."
Noella threw the phone onto the couch and shoved a pillow on top of it. "Or really pissed off."
"The family?" He held out his hands and Noella grabbed them, allowing him to pull her into a friendly hug. Too bad his mind was thinking past friendship to the press of her soft body against his.
Noella sighed, and Luke bit back a groan. Her curvy little body was sending his into a riot of lust. "Why don't you just turn off your phone?"
"Muffling it is far more satisfying." She pulled back from the hug, and a spark of mischief replaced her fury. "I can pretend I'm suffocating my brother that way."
"Good call. Though that would be hard to do with him halfway across the world."
She laughed. "It was good to talk to him. I miss him a lot." Her lashes lowered becomingly, and a lovely blush dusted her cheeks.
He wondered, fleetingly, if she tasted as good as she looked. She brushed her cheek against his shirt-covered chest. Did she hear his heart thundering? Sexual tension crackled between them.
"Luke?" Her fingers trailed beneath his leather jacket.
"Noella." He settled his hands on her shoulders. Her pulse fluttered against his thumbs.
"I was thinking..." The minx scraped her nails down his back in light whorls of incredible sensation.
Who the hell could think at a time like this? Luke cupped her face, tilting her chin so he could see her eyes. "Am I the cure for your lack of excitement?"
Self-doubt slid over her expression, and Luke didn't let her go when she tried to move away. He dipped his head to press a light kiss on her nose. "I need to know where I stand, snowflake." Her nose wrinkled at the childhood nickname.
"What do you mean?" Her arms still wrapped around him, but her fingers had stopped their delicious exploration.
"I mean..." Luke dipped his head and did what he'd dreamed of for so long. He kissed her.

I'd like to lick the cream off his fingers. Sebastian, king of cats, was sunbathing in a rafter above the cooking exhibition. Her familiar was always interested in food. That's what made them such a good pair.

Krista eyed the broad expanse of Chase Hamilton's chest and licked her lips. The polo stretched enticingly across muscles that bulged nicely with his efficient movements in the studio kitchen. There were other places she wanted to lick. And cream wasn't the only thing on the menu. Her gaze slid down his strong legs and back up to the devilishly charming smile on his face.

Do you think he's what we're looking for? Bastian's amusement slid through the thought-speak.

Krista brushed a stray lock of her bright copper tresses behind her ear. He was definitely what she was looking for. Her magic needed a little sexual tune-up. No doubt tall, dark, and kickass in the kitchen would do nicely for a little holiday treat.

Bastian's chuckle echoed in her thoughts, and she shot a glare up to the rafters. With a gleam of his eyes he disappeared into the shadows. Coward.

It is always better to retreat and fight another day than to suffer a redhead's wrath. My mother was a calico. I know these things.

Chase put the finishing flourishes on his festive dish, and the crowd cheered. She had to admit, the sinful creation was definitely mouthwatering. Krista clapped along with the others and then smoothed a hand over her fitted jacket. It wouldn't do for her to look shabby. She was recruiting, after all.

It was time for a taste test. Time to find out if Chase Hamilton was a good candidate for the Kitchen Witch Society. She reached down into the well of her magic where it settled in her core. A light tap, an invitation, was all she needed. Feral heat uncoiled from deep within. It would turn into a raging inferno before the night was out, no doubt about it. Krista let a sigh slip from her lips at the familiar lustful ache. Christmas time was her biggest recruiting season, and she'd been tapping into her resources way too often. It would be date night with her toys again if Chase wasn't interested. Hell, for all she knew, he was taken.

Magic slipped from her in a soft caress through her skin, lingering, searching. She was a talent scout with passive magic. One touch and she'd know.

Krista made her way to the set. Her radar slid from her, questing for the taste of magic she needed. Her focus was so intent that she didn't notice the drop-dead-gorgeous brunette tilting her head flirtatiously toward Chase until the woman cut her eyes at Krista.

Chase, huh? Already on a first-name basis? This is going to be very fun.

Krista shot venomous thoughts to Sebastian but got only light humor in response.

"I would really like to discuss this. Over dinner perhaps?" Now the woman was touching his bare arm.

