The Saturday Book Diver Interviews Captain Carter Therres from the Coriolis Series by Mychael Black

Good morning and welcome to the Saturday Book Diver!

Today I’m pleased and honored to interview Captain Carter Therres, the man in charge of the military recon vessel called the Coriolis.

At the moment I’m standing in the captain’s cabin, a room that reflects the personality of its occupant. The lower half of the room has a large bed and a sitting area with a table, a chair and a small couch. In the upper half of the room stands a metal desk with a computer terminal and a chair. The room has a crisp, businesslike atmosphere, but according to rumor in the fictional world, more than rest and planning military strategy goes on here.

Although Captain Therres is boy-next-door handsome with spiky black hair and a lean, muscular build, his steel gray eyes reveal courage, strength and a stubborn streak that one must possess to make it as a soldier. The Captain is dressed down at the moment, wearing dark pants and a T-shirt that says “Local Marines.”

He offers me a handshake, invites me to sit, then waits for me to get down to business.

SBD: Captain, I know you’re a busy man, so thank you for taking the time to do this interview. How long have you been Captain of the Coriolis?

CT: Thank you as well. As for how long I've had this position...wow. Probably about seven years or so. This was my first command, though I've been in the Local Marines since I was twenty.

SBD: Right now you have Dr. Ash Mracek aboard. I’ve heard you met under dire circumstances. What happened?

CT: Well, as you might have noticed with the heightened security and the need to meet on such an out-of-the-way outpost, things back on Earth--namely with the Syndicate--basically went belly-up. We've discovered some interesting things, Dr. Mracek being one of them. We were sent to rescue him when his scientific research vessel, the Maelstrom, was attacked. I don't know if you've seen a Revenant, but they aren't exactly friendly. Dr. Mracek was the only survivor we found aboard the Maelstrom.

SBD: What three words best describe Dr. Mracek?

CT: Let's see... quiet, gorgeous, brilliant.

While the Captain is talking, Dr. Mracek himself steps into the room. An attractive man with an aristocratic face and light brown hair that he wears braided down his back, the doctor studies us with discerning hazel eyes. He appears keenly interested in what his companion is saying.

As a Book Diver, this is an exciting moment for me. I’m thrilled for the chance to talk to both heroes of Distress Signal during the same trip to their world.

SBD: Dr. Mracek, I’m happy to meet you. Would you answer a few questions as well?

AM: I suppose I could, yes. What would you like to know?

SBD: How do you feel about Captain Therres’ response to the last question and what three words do you think best describe him?

AM: Oh. [He blushes a little.] I think Carter--Captain Therres--may be a bit biased. As for my opinion of him? [He smiles over at the Captain.] Strong, dependable, stunning.

SBD: Captain, do you have anything you’d like to say regarding the doctor’s choice of words to describe you?

CT: [Laughs] Well, the first two? A soldier has to be both, for himself and those who need him. The stunning bit? Given last night, I'm surprised the good Doc didn't come up with something a bit more...colorful.

Dr. Mracek squirms a little in his chair, a slight blush coloring his cheeks.

SBD: Gentlemen, how would you describe your first kiss?

CT: A thing of beauty. The moment I saw Ash drop down out of a maintenance shaft on the Maelstrom, I had to have him. The first kiss happened once we got onboard the Coriolis. He'd just stepped out of the shower in nothing but a towel. How could I resist?

AM: Yes, well, at least it didn't shock you. Do you have any idea how long it had been since I even touched another human being? Much less another man? Not that I'm complaining, mind you...

SBD: Even though we seem pretty safe right now, I know that danger surrounds you. How do you cope?

CT: [Shrugs.] The best we can, really. We stay focused on keeping ourselves and our allies in one piece, while trying to sort out the details behind the coup. During downtime, though, I don't think I could make it without Ash.

AM: I don't know about that, Captain. You did just fine without me before we met.

CT: Maybe, but now I have a lot more to live for.

AM: [Smiles] Likewise.

The affection these men have for each other is obvious and beautiful to see.

SBD: It’s almost time for me to leave, but before I go, would you share one of your favorite excerpts from Distress Signal?

Excerpt:

“Fuck, what did this doc do to piss off the Revenants?”

