Tasty Tuesday: Brandon's Apple Pie

It's apple picking season and what could be better for kicking off fall than an apple pie. Brandon and Seth from Paws on Me like apple pie. They even like to eat it in non-traditional ways ;)

Here's the recipe for Brandon's apple pie.....

Crust for a 2 crust pie
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 pinch baking powder
8T cold butter cut into small pieces
2T shortening
8-9T ice water with a few drops of lemon juice added
Mix dry ingredients. Cut in butter and shortening. Do not overmix. Add water and mix with a fork. Turn out on a cutting board or other hard surface. Split in half and form into two flattened disks. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours or up to 2 days.

Filling
See Brandon's favorite filling recipe here.

Bake 15 minutes at 425F and then 30-45 minutes at 350F.

To find out how to use an apple pie to spice up your life, read Paws on Me.

Sexy Soundtracks to Your Favorite Fiction

Some authors like to include a soundtrack or playlist with their fiction, which I really enjoy. Music is a huge part of life for many of us, and it's fun to think about what might have been playing either during a scene, or in an author's head to inspire a scene.

Whether it's "You and Me" by Lifehouse, "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones, or "Magic Man" by Heart, chances are there's something sexy that would fit your story. I know that Dave Matthews Band's gorgeous song "Crash Into Me" came to mind when I read Cheryl Dragon's Four Guys and a Witch.

In November, my first Razor's Edge Press book, Nobody Rides for Free, will be released. I can hear "Low Rider" playing as Sinn, a faery worthy of her name, takes a little trip with her three new biker friends. Of course, later in the book, you might replace that song with ELO's "Evil Woman"...

What songs have come to mind when you read your favorite novels? Post a playlist for your favorite Changeling books or create one for a story you're working on.

Shifters and other paranormals

Hey y'all!
I write a lot of shifters. Really. From my Mixed Breeds series back to Mystic U and all, you can see I like wolves, cats, foxes and bears. Lots of fun stuff.
I'm finishing up Mixed Breeds 2 right now, and that one has a bear, a cougar and a wolf. Yum.

But sometimes I like to take a break and write something else. That's where Keeping Score comes in. Book one was about Rhys and Noah, two hunky demon hunters. They rocked my socks, and I hope they will yours, too.

There's one-upmanshhip, teasing, hot sex, and a Cajun grandpa.
Two Down oomes out in November, and it's book 2 of Keeping Score. It's fun. Spanky. Funny. It has a demon hunter and a blind mage. I hope y'all will take a break with me and check out the Keeping Score series!

Red Dog Saloon, Juneau, Alaska

Three Wild Cards, my western paranormal ménage releasing tomorrow, is set in a wild west saloon. I’m a fan of the old Westerns so when I wrote this story, I had a specific saloon in mind.

(Note: I don't know the folks standing in front of the saloon so I blurred their faces)

A few weeks ago, I visited the Red Dog Saloon in Juneau, Alaska. THIS is my saloon! It has the swinging doors, the sawdust-covered floors, the tables which might have been similar to the card tables Cage and Big John played at, and it even had Wyatt Earp’s gun framed above the long polished bar.

I imagined the cowboys drinking and the dancing girls performing. I smelled beer and leather and man, heard the hum of conversation, felt the sawdust under my shoes. I thought of how scared Annie must have been walking into the noisy establishment, knowing her pa had bet and would likely lose her to one of the gamblers sitting at the card table.

It isn’t often that I get to visit the site of one of my stories but I felt I had when I visited the Red Dog Saloon.

Blurb:
Annie's pa loses her in a game of cards, forcing Annie to honor his careless wager by using her body to sexually pleasure the winning male.

Saloon owners Cage and Big John share everything equally, including their winnings. Annie is no exception -- the little human female softens their rough love play and completes their threesome.

By winning Annie, the big bear and wild wolf gain their long-awaited mate. To keep her permanently in their big bed, they must convince their wary female to bet on forever.

The Plausibility Factor by Anne Kane

The Plausibility Factor

Dragons. Imperial Were-Panthers. Stargazers. Sex Demons and shifters of every description. Reality is greatly over-rated.

I love to visit the imaginary worlds that exist only in my mind. Writing fantasy and science fiction requires a great deal of attention to detail. Even though nothing I write actually exists, I have to make the premise plausible. People have to be able to believe that the worlds I create could exist, and that’s why writing these stories is so much fun.

When I started the Imperial Were-Panther series, I knew that I wanted to create a line of cat shifters. I used panthers because I love the sleek, dangerous look of them and thought they’d make wonderful heroes. Then, I needed a reason for them to exist, a job if you will. Since they were going to be heroes, they needed a heroic job. After a great deal of thought, I made them guardians of the Imperial Throne, who had given up their privileged position and decimated their own species in a valiant effort to save humanity. I had a lot of fun writing those books, and there are several more on my to-do list.