Krista clenched her jaw. Chase looked down at her hand on his arm and looked up. "I'm already booked for the rest of the time I'm in town." He pulled away, and Krista's eyebrows rose.

"You do know who I work for, right?" Undeterred, she slid her fingers across his shoulders to tuck under his collar. He gently extracted her fingers from his shirt. Krista couldn't help the smile that touched her lips. This woman wasn't used to being told no. "I know who you work for. I've told your representatives on several occasions that I'm not interested. My date for the evening should be here any moment."

He removed his apron, and Krista's radar went off. Well that was new. She almost always had to touch the person for her magic to react. His head lifted, and Krista was pierced to the soul by the intensity of his expression. Magic was in his soul. He was a candidate, all right. The part of her that did this for a living was smug. The woman part of her was starstruck. Damn it.

The rugged lines of his face entranced her. Perfect for the camera. She dug her fingers into her jacket to keep from reaching out to touch him. Before she knew it, they were close enough to kiss. His lips lifted in a conspiratorial smile. He was obviously looking for a stand-in date. Maybe she could save the day.

I can do this.

She smiled at him. "Sorry I'm late." Her voice was breathless.

Mischief lit his expression, and his charming smile made her knees weak. "You're right on time, as always." He set the apron down and held out his arms. It was the most natural thing to step in and let herself be surrounded by his strength. She breathed deeply, and the scent of spices, warm male, and all the memories of holidays well spent flooded her. Her passive magic was also jumping off the charts.

A soft throb began deep within her. Heat flushed her cheeks, and she was thankful for the coat that covered the peaking of her suddenly hard nipples.

She looked up. And up. He was a lot taller than she'd first thought.

"I've missed you." He gave her the lightest kiss she'd ever felt. Like the brush of wings on her lips. Her mouth opened on a sigh, and he pressed just enough to give her a taste of him. She tasted Chase... and sugar cookies.

Dakota Raynes has come home for one reason and one reason only... to lay claim on the woman meant to be his mate. Six years away has given him time to get the beast under control so he could be the man he thinks she needs. Now if she'd just stop being so damn stubborn!

Lily Deacon has had it with alpha men and their need to push her around. So Dakota thinks he can just waltz right in and take up where he left off? Oh, she'll let him play all right, but only by her rules. His little Lily is all grown up, and she has a few tricks of her own.

When these two wolves collide, the county will feel the clash all the way to their boots.

Lily was furious. Six years should have taken the edge off her lust for Dakota Raynes, but the hard-bodied former soldier was everything her little heart had dreamed he would be. And the bastard was wearing jeans! She picked up another empty beer bottle and slammed it on her tray.

“That’s one man who could win a sexiest ass competition without ever taking off his jeans.” Rebecca Lynn’s smile was full of regret and lust. “He’s one man I wouldn’t mind unwrapping for Christmas.”

Lily eyed Dakota’s ass from beneath lowered lashes. “Eh, it’s all right.” All right, hell. She’d give anything to scrape her nails on it. Then whip his ass good for bailing out of town without even so much as a goodbye. Though the idea of having him wrapped up in a bow did have merit.

“Keep telling yourself that, baby. I won’t hold it against you later.” Rebecca chuckled and turned back to filling mugs.

Lily grabbed the other beers and picked up the tray, balancing it with a precision born of too much practice. She blew at a loose tendril of hair that always seemed to find its way across her eye. One more semester after Christmas break, and then she could get away from small towns that still needed the AC in the middle of December.

“Lily Deacon, you are a sight for sore eyes.” The rumble of his voice in her ear made Lily’s hands shake. He was too close to her. Way too close. She set the tray down at her table and handed out the beers. The boys gave her a quick smile and went back to their game of spades.

She tucked the tray against her stomach and gave Dakota her darkest stare, the one that sent most men running for the hills. His sensual lips twitched. “What do you want?”

The warmth in his eyes diminished a bit. “I don’t even get a hello?”

“Hello, Dakota. What do you want?”

“Well that’s easy.” He moved closer so that she could smell the tantalizing scent of smoked meat and warm male. “Merry Christmas, Lily.”