“Long story,” Carter said. He stood and surveyed the room. “Escape pods, though none have been fired. Fan out. We need to find --”

A soft thump high on the wall drew Carter’s attention to a grated cover. “Maintenance,” he muttered. He motioned for his men to watch the doorway. Then he approached the maintenance shaft.

“I’m Captain Therres, Local Marines.” When he didn’t get an answer, Carter continued. “We’re here on behalf of the Syndicate.”

Another bump sounded a little louder, and a face appeared behind the grate. Carter couldn’t make out the features, though it was definitely a man. A moment later, the grate wiggled and swung open. A slim man with a long, light brown braid and wire-rimmed glasses dropped to the floor with surprising grace.

“We’re looking for Dr. Mracek,” Carter said. “Look, I know you’re scared --”

“Scared?” The man whirled around, and Carter barely managed to keep his jaw from hitting the floor. Scientists weren’t supposed to be sexy. Were they? “Scared? My entire staff is dead! Revenants are tearing apart my station! Buddy, scared doesn’t begin to touch it!”

“Hey!” Carter grabbed the man’s shoulders, realizing -- belatedly -- that the man was armed. An arc pistol pressed to Carter’s stomach. He glanced down, then back up into wild hazel eyes behind those glasses. “I’m not the enemy.”

“I’ve had more than my share of humans as enemies.”

Recognition clicked in Carter’s brain. “Dr. Mracek?”

The man -- the professor -- nodded, the motion jerky.

“We’re here to rescue you. Joren sent us.”

The pistol finally left its place near Carter’s gut. “They’re all dead.”

“I know. I’ve got men sweeping the docking bay now. We have to get you out of here.”

“Not without my research.”

Carter bit back a protest. He knew the man’s work was important, but his job was to keep the professor alive -- at any cost. “Where is it?”

“Labs are one deck up. Revenants hit the area, but hopefully I can salvage something.”

Although he didn’t like the idea, Carter grunted and gestured toward the doorway where his men waited on guard. The professor hooked the pistol back onto a slender black belt, and Carter led the way out into the corridor. His men fell into step behind them.

The silence was worse than any noise the Revenants or their victims could possibly make. Gun drawn, Carter flattened himself against a wall when they reached a junction. The others behind him did the same. Lights flickered.

Mracek nodded toward the corridor opposite from where they all stood. Carter gestured his men to the other wall. Then he motioned for Mracek to join them. With the professor safely flanked by two burly Marines, Carter inched closer to the corner. Revenants, while wraith-like, were solid. They could be killed. They also possessed some kind of telepathic link to one another; if one got cornered, the others swarmed.

When no sound came, Carter took a quiet, deep breath, and twisted just enough to glance around the corner. Not a single living soul. Without looking away, he waved Mracek and the Marines down the other end. As soon as they ducked into a recess, Carter hurried toward them. Close quarters had nothing on their current situation. The Marines stood on both sides, and Carter practically pinned the professor to the steel wall.

Dr. Ash Mracek smelled like fear and adrenaline, and beneath it all, pure male. Carter peered down at the man crammed between himself and the wall. Christ, if they’d been anywhere else, he’d have happily given into the bizarre -- almost overwhelming -- need to taste those lips. The professor’s eyes narrowed behind the glasses as they stared up at Carter, like the man knew damn well what Carter was thinking. That glare also made it crystal clear that any such move on Carter’s part would be met with an arc pistol.

This sure leaves me wanting more! I find myself reluctant to leave the company of Carter and Ash. They’re fascinating men and I’d like to get to know them better. If you would like to as well, check out

Bane From "Boon Collector" Offers 10 Reasons to Read His Story

Sara: Okay, Bane. I told you I'd let you share 10 reasons why people should read your story, but you promised to behave. I'll have to cut you off if you start pulling your tricks. Deal?

Bane: Okay, okay! Look, I'm not gonna lie. At the beginning of my story, Tisha seems pretty mousy. A wallflower, if you will. By the time she's had her legs wrapped around me, however... she's a totally different person. She's who she was meant to be, as you'll find out.

I've got 10 good reasons to read my story The Boon Collector. OK, it's Sara Jay's story, but it's about me, so it's mine, too. I'm a demon, and I say so.