The Stargazers weren’t entirely a figment of my imagination. The ancient legends of witches who could feel the earth’s ley lines, harnessing the power of the Earth for their own purposes inspired this series. The twist is that the Stargazers can see the lines of power between the heavenly bodies. That was the big picture, but I needed to add all the little details, such as how they physically managed to do that, and the side effects of their talent. There needed to be pros and cons to being a Stargazer, as there is with everything in life.

I’ve written other stories featuring creatures that you aren’t likely to meet in your day-to-day travels, and each one had its own unique challenges. It’s the little things that make science fiction and fantasy plausible to the readers and more fun for the writers.

So how about you? Do you like your stories to be firmly based in reality, or do you enjoy reading about werewolves, Imperial were-panthers and creatures of fantasy?

Creek Street, Ketchikan, Alaska

Creek Street was the site of Ketchikan's early red light district. There were multiple 'cat houses' because Under Territorial Alaska law, more than two female boarders in the same building constituted a house of prostitution. The women would either live in pairs or alone, the exception being the Star Dance Hall (which paid larger "protection" payments).

The single men would brazenly swagger across the bridge.

However the married men or the men who wanted to hide their activities would take a more secluded winding path.

This path was known as Married Man's Trail.

Keeping up with Keeping Score

Hey, y'all!

Just got through edits on the second Keeping Score book (m/m, demon hunters) and my wonderful editor says November for the release date! I'm so tickled, y'all!

Did you read Keeping Score: One Up? If you did, book two will feature Janus, who Rhys and Noah both have great fondness for in book one. He's the head trainer of the demon hunter set, and he's been around. He's been sent to retrieve a valuable asset of the demon hunter world, and he's not happy about it. Of, course, he's even less happy when he finds not an artifact, but a person. His ex-lover, Cillian.

Haven't read book one? It's about Rhys, who thinks demon-hunters should work alone. Too bad Noah didn't get the memo.

You can get that one here!

In the meantime, since I don't want to post an unproofed excerpt (I am the queen of mixing up "s" and "d" on my keyboard), have a top ten list.

Top ten reasons demon hunting is Noah's favorite job ever

10. you get to meet such interesting demons

9. Dental insurance from the union

8. who needs pets when you have shifters to chase?

7. knee-high boots. who else gets to wear them besides motorcycle cops and Jedi?

6. life is like a Scooby-Doo episode. How cool is that?

5. Hunters get to yell things like, "Hey, you scum-sucking bottom feeder" and it's not really an insult

4. Long coats are dashing

3. Leather. Pants.

2. Hunters get all the cool weapons

1. Hooking up with another hunter, who just happens to be a stud

And now some eye candy. How about my idea of a pretty young hunter?

Woo hoo. Thanks for reading y'all

Adult Excerpt:

"That's sweet, but we still don't know why I'm the woman who can set you free. And speaking of which, let's get to it. Masato is getting serious. We need to get you out of that room before he brings in the priest."
"Duck down."
Lulu took a breath and slipped below the water. She felt the shift this time when Hotsuma moved her from the hot springs to the pool room. She needed to ask how he could do that. Then again, it didn't really matter. She was just happy he could. It saved her from trying to sneak down the hidden hallway.
She surfaced in the middle of the pool and looked around. Nothing had changed. Masato might suspect something, but he hadn't done more than summon a priest. She hoped that was all he did.
"Are you ready?" Hotsuma hugged her waist, bringing her ass up against his arousal.
"You certainly are." She giggled when he kissed her neck.
"The ladies in the hot spring were very… invigorating."
"You could act a little embarrassed."
"I could but I would be lying. Just like I would be lying if I said I only wanted you here to break the wards." He slipped one hand down her stomach and between her lower lips.
The feel of his fingers passing over her clit made Lulu bite her lip to keep from moaning. She let her head fall back onto Hotsuma's shoulder. "We haven't started yet."
"You haven't started yet. I see no reason to wait."
"Hotsuma, the barrier." Her feeble attempt at arguing lost to the pleasure spreading through her body.
Water pushed at her breasts as Hotsuma guided her to the edge of the pool. "There." He strummed her clit.
"Oh, yes. Right there."
"I meant the ward, Lulu."
She touched the edge of the pool and barely registered the shock of the ward breaking. Hotsuma rewarded her by moving his fingers faster. She rocked her hips against his touch, which also rubbed her ass cheeks over his hard dick.
"So good," he whispered as he slid his fingers lower and dipped two into her hole. "So tight."
Her breath came out in huffs. His fingers rubbed her inside, bringing her close to an orgasm. Was it the spell's side effects making her this hot or Hotsuma? He massaged one of her breasts with his free hand and she stopped caring.
"Next."