“You’re a little early this year, and too many years too late for the others.” She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to block out the memory of their first touch, but it was too late. Her mind went back to the night he’d first kissed her. His tongue. Gods, his tongue had done incredible things to her body. She drew in a shaky breath and opened her eyes.

“I’m not going anywhere. Not ever again.”

She squelched the tiny flutter of hope in her heart. “Until tomorrow? Then what? Go back to whatever hole you crawled from, Dakota. I’m not interested.” She turned on her heel and would have stalked away had he not grabbed her arm.

“Now wait just a damned minute.”

The scrape of chairs against the floor echoed in the suddenly quiet bar.

“Boy, I know it’s been a while since you’ve been here, but you’d best be taking your paws off Miss Lily unless you mean to claim her.” The slow drawl of Tex MacCallahan held the chill of winter.

The hackles rose on all the men in the bar, and Lily jerked her gaze to Rebecca Lynn. The dark-haired beauty shook her head and went back to her glasses.

“She’s mine.”

Tex raised his eyebrows. “Is that true, Lily?”

Her heart thundered in her chest, and the wolf inside screamed her need to be taken. Well, fuck that. He wants me; he’s going to have to earn it at this point. Lily jerked out of his grasp. “He holds no claim to me.”

The quiet murmurs rumbling through the bar set her nerves on edge. Part growl and part words, they told her most of them were close to slipping their skin.

Tex smiled. “Glad to hear it. I think that means you and I have a little something to prove, puppy.” The growl following his words was no longer human. Lily stared at him like he’d lost his mind. Tex had never shown any interest in her.

“What did you have in mind?”

“Chase and claim,” Rebecca Lynn called out, as she leaped over the bar in a move that would have made an Olympic hurdler proud. “Let her go, Dakota. If you’re man enough, you’ll stake your claim.” She jerked her head to the door. “Everybody out. Bar’s closed.”

The wolves all moved in a blur of speed. Some slipped their skin and loped through the door; others strolled out. None complained. There was a helluva show coming.

Tex shifted, and a gorgeous black wolf stood in his place. He winked and lolled his tongue before padding out the door. Dakota stared at Lily, a pained expression in his eyes. “You denied my claim.”

Lily gently took her wrist out of his hold. “No, Dakota. You never made one. Not ’til tonight. Funny how it took another man’s interest to get you to tell me yours.”

His eyes glinted with steely determination. “You will be mine, Lily.”

“You’ll have to catch me first.”

The un-life sucks when you're the only female vampire in the world allergic to chocolate.

Chocolate goes well with... everything.