10. Tree sex. Intrigued yet? And no, I don't mean in a tree.

9. Sex while falling down into hell. You can't beat that. I would know.

8. Janie Esparza from The Romance Studio says, "The love scenes between Bane and Tisha are melting hot." I don't like to brag, but... yeah, I do, and yeah, they are.

7. Human-demon relationship development. You wish you had it this good.

6. Tisha's sexy tasks to complete in Hell. One includes a very organic flogger and a woman. Another, a woodcutter who doesn't even know she's there. The others, well, I'll let you read about them in the book...

5. Demons have extra appendages. Yeah, I'm talkin' tail.

4. You get to go to Hell without actually going to Hell. That's a pretty sweet deal.

3. Demons aren't always what you think we are. We might surprise you in the end.

2. It's a story about returning to yourself, something I know a lot of humans can relate to. Okay, demons, too.

1. My abs. Need I say more?

The Saturday Book Diver Interviews Kol and Andromeda from Space Marine by Marteeka Karland

Welcome to the Saturday Book Diver! Today I’m talking to Kol and Andromeda from Space Marine. The Book Diver magic has whisked me through their galaxy right into this pleasure bar where Andromeda works.

At the moment I’m sitting here with Kol, a ruggedly handsome man with short, tight dark hair and a deliciously buff body. Though he’s relaxed, sipping his drink, he’s obviously not the kind of guy a sane person wants to mess with. His gaze scans the bar, as if waiting for one of the patrons to cause trouble. Yet no one seems interested in anything except drinking, flirting and fucking. The lights are dim, the air heavy with musk. Couples undulating on the dance floor--and in the darkest corners of the room--keep time with the pulse of the music wafting through the bar.

We’re waiting for Andromeda to join us. I know when she appears not only because of the look on Kol’s face, but because there’s no missing the small, beautiful woman with long, dark hair who seems to glide across the bar.

When she reaches our table, before she can sit, Kol tugs her onto his lap. I can tell this interview will be a pleasure.

SBD: Thank you both for talking to us today. Since you’re both obviously good--uh--friends, how did you meet?

Kol: I beat the crap out of the man trying to buy her services, then I took his place.

Andromeda: [Elbows Kol in the gut. The big Marine winces, but rolls his eyes.] Kol bought time with me. Had I known he’d run off my customer, I’d have shoved him out the nearest airlock.

Kol: [Deadpans his response] She says that with great affection.

I knew these two would be fun!

SBD: I understand Kol is a cyborg. What’s it like having sex with him and do his artificial parts affect lovemaking?

Andromeda: [Sighs happily] Space Marines are all physically enhanced. That part is optional. Though, I’ve never known a Marine who didn’t opt for the extra enhancement. Yeah, he’s big. But, as they say, it’s not the size of the space craft, it’s the motion of the gravitational stabilizers.

Kol: [Gives Andromeda a “you’ve got to be kidding” look, but says nothing.]

SBD: [Chuckles.] Do you two have a favorite toy/game/position?

Andromeda: As long as the end result is me getting off, I could give a rats ass.

Kol: And here I thought you liked the slow and gentle stuff best. I’ll try to keep that in mind from now on.

SBD: Kol, what’s the sexiest thing about Andromeda?

Kol: Everything. But mostly how she’s brave enough to take on a big Marine like me.

SBD: Andromeda, what’s the sexiest thing about Kol?

Andromeda: How he knew what he wanted and wasn’t afraid to do everything he had to to convince me we belonged together.

SBD: That is very sexy! Before the Book Diver magic sends me home, would you share one of your favorite excerpts from Space Marine?

Her marine wrapped his arms around her waist before latching on to one peaked nipple, sucking and nipping. Andromeda slid her hands over his head, his high-and-tight cut abrading her palms as she held him to her. If she lived to be a hundred, she’d never get tired of the feeling of such a large man wrapping himself around her. She loved his strength, the feel of his hard body pressed so tightly against hers.

Rough, strong hands molded every curve of her body. He seemed to crave her body, needing it as much as she needed his. Every time he slid his hands over her skin seemed more desperate than the last. It wasn’t long before his touch bordered on pain, but he never crossed that line into true pain. Andromeda knew she didn’t need to do anything. Just being there, allowing him full access to her body, was enough for him. For now anyway.

