The excitement of coming soon

As an author, there's this amazing feeling when you wrap up a book and send it off to your publisher. Oh, it may not be the cigarette and Dom Perignon, a la Paul Sheldon in Stephen King's Misery, but the satisfaction is very real, whether it's a novel or a short story.

Tasty Tuesdays: Passionate Fruit Pizza by Anne Kane

Ingredients:

2 cups flour
1 Tablespoon baking powder
½ cup cold butter – cubed
¾ cup cold milk
available fresh fruit – strawberries, peaches, blueberries, plums, pears or whatever you can find. Canned pears work really well too.
2 tablespoons sugar or to taste
several dabs of jam – any flavour

Directions

Mix dry ingredients together with a pastry blender or in a food processor until pea sized chunks are formed

Add milk and mix until it just holds together

Spread a sheet of plastic wrap out on a cookie pan and put ball of dough on it

Chill for ten to fifteen minutes

Preheat oven to 450 degrees

Roll out dough to ½ inch thick in any shape you want. I like to make it oblong to fit on the cookie sheet.

Dab with butter. Slice fruit to approximately a quarter inch thick and spread out on top of dough.

Sprinkle with sugar, and dab jam hither and yon. It will melt to form a glaze.

Bake at 450 degrees for 20 minutes. Serve warm with whipped cream or yogurt.

Tasty Tuesday- Gluten Free Patty Melts

Hey y'all! Guess what I'm having for supper tonight?

Serves 4

4 hamburger patties, or 1lb hamburger meat split into 4 patties (if you can afford it, go grass fed)

8 slices Udi's Gluten Free whole grain bread

1 large sweet onion (Vidalia or 1013 work great)

4 slices provolone cheese (Swiss is also good)

2 tbsp butter

Instructions

Slice onion in half through middle, then turn each half flat side down on board and cut half-moon shaped slices, thin as you can get them. Heat large skillet to medium-high, add a few thin slices of butter and a drizzle of olive oil. Cook onions for 5 minutes on medium-high without burning, then turn heat down to medium or slightly less, and continue to cook onions, stirring occasionally, until onions reach a deep, caramel color.

Set onions aside to cool, and grill or pan-fry your hamburgers to doneness of choice. I like a nice medium burger.

While hamburgers cook, toast bread. Gluten free bread requires toasting to hold up to the sandwich. Use the rest of the butter to butter one side of each piece of toast. Chop cooked onions into bite-sized pieces.

Melt cheese on top of hamburgers as they cook the last minute. Then assemble patty melts with two slices of bread, butter on the outside, patties, onions and cheese on the inside. Grill or pan fry each sandwich for 30-60 seconds to brown butter on outside of bread.

Serve hot.

Now off to make supper!

Tasty Tuesdays: Low Carb Breakfast Muffins

Welcome to Tasty Tuesdays, where Changeling authors share their favorite specialty recipes.

From Shelby's Kitchen:
Low Carb Cinnamon Flax Seed Breakfast Muffins

Five minutes prep time

25 to 35 minutes bake time

Net Carbs app 1 per muffin (Based on a 6 well large breakfast muffin tin)

Ingredients

1 cup golden flax meal (zero net carbs)

1/2 cup almond meal (6 net carbs)

1/2 cup flax seeds (zero net carbs)

1/2 cup splenda (zero net carbs)

2 tbsp cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional, for a spicier muffin)

1 tbsp baking powder

pinch salt

1 cup unsweetened almond milk (1 net carb)

4 large eggs (zero net carbs)

Preheat oven to 350º

Generously grease a large muffin tin with olive oil or butter.

Mix dry ingredients with a large spoon or whisk. Make a well in the middle and pour in the almond milk, then add the eggs. Stir thoroughly. Batter should not be lumpy or have dry spots. Unlike wheat flour, you won't need to use a blender to get the batter relatively smooth. Batter will have a slightly gelatinous texture. Spoon batter into muffin tin. Muffin wells should end up about 2/3 rds full.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes at 350º for a 6 muffin tin; about 25 minutes for a mini-muffin/cupcake tin.

Note that the flax meal will absorb the milk and make the batter very stiff if you let it stand in the fridge, so I don't recommend making this up ahead of time.

Tasty Tuesday: Brandon's Apple Pie

It's apple picking season and what could be better for kicking off fall than an apple pie. Brandon and Seth from Paws on Me like apple pie. They even like to eat it in non-traditional ways

Here's the recipe for Brandon's apple pie.....

Crust for a 2 crust pie
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 pinch baking powder
8T cold butter cut into small pieces
2T shortening
8-9T ice water with a few drops of lemon juice added
Mix dry ingredients. Cut in butter and shortening. Do not overmix. Add water and mix with a fork. Turn out on a cutting board or other hard surface. Split in half and form into two flattened disks. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours or up to 2 days.

Bake 15 minutes at 425F and then 30-45 minutes at 350F.

Sexy Soundtracks to Your Favorite Fiction

Some authors like to include a soundtrack or playlist with their fiction, which I really enjoy. Music is a huge part of life for many of us, and it's fun to think about what might have been playing either during a scene, or in an author's head to inspire a scene.

Whether it's "You and Me" by Lifehouse, "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones, or "Magic Man" by Heart, chances are there's something sexy that would fit your story. I know that Dave Matthews Band's gorgeous song "Crash Into Me" came to mind when I read Cheryl Dragon's Four Guys and a Witch.

In November, my first Razor's Edge Press book, Nobody Rides for Free, will be released. I can hear "Low Rider" playing as Sinn, a faery worthy of her name, takes a little trip with her three new biker friends. Of course, later in the book, you might replace that song with ELO's "Evil Woman"...

What songs have come to mind when you read your favorite novels? Post a playlist for your favorite Changeling books or create one for a story you're working on.

Shifters and other paranormals

Hey y'all!
I write a lot of shifters. Really. From my Mixed Breeds series back to Mystic U and all, you can see I like wolves, cats, foxes and bears. Lots of fun stuff.
I'm finishing up Mixed Breeds 2 right now, and that one has a bear, a cougar and a wolf. Yum.

But sometimes I like to take a break and write something else. That's where Keeping Score comes in. Book one was about Rhys and Noah, two hunky demon hunters. They rocked my socks, and I hope they will yours, too.

There's one-upmanshhip, teasing, hot sex, and a Cajun grandpa.