Raine flipped over the menu and shoved the paper in front of my view. "Why are you torturing yourself?"
I flashed fang at her and she rolled her eyes. "Vamp someone else, honey. You know you can't have chocolate."
I sighed and pushed the paper out of the way. The display case was full of chocolate decadence of every grade and color. I moaned and scratched my nails against the glass. If someone would have told me becoming a vampire would have caused a recessive food allergy to develop, I would have chosen staying alive over being undead. Not that I had much choice in the first place. My mouth watered. Just one bite. I could take a nibble.
"Forget about it. The last time you did that you scared off my customers with your undead... death." Raine shooed me away, but my eyes remained fixated on my goal.
"It really sucks having a psychic friend."
"Seriously, you're going to make me quit my job if you don't stop drooling over my glass displays. Besides, you're creeping out my customers."
I sighed. She was probably right. I licked my lips and dragged my gaze away from the chocolates I'd never get to enjoy again. "I'd do just about anything to be able to eat chocolate again."
Raine shook her head, and her eyes took on that unfocused glaze I'd come to know so well. "You shouldn't have said that. Slapped fate in the face with your vow. You should be careful what you wish for."
I tucked a stray bit of hair behind my ear, unnerved by Raine's sudden loss of focus. "I really hate it when you get that creepy mystical voice thing going."
Raine's eyes refocused and she sighed. "You're going to have a visitor soon. I hope you're ready for him."
"Him?" I perked up considerably. Then a thought occurred to me. "This isn't a visited by three ghosts thing, is it?"
Raine rolled her eyes. "No. Make fun all you want, but you'll owe me for this one. Trust me."
I raised an eyebrow. "Like I owed you for the tall, dark, and dangerous man who would change my life?"
"He did! I was right, but you know how this stuff works. I couldn't see everything."
"He was a vampire, Raine."
She shushed me. "Keep your voice down and stop pretending like you're unhappy being undead. I know better."
I sighed. "Yes. I enjoy being a vampire. I just want to be able to eat chocolate. I even took Erin's suggestion and contacted the Kitchen Witch Society for help."
"Oh, that's desperate. She always talks about how much she hates her boss. Why would she suggest the society?"
"An unlifetime without chocolate is hell for this Hershey girl. She got tired of my whining." I leaned over the counter and gave her a bit of a hug. "I'll see you later tonight."
Raine hesitated a moment before holding up a finger. "Wait a second." She ducked behind the counter. I rose to my tiptoes trying to see what she was doing, but she came back up again. A burgundy bag was in her hand.
"What is this?"
"Chocolate. I've got a good feeling about this chocolate thing, so make sure you don't eat anything from this bag until you get your cure."
The edge of doubt crept into the back of my mind. "What if there is no cure?"
Raine handed me the bag. "There is. If you're willing to try for it." Raine gave me a kiss on the cheek. "Don't do anything I wouldn't do."
I grinned, bag in hand, and gave another longing look toward the candy displays. "I hope it's some of the chocolate and peanut butter truffles."
Her smile told me she was up to something. "Let's just say, it might be fun to find out. Don't open it until you're given the cure."
I wasn't kidding. I'd do just about anything to be able to eat chocolate again. But a promise was a promise. "I won't open it until then." My heart ached with the likelihood of never being able to open the bag.
I put on my sunglasses and walked out of Sinful Treats. Yeah, I wear sunglasses at night. So what? Light sensitivity is big on my list of downers about this whole vampire thing.
I'd sent a message to the Kitchen Witch Society for help. How long would it take for one of their people to show up? This bag smelled delicious!

"I'm not here to ask for another chance. I just wanted to let you know you were right."
Riley crossed his arms. "About what?"
"About all of it. The bike wasn't an excuse. It really did start sputtering right outside of town. I wanted to come in and chat with you and then leave you to your life."
"You are a piece of work, baby."
"Yeah. I expected you to say something like that." She turned her head and started rifling through her saddlebag. "I can pay you."
Before he could think, Riley moved close enough to snake her wrist in a loose grip. "Oh you'll pay me, Tara. The question is, how far are you willing to go?"
He felt her tremble at his touch. "I don't play games anymore, Riley. One-night stands and bullshit are behind me."
He tugged her close and inhaled the rich scent of his woman. Too many years had passed without her. "Who said anything about games and one-night stands? I'm tired of waiting, baby." He ran his fingers through her hair. Vanilla shampoo and a musk uniquely Tara teased his nose.
A soft cry of distress left her throat, but she pressed against him, trembling.
"You'd better decide now, honey. I'm not letting you go this time."
Tara's pussy clenched. His voice, that growl. She shivered. He could turn her hotter than hell in less than two point two seconds. Her slick heat dampened her panties and she whimpered. Yes, she wanted this. Was she just fooling herself in believing she'd be able to walk away?
"Make damn sure, honey. I have to hear the words."
"I'm sure, Riley. Please."