He seemed fascinated with her breasts, laving and nipping the peaked nipples until she squirmed. The fleshy globes were more than a handful for most men, but they seemed to fit perfectly into this guy’s palms. The longer he indulged himself, the more aggressive he became, growling and snarling against her chest possessively. Andromeda loved the sounds he made, loved they way he touched her. He was rough, but not so much as to detract from her pleasure.

The little squeals that escaped her lips every now and then only seemed to spur him on. He might have been paying for his own pleasure, but he wasn’t so callous that he wasn’t concerned with hers. Most men could have cared less if she enjoyed herself or not. This one, though, milked her for every single response he could get.

He stayed at her breasts until she arched into him, offering him as much as he desired. Andromeda wasn’t beyond faking her response if that was what was required, but with this man, she didn’t have to. He seemed to know exactly what she needed and gave it to her in spades.

As he moved down her body, urging her legs over his shoulders, Andromeda sighed, losing herself in the wicked things her marine was doing to her. He definitely knew his way around the female body. The undersides of her breasts seemed to be particularly sensitive as he nipped and licked his way over them before moving lower to her belly button. He tugged at the little charm adorning the indenture.

“Ahh!” She couldn’t help it. He was that good. Andromeda was a woman very experienced in the art of pleasure, but he was the one robbing her of her sanity.

Whew! That excerpt is so hot that I need to order a cold drink before saying goodbye to Kol and Andromeda.

Andromeda herself is kind enough to bring me a tall iced tea flavored with exotic fruit.

With the interview over, I step into a back room for privacy, since I’m required to be alone when the Book Diver magic sends me back to my world. I leave Kol and Andromeda kissing at the table. Meeting this exciting couple has left me wanting to know more about them. To find out what happens to Kol and Andromeda, check out

Tasty Tuesday -- Cheese Pennies

Surprise guests can be a joy...and a pain. What to serve guests that make it seem as if you were psychic enough --or brilliant enough-- to know they were coming? This freezer special delights are more savory than stale cookies from a bag.

Cheese Pennies
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, softened
¾ lb Old Cheddar, grated
1 large egg yolk
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon hot mustard powder
¼ teaspoon salt

In a food processor, combine the butter and egg yolk until smooth and creamy. Add the grated cheese and blend well; cheese does not have to be completely incorporated into mixture.
Stir the salt, mustard and flour together until evenly blended.
Add the dry mix to the food processor in one go, clean the sides of the bowl and pulse just until the dough comes together to form a ball. Dough will be very soft; try not to over process or handle too much, as the delicacy of the penny will be compromised.
Ready two sheets of parchment paper. Divide the dough in half, placing each piece on a parchment. Working with one half, gently nudge the dough into a log about an inch to an inch and a half thick, using the parchment paper.
Wrap the log in the parchment and then in plastic wrap: refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours. The logs can be kept up to one week in the fridge or three months in the freezer!

When ready to serve, preheat the oven to 350 F.
Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Remove logs from the refrigerator or freezer and unwrap. Slice into ¼ inch pieces and arrange on lined baking tray. No need to worry about crowding as the pennies don’t expand much. The longer time is for frozen pennies.
Bake until golden, about 10-13 minutes. Makes about 100 pennies.
Serve slightly warm.

The Saturday Book Diver Interviews Egan from Night Sins by B.J. McCall

Good morning! It’s time for another adventure with the Saturday Book Diver. Today we’re returning to the world of the Forever series, where vampires are oppressed, but some have chosen to fight back.

I’m here in a penthouse at Carmichael hotel. It’s the unofficial home of a vampire called Egan. Seated in a plush chair across from the dark-haired, gray-eyed vampire, I glance around at the luxurious room. It’s beautifully furnished. Enormous framed landscapes hang on the walls. Looking at them, one almost forgets the penthouse has no windows.

Focusing on my handsome host, I begin.

SBD: Egan, thank you for agreeing to this interview and also for allowing us into your penthouse. I’ve sworn not to release the information you share to anyone in this world. Only readers on the outside will have access to it.

Egan: I appreciate your discretion. It’s illegal for a vampire to leave the Cemetery. Trusting a stranger isn’t easy for me.