They won’t kill me. I know too much. Those thoughts did little to ease her fears, but she knew it wouldn’t matter anyway. Show or die. Easy decision, really.
The throb and pulse of Abandon’s dance floor beat a counter rhythm to Elena’s thudding heart. She skirted the fringes of the crowd, trying to weave through the bodies without attracting too much attention. Drawing deep on her reserves and adding energy to reinforce her inner shields, she avoided the lustful onslaught of hormones. Even with the skintight pantsuit she was wearing, it shouldn’t be much of a problem. Most of the dancers wore far less. She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. Why the hell did I wear my hair down?
Within moments a hand grasped her elbow. She glanced up and gasped at the gorgeous specimen who’d touched her. Eyes dark as onyx reflected the changing flashes of light throughout the club. Thick eyelashes framed them in perfect symmetry, making her fingers itch to sketch them. Sharp cheekbones were accented by shadows, reminding her of a Greek statue. The dark silk of his hair was held in place by a leather thong. Like always.
“Angels don’t usually grace me with their presence. To what do I owe this honor?” The deeply masculine voice rumbled across her skin like a caress.
Waves of lust stroked her, teased her nipples to aching tips thrusting against the black denim. She shivered against the heavy power in his touch. Demon power. The raw sensual heat of a demon of lust.
“I’m no angel.” Her throat was husky with suppressed longing. Desperately, she concentrated on rebuilding the shambles of her empathy shield.
His full sensual lips lifted in a half smile. He brought her hand to those fascinating lips and brushed them against her open palm. Little shots of electricity shot from her hand to her core, stroking her pussy from within. She bit back a moan at his tender ministration. Control. She had to maintain control. His hungry gaze sizzled her from head to toe. He had a way of making her very aware of every single curve.
She cleared her throat. “You have something I need.”
“I appreciate your candor, Elena. Would you like to retire to my office?” He gestured toward the upper balcony.
She nodded, not trusting her voice to form further coherent words. Somewhere in the back of her mind she knew this was life and death, but her libido, at the moment, was in heaven. Don’t forget why you’re here, Elena. There are worse things than death. She flinched in memory of the cloaked man’s words.
She pulled her hand from his with an apologetic smile. “Please, after you.” She gestured and did her best to keep from rubbing her hand against her thigh. It still tingled where his lips had touched her.
He led her to his executive elevator. Two men, more like tree trunks with arms, blocked the path of any others who would dare enter. From their lack of expressions to the tangy flavor of their cologne, she couldn’t tell them apart. At 5'6" she only came to their shoulders, but even at close range they exuded no emotion.
They stepped into the elevator and she couldn’t help but comment. “It’s rare to see twins working as bouncers.”
The demon smiled and his eyes glowed. “They owed me a debt.”
Elena swallowed and tore her gaze away from his disturbing presence. “Debts are serious things.”
Within the confines of the box, the rich scent of his body surrounded her, infiltrated her senses, and teased her with a promise.
“Yes, they are.” His voice rumbled with amusement. Drake’s heavy gaze was unnerving. “You should wear your hair down more often, Elena. The chestnut color is striking.”
Heat flushed her cheeks at the compliment. To her immense relief, the elevator chimed their arrival.
He gestured and she left the elevator. Her heels sank into the plush carpet -- blood red and a perfect match to her demon host. She peeked at him from beneath her lashes. An elegant profile and lost in thought. For just a moment she wondered what he was thinking.
His obsidian eyes flicked to meet her gaze. For several long seconds she held her breath at the intense sexual longing she felt from him. Her pussy clenched in desperate urgency, slicking her panties with her need. Empathy’s curse.
She needed a distraction. Ornate doors drew her interest. Wrought iron edging with wooden carvings in the panels. She reached the doors and stared. Women and men writhed in sexual abandon. Each tiny body an embodiment of lust. She fisted her hands to keep from tracing a particularly intricate one. Is that even physically possible?
“I assure you it is,” he whispered in her ear.

The stiff pale fur of a shyrah's pelt covered the sleek ebony body of High Elder Shon like a cloak. Kaia smiled at the newcomer with a wary regard, wondering what one of his race was doing so far from his icy home world, and how Jake got him on a Paradise Run cruise liner, no less.
"Straighten up, Kaia." The quiet growl through her earpiece jerked her to attention. "He is an important dignitary."
"Like you care about that, Jake." She stared at the com-link in front of her, looking for some mention of importance in his history. The docket stated his name, planet of origin, and title, but she'd imagined someone older with the title of High Elder. Less… delicious.
Her gaze tracked across the well-defined muscles of his arms, leaving an edge of feral lust spiking through her body. The furs he wore gave her little indication of his lower body's attributes, and that was a shame. She wondered whether her race was compatible with his.
Thinking about sex already? She was insatiable at the best of times. "We need to finish this job quickly."
"Why? Miss your escapades back at 'Port?"
"I have a sex drive, so sue me." Kaia regarded the High Elder again. He could be something completely alien to her species. Disappointment at that thought set the hairs on the back of her neck on edge. Their very masculine subject was stalking up the platform as they spoke, all fluid grace and predator at once. She never understood the need to keep your sexuality in check, but for a taste of this one, she might just try.
"Useless fact number twelve."
Kaia rolled her eyes. He was always spouting useless information during their jobs.
"He's a panthera splice from old Earth. His requests were simple. A public place, an easy exchange, and he wanted someone of his genus origin to make arrangements."
Kaia's tail stiffened in shock. That information wasn't quite so useless, especially since that would make them compatible. "Are you serious?"
"Your tail, Kaia! We need to keep a low profile, and you're the only one with a tail waving around."
"I'm also the only one with a tail, dimbulb."
"What?"
"Nothing, Jake. Just keep your virtual eyes open." Her tail flicked again. She winced and tried to calm it down, but it twitched in agitation, getting worse. In desperation she started running numbers in her head until her emotions were replaced with ones and zeroes.
"He's almost to you."
Two of the genus panthera splices, descendants of Earth's genetic splices with great cats. On Adana at once. She needed to be inside and away from prying eyes. A close inspection of her ID would show its forgery, and she couldn't waste time in the brig. She wasn't a Paradise Run cruise liner employee, after all.
High Elder Shon gave her a predatory smile with what appeared to be interest. Only the slightest hint of his fangs showed, but holy frek, was it enough. Her pulse jumped.
Feral heat slid through her veins, and she couldn't quite stop a purr from rumbling her chest. His eyes darkened to unfathomable amber liquid.
Her pussy tingled. Surely… her tail swished in the air, giving away her interest in the Elder. Jake's curses through her earpiece were for her ears only, but they still burned. She couldn't hide the blush that stained her cheeks, and kept her hands tightly clasped around the com-link to avoid grabbing her tail.
Elder Shon's amber eyes tracked her tail's movement. Fire slid along her suddenly too tight skin.
She cleared her throat. "Elder Shon, welcome to the final leg of your journey. We hope you enjoyed your stay on 'Port Adana. Your suite accommodations are ready. I hope you enjoy the outer rim Paradise cruise."
"You have a lovely tail." The heavy burr of his voice was laced with a thick accent, one that had her tailbone itching for a scratch.
Kaia froze and coughed out a thank you. She ignored her tail's response, willing her body to fall through the cracks in embarrassment.
"The beauty of a tail is a rarity where I come from. And yours truly is exquisite."
Kaia's nipples hardened under the silk of her tunic. Complimenting her tail was something that made her very shy.
His gaze never left her face, but she had little doubt he noticed every centimeter of her body, from the curve of her hip to the glint of her claws.

Dimly, I heard a swishing and then a perky voice said, “Welcome to Cravings, where we satisfy. Did you say something about five hundred pens? We don’t have those kinds of molds here, but I do have an order of…” The voice paused. I’m guessing this was when she noticed me bent over in agony. “Heavens, are you all right? Should I call a mediflitter?” Alarm froze her features as she looked at the disarray of platters. “Was it the samples?”
Her soft Earth-accented voice washed over me, negating the pain. Cautiously, stiff from the suffering, I eased into an upright position, tearing eyes locking on -- Oh, Adrona singing! -- my mate!
I shook my head, still unable to speak.
It hadn’t been the scent of chocolate doubling me over. It was inhaling the pheromones of my biological and spiritual match. The pain had been my body realigning itself, coming into synchronous alignment with the one female destined to complete me. And I, her. Shocked, mouth agape, I stared at a vision of… Humanness. Not exactly what I’d been raised to expect, yet I found her differences enticing.
Short compared to me, lushly curved and brown all over -- not a color naturally occurring among my people, her brown hair was a shiny nimbus of soft curls about her dark face. Lively deep brown eyes sat above a flaring nose and thick lips shining a deep, sleek brown. Brother of Winds, I wanted to bite that lower, pouty cushion, sink my forefangs right into it. And… ah, her breasts!
She probably thought them primly hidden beneath her blouse, but my visual range encompasses the infrared, and the full rounded bounty of flesh, the two meaty little nipples standing so sweetly at attention were fully visible to me. I wanted to eat her up.