Considering how vampires are treated here, I can understand why he feels like this.

SBD: How long have you been a vampire?

Egan:  Close to three hundred years. I’ve traveled the world and have lived in many places. I wish I could tell you the world is a better place. I can’t.

SBD: It must be especially difficult for you, having been around before the laws restricting vampires’ freedom were established. What can you tell us about life before the global economic collapse that triggered the oppression?

Egan:  We were accepted. We were artists, builders, educators, owned businesses and property. Now we are forced to live in places like the Cemetery, isolated and feared, dependent upon government rations.

Before the oppression, I was a free citizen. I designed and built the Carmichael. All I have now is the illusion of freedom within these walls.

I can’t imagine what life must be like here for vampires and those who love them.

SBD: I know interaction between vampires and humans is illegal, but do you have any human contacts?

Egan: Only a few. Good friends are rare nowadays, but I have a special person in my life.  The government tells you vampires are soulless creatures. Believe me when I tell you, Harper is my one true love.

SBD: What three words best describe Harper?

Egan: Courageous. Provocative. Delectable.

SBD: Do you think there’s a possibility you can have a future together, or is it just too dangerous?

Egan: It’s very dangerous. Harper is a Dead Souls Agent. Our relationship defies government rule and breaks every vampire law. If we’re discovered we’ll pay with our lives. The price of Nights Sins.

It’s terrible to know in this world lovers are kept apart. To risk death, Egan and Harper must have a very strong bond.

SBD: Would you share one of your favorite excerpts from Night Sins?

Egan:

Egan had spotted the DSA vehicle and tracked it to the alley. To his surprise the headlamps were extinguished. From the rooftop, he’d watched Agent Croix exit her vehicle and step into the dark alleyway. Easily visible to Egan, she wasn’t wearing a helmet or weapons belt nor was she carrying a burner.

The agent was up to something.

Unarmed and vulnerable, the agent moved slowly, taking tentative steps deeper into the alley. Was she setting a trap?

Keeping his eyes on Croix, Egan listened for the familiar sound of DSA vehicles but heard nothing. Croix was alone.

Egan’s nose twitched. Her scent, better than any perfume, filled him with desire. More desire than he’d experienced in decades.

Then she did the unthinkable. She pulled a piece of red material out of her jacket pocket and raised it like a matador’s cape and turned around. Her red top was drenched in her sweat and scented with her blood.

Egan smiled. Old ones were rarely challenged and never by humans. He was the bull and Croix had returned for the kill.

Familiar and exotic, her blood scented the air. Egan’s fangs extended, stimulated by desire, hunger and need. Now that he’d sipped from her veins, her blood and his senses were forever linked. If she stood in a group of a hundred humans and Egan was blind, he’d pick her out of the crowd with ease.

She stood in the darkness, a siren drawing him to her. Egan had to admire her courage. Only a fool would stand outside in the dark unarmed in this section of the city. Croix wasn’t a fool. Her weapons were hidden.

He’d best resolve the situation before her blood scent drew others.

Egan crossed the roof and entered a door. Moving fast, he took the stairs to the main floor and made his way to the service entrance. He saw her through the open doorway. His nostrils twitched. Her scent perfumed the air and she smelled so good. “Agent Croix, I’m flattered.”

Her hands stuffed in her jacket pockets, she turned toward him. “You’re under arrest for the illegal taking and consumption of human blood.”

“You came to arrest me,” Egan said, watching her hands. Although he was able to see her clearly, she was at a disadvantage in the darkness and had to follow his voice. He moved closer. “And I thought you’d enjoyed our short encounter.”

She stepped toward him. “Lie face down on the ground.”

“So all that heat was just fear?”

Her hand moved. Egan ducked and lunged forward, grabbing her wrists and taking her down.

A beam of blue light shot out from her hand as they fell to the pavement. Egan shoved her arms out to the side, directing away the light beam that had come within an inch of hitting him. She’d almost gotten him. He covered her body with his. “Is that what you really want?”

Wow! That gives us a taste of the danger and excitement of their world.

The Book Diver Magic is fading and it’s time for me to go. Once again I leave this world uneasy about the treatment of vampires and the danger they and any humans who care about them live in.