Dark, sinful, and probably batting for the other team. Donna eyed the sexy curve of Jack’s ass in his tight-fitting jeans with hunger bordering on obsession. Or stalking, a voice in the back of her head interjected. Each step up the stairs enhanced her fantasy of running her fingernails over his well-sculpted body until…
She sighed and shifted the load in her arms, easing an awkward hold on her belated Christmas presents. To herself. They were supposed to be under the tree long before Christmas Eve, but it’s hard to convince yourself to buy something for a little self-love over the holidays. She’d gone all out for the occasion, got waxed a couple of days ago, got a manicure, a pedicure. All in preparation for buying the Mighty Mo, platinum edition. A sex toy that, according to the package, could do everything she ever wanted a man to do. Except cuddle or talk. She sighed again. The pity party was getting old.
Jack’s ass was far more interesting. She openly admired his efficient movements, wishing for something with a little more meat for her self-pleasure party, but sex with a stranger and the holiday season was usually a recipe for disaster.
Jack swung around suddenly as though to go back down the stairs. Donna tried to move out of the way, but her packages knocked her off balance. She waved her arms, tossing the packages around like a drunk juggler. He dropped his and pulled her into his arms. They fell against the steps and she sprawled against his finely muscled chest.
Donna cleared her throat and mumbled an apology.
“Are you okay?”
She probably shouldn’t notice the way his chest rumbled when he spoke or the strength of his thighs under her hands.
“Yes, I’m” -- she paused and shook her head, trying to clear the mud from her thoughts -- “fine.” She pushed off his chest and looked everywhere but at him. “What about you? I must have crushed you.”
His laughter sent warmth throughout her entire body. “It takes far more than a little tumble to leave me hurting.”
Donna couldn’t quite stop the mental snort at his words. Of course she was probably the only one thinking about sex all the time. “I think our Christmas presents might not have fared so well.”
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yes.” She scrambled up, trying desperately to look enticing and knowing she failed miserably. “I need to find my presents.”
“Okay, we’ll look. Mine are scattered as well.” He started down the stairs. “What do yours look like?”
Donna choked in embarrassment. What was she going to say? Seven inches of ridged silicone? Please don’t let him find my Mighty Mo. At least it was wrapped.

A loud banging echoed from below the window. Alaya slammed the book shut, and shivered at the sudden cool breeze. She wiped the sweat off her brow and set the book on the dusty sheet next to the old trunk.
Another round of hard rapping below had her scrambling out of her comfortable spot. She shoved off the floor and raced down the stairs, brushing her soaked bangs off her forehead with an impatient swipe.
“I’m coming!” You wish. Alaya ignored the jibe from the back of her mind. She jumped the last two steps and jogged to the front door. With an impatient tug on the lock, she pulled the old oak door open, wincing at the heavy creak. Those hinges really needed to be oiled.
“Can I help you?” The question died on her lips when she caught sight of her visitor. A vision of leather and lust greeted her at the door. He stood at an angle, the flow of his body at odds with the tension radiating from his shoulders. Ash-colored hair flowed down Mr. Dark and Dangerous’s back, coming to rest on the curve of his ass. He easily topped her by a good foot or so. He turned to her with a killer smile and a dimple.
“Alaya Bellemore?” The soft-spoken question had her leaning closer to hear him. He pursed his lips and took a slow inhalation.
She watched a dark emotion cross his perfectly formed face before it smoothed to calm once more.
Alaya cleared her throat and tried to slow her racing heart. “Yes, that’s me.”
He nodded and lowered his sunglasses. Ice blue eyes beckoned. She glanced behind him and noticed a sweet motorcycle parked in the driveway.
Get a grip, girl! Her mind whirled.
“Can I help you?”
Lines crinkled his eyes as a soft smile teased his lips. “I hope so.”
Alaya wondered why anyone would be looking for her at this house. Her mother’s house. “I’m sorry; are you sure you’re looking for me?”
“Can I see some form of identification? I have a delivery here for Alaya Bellemore and I have to make sure you” -- his smile turned predatory -- “are the intended party.”
Without taking her eyes off the tall and handsome delivery man, Alaya pulled open the drawer of the entryway stand. She pulled out her license with fumbling fingers and handed it to him. “I don’t have to tell you that you look nothing like any delivery boy in my neighborhood.”
With a quick glance and a smile, he gave it back to her. She slipped it into her back pocket. He reached inside his leather jacket and pulled out an odd-sized envelope.
Its wrapper was an iridescent blue. The large square seemed packed full of something, sort of like an invitation. He held it toward her. Alaya Bellemore was elegantly penned across the front.
“Touch the envelope please, Alaya.” He held it with bare hands, so she knew it wasn’t dangerous. Maybe.
She took a soft breath and tentatively brushed her index finger against it. A sudden violent sneeze erupted, squeezing her eyes shut and forcing her to cover her mouth. “Excuse me.”
“Of course, Mistress.”
She opened her eyes and blinked. The envelope was now a rich burgundy.
“How did you do that?” She took the envelope from him and turned it over, wondering if he’d slipped a different one to her. Her name was now a shining silver, almost glowing against the envelope’s dark paper.
He stared at her, his eyes shimmering. For a moment, pity darkened his lovely face. “You’ve been confirmed. All instructions will be in the envelope. See you soon, Alaya.”

“Put me down, Cody Duncan!” Maria’s throat closed on the end of the shriek, sending her body into coughing spasms. Cody shifted his hold and she gasped. This whole carrying me off thing is ridiculous. I can fuck whomever I want to, dammit. I’m a grown woman! A hand smacked her ass and she jerked against the hard shoulder digging into her ample stomach. Pleasure spiked through her body. Her brain spun but whether it was from the alcohol or staring at the grabbable curve of Cody’s ass, she wasn’t sure. Watching the ground from above while Cody’s long stride ate up the pathway was definitely not helping.
One thing she did know, however, no man should look that good in tight-fittin’ jeans. She gasped again on a particularly jarring step. The bastard’s hand caressed her ass almost in an apology, but she tamped down her libido’s flaring response. Stupid vaquero thinks he can toss me around like a sack of potatoes? He’s got another think coming. She twisted the ropes trapping her wrists behind her back. The friction burned her skin and she winced.
“You had this comin’, darlin’.” The slow drawl of Cody’s deep voice did strange things to her stomach.
She squeaked her protest. “What? How?” Good lord, her mind spun with another jarring step. Weren’t they at the house yet?
He chuckled and wrapped his arms tighter around her legs. “I’ll get back to that question later, sweetheart. Right now I want to know what the hell you were thinking.” He ducked under the entryway.
“Me?” She shimmied against his shoulder. “I’m not the one kidnapping people here, buddy.” The soft glow of lamplight spilled over the warm tones of Cody’s furniture. Pain twisted her stomach when she realized this living room was no longer hers. Nothing of her father’s legacy remained. True, they still owned the farm, but giving up the main house to a virtual stranger? A year later and it still hurt like hell.
“No.” He dropped his shoulder and she fell away from him. Her cry of shock had barely left her lips before he had her shoved, none too gently, into the warm embrace of his couch. “You’ve been home, what? Three months? You’re all your dad talks about. His responsible Maria.”
She glared at him, refusing to speak.
He ran a hand through his hair in obvious frustration. “You are out of control, darlin’, and I would give anything to punch that bastard out in South Carolina for you, but I can’t.”
“What the hell does that have to do with anything?” Any mention, even in passing, of her ex twisted her gut in anxiety. He was probably fucking some new stick of a chick in the ’burbs of Charleston. She sank into the cushions and tossed the long mane of her hair out of the way. Anger rose to the surface, simmering her already frayed nerves. This was Cody’s fault. “All I wanted was to have a good time, you jerk.” How dare he toss her around? You didn’t do something like that to a woman of her size. Most couldn’t. He’s very strong, her libido purred from the back of her mind. She ignored the fuzzy voice of temptation.
“No, what you wanted was to show your ass.”
She narrowed her eyes at him. “I’ll show you my ass. My past is none of your business.”
He leaned close and glared right back. “Oh yes it is, darlin’, far more than you know.”
“You may run my farm, my legacy, but you don’t run me.” She raised her chin in fury.
He laughed and crossed his arms, resting that fine ass against the coffee table. “No man in his right mind would ever try and run you, gorgeous.”
They stared at each other until tingling in her fingers signaled loss of blood flow from the twisting of the ropes. “Now what?”
